So I was an industry accountant for 5 years. In 2020 I quit because I was drastically underpaid. I got swept up in the lie that âwe have a sever shortage of programmers we need as many software engineers as possible!â I figured it would be a better life and it couldnât hurt my resume to have more in demand skills.
So I got my masters in computer sciences at the end of 2022. And if youâve been following the news, massive layoffs have swept the tech industry. And I doubt theyâre gonna rehire anytime soon as with the advent of LLMs like chatGPT theyâre gonna try their damnedest to use AI to code and outsource checking the code overseas. I can tell you right now that that wonât work, but thatâs not gonna stop them from trying over the next several years.
Itâs so bad you essentially have the same odds of breaking into tech as becoming an actor. Literally the career advice to get a starting job is to become an online influencer. Thatâs not even a joke I have been told that by career professionals multiple times that thatâs just what itâs gonna take in this economy.
So Iâm just done with this bullsh!t. Iâve been applying to accounting jobs again. I had an interview I got rejected for. And they literally said âour main worry is that you will just leave for a software engineering job if we hire youâ. Idk what to do. I canât leave it off cause then I just have a 3 year blank in my resume. Iâm just so stressed and need advice
