Hi guys,
About to encounter a fork in the road in my upcoming performance review and I'm not sure how much information to disclose to my employer.
I've been working as an Analyst for the past year and have provided the company with several efficiencies; most importantly, I was able to close our year-end procedures from 1.5 weeks prior to my joining to 2 days and recover approximately $200K in audit related issues during the year.
Furthermore, in my current role, I do have some leverage as I would not be easily replaceable without setting back the department a couple months if they were to decide to hire and train someone else.
The reason why I am torn is the following: My girlfriend got accepted to start her Master's program at Waterloo University which would increase my commute from 20-ish mins (15KM) to likely 1 hour (70 KM) as I am planning on moving with her. I currently live in the GTA and a move to Waterloo would require me to likely ask for a significantly higher salary to even consider staying.
The reason I would want to stay is that I see the potential for career growth but the thought of this excessive commute would likely drive me insane, especially in the winter months.
Does it make sense to disclose this information to my employer? I would likely be moving around August/September and my performance review is next week. What is a reasonable expectation for a salary increase?
Thanks in advance for any input. I will answer questions and provide any additional information necessary.
