Epistemology Behind Psychotherapy

Hey everybody,
Lately I've been interested the science of psychotherapy. I'm very familiar with methods/application of CBT, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, DBT, etc. but I'm not sure of any articulated theses that describe how they work, and how they stand in relation to psychology as a science
Does anybody know of any good books that pinpoint the history and more importantly the *epistemology* of models in psychotherapy?
