Hello all, I don't know if this is cool, but I wanted to ask because I'm having some trouble trying to figure out my next steps.
If all things go well, I'll be a 38 year old graduate with my first bachelor's in accounting this May. I've had a lot of life situations that aren't worth getting into, but it's been a struggle getting this far and I'm proud of the progress I've made. Problem is - I don't know what my next steps are.
I live in a po-dunk town in the deep south where there's no really a whole lot of stuff here and most accounting positions are taken by people who have been in the spot for decades or lucked out with an opening because Jim Bob happened to know someone else's cousin that needed some work. I attend college online because it was the most feasible for me - so there's not really any networking I can do here nor is there any internships that I can go for. If I wanted to go to find work outside of town - the nearest big town is about an hour and half away. I was a bookkeeper for about two years back in 2016 for a small accounting firm, but other than a short stint as a Direct Bill Processor recently, my work history has had no run ins with accounting.
I feel lost and almost like I chose the wrong profession to finally commit to, but I'm here now, and I want to follow through and make the best of it and make good decisions. But I don't know what I should be doing in the run up and after I get diploma in hand, short of "Get the hell out of town".
Thank you for time and insight, y'all. I appreciate it.
