I had absolutely terrible acne in high school, and decided to go on accutane just as my sisters had. I'm sure my diet wasn't great, but there was still zero excuse for me to have to deal with acne as terrible as I had. I had acne everywhere: forehead, temples, cheeks, shoulders, butt, etc.
I remember that my skin was...not great before I started accutane. My skin looked translucent, almost like wet rice paper, and almost immediately after taking my first dosage, I felt my skin harden. It got so tough it almost felt like a basketball. Over the next few weeks, my acne started to clear. Forehead was first, then butt and shoulders, then temples, and finally, my damn cheeks. My doctor and I were debating whether to put me on my final dosage, but my skin got so red and inflamed that I ultimately decided "Yeah, I think I'm done."
I still have acne scars from the worst of the acne on my cheeks, but overall, I cannot overstate how happy I am with accutane. Now, as an adult in my late twenties, I never have acne. I'm looking into getting a chemical peel for the scarring, but I fully recommend accutane for anyone with severe acne. It will change your life!
