Talked my way out of a parking boot by pretending to be a bank employee

I've been reading here for a bit, and have a story to contribute from about two years ago.

Here in Atlanta, we have an area called East Atlanta Village that has a lot of bars, and a hopping nightlife. What they do lack however is adequate parking.

My fiancé and I drove down one night, and had no luck on finding parking. So in my infinite wisdom, I said we should park in the bank parking lot. She was a customer of said bank at the time, the parking lot says customer parking only. That should be cool, right? I didn't think they actually monitored the lot after hours, but I was wrong on that front.

A few hours later, I step outside for a smoke, and I can see her car across the street with two boots in the driver side wheels. "Oh fuck, she's gonna kill me" I think as I walk inside to give her the bad news. When I broke the news, I told her I'd pay for it cause it's my fuck up, but I have an idea I want to try first to get out of it.

I walk over to her car, and I call the number on the window sticker. "Hey, I'm an IT employee of this bank, and I was working after hours tonight working on some upgrades. I went across the street for some food, and came back to my car booted. This is kind of shitty, can we take care of this?".

To my surprise, the person on the phone starts apologizing. "I'm sorry, that was a mistake. I guess our guy didn't see your parking pass, we'll have someone out in 15 minutes to take them off". Holy shit, my heart starts beating, cause while he's sending someone out, what if they want me to present a parking pass I don't actually have, or prove that I'm an employee?

About 25 minutes later, I'm in the bar consuming PBR #(insert high number here), and I get a call. It's from the guy across the street, "I'm at your car and removing the boots now. I'm terribly sorry for this". I ask him if he needed me to come over or anything, and he said no. I tell him I'm hanging out at the bar for awhile, and he told me that I'm good, I don't have to move the car.

I'm absolutely ecstatic. I can't believe that it worked, but it did. I don't think I'll try testing those waters again, but the "I really don't want to pay this, I wonder if I can bullshit my way out" mindset worked.

If you find yourself with a boot on your car, it might be worth trying. If you hang out in the EAV area of Atlanta, you can probably figure out the bank, and bar in referring to :)
