Hi guys!
This may be a dumb question but I've been wondering lately of the primary school of thought regarding "random" thoughts and associations. I know that Freud thought that slip of the tongues and random thoughts all served as a window to the unconscious. And while much of what Freud proposed is now deemed as inaccurate simply for its lack of basis, he is still an important figure for acknowledging the unconscious and conscious as two distinct entities.
So my question is: how are random thoughts and slip of the tongues now viewed in the world of psychology? Have there been many studies to look into this or has this topic faded from view? I know that there have been studies regarding stereotypes and unconscious associations, but have there been other kinds of studies?
Thanks a lot!
