Auditors taking on client responsibilities

Post Body

As an auditor, I feel we increasingly need to become more proficient in foreign client software to obtain information efficiently that we previously requested from clients. For example, using a remote desktop to pull PBCs directly from client files or training ourselves to use client software in order to obtain information/generate reports.

Does anyone have experience determining best practices for “give-take” changes of responsibilities between auditors and clients? I’m curious how firms determine if and when this level of client service becomes unprofitable over the tenure of an engagement.
