Acer Nitro 5 RTX 3070 (AN515-45) UnderVolt Benchmarks

Post Body

New owner of Acer Nitro 5 and I've been fiddling around the unit to optimize its Performance and Temperature Levels, so far haven't seen much about the AN515-45 so figured I'd share some UnderVolt Benchmarks I ran for the RTX 3070 using MSI AfterBurner, Unigine Heaven and HWinfo.

Note that the values outside stock in the tests are what I found stable on my system so YMMV.

Here are the constant parameters in this Benchmark:

  • GPU Power Management Mode set to Maximum Performance (everything else is Default in NVIDIA Control Panel)
  • Whisper Mode OFF (Geforce Experience)
  • Battery Boost OFF (Geforce Experience)
  • External Monitor Screen Resolution at 1920x1080 60Hz
  • NitroSense at High Performance Mode (CPU Performance Boost Mode is Disabled)
  • Took a snapshot of HWinfo immediately after Benchmark Result then Reset HWinfo every test and let GPU cool down a bit before Running next Benchmark ( /- 5secs)

Profile 0 = Stock GPU Setting

Stock: Heaven Benchmark HWinfo snapshot after Run

Max Core Frequency at Stock is 1740MHz at .900V. For new folks who will undervolt, this is the number you'll play around when adjusting the Frequency/Voltage Curve in MSI Afterburner of your GPU (this will mostly be different in every GPU).

Profile 1 = .750V

  • Voltage/Frequency Curve: 1515MHz / .750V
  • Memory Clock 500MHz

.750V: Heaven Benchmark HWinfo snapshot after Run

  • Notes:
    • Constant Voltage Utilization of 0.750V throughout the Benchmark
    • Though it's -225MHz below the Stock Core Frequency ( 500MHz in Memory), the results are Constant Core Frequency utilization for this V/F Curve
    • Lowest Max and Average Power utilization

Profile 2 = .800V

  • Voltage/Frequency Curve: 1665MHz / .800V
  • Memory Clock 300MHz

.800V: Heaven Benchmark HWinfo snapshot after Run

  • Notes:
    • Core Voltage is not constant throughout the test.
    • Max Power and Average Utilization is mostly close to Stock values.
    • -75MHz Core Frequency below Stock ( 300MHz Memory) but Heaven Score Wise this is the closest to Stock Value

Profile 3 = .900V (OverClock?)

  • Voltage/Frequency Curve: 1890MHz / .900V
  • Memory Clock 500MHz

.900V: Heaven Benchmark HWinfo snapshot after Run

  • Notes:
    • This Profile is not really considered UnderVolt since we figured out on the Stock Run that the Max Core Voltage is at .900V (but still considered doing this test for the sake of it).
    • Surprisingly, the lowest score out of all the tests including Stock Values.
      • Min FPS is the highest out of all the settings.
      • Maybe this would do better if Max Power Limit is increased by Acer.

I have OC'ed my GTX 1060 desktop before but I'm new to UnderVolting so if there's any misinformation in this post, please feel free to correct me. Hoping the info shared in this post will be somewhat useful to other RTX3070 Nitro5 owners (or even other GPU owners).

Observations:

  • On my tests (YMMV), Undervolting doesn't have much difference in temperature (mostly -/ 1 to 2C)
  • Surprised that Profile1 got the best Score out of the rest, I guess having Constant Core Frequency even though lower than stock factors into it.
  • I didn't include the results here but 3DMark GPU Tests, Profile1 also takes the cake.
  • Originally I was planning to use Profile1 (0.750V) for non-Gaming tasks then Profile2 (.800V) for Gaming/Heavy-Load Tasks but after seeing the results, not really sure what to stick to now lol.
    • Probably I should test .775V to see if there's anything different.
