How to Write "Academically" for Philosophy?
Post Body

Hi everyone! :) This is my first time posting here. I'm a 2nd year university student who is taking a couple of philosophy courses this semester out of interest. (I might even minor in Philosophy because it's so interesting!)

Anyway, I recently got some feedback on a writing assignment. The grade was OK (a 73), but I got a comment from my TA that I used too much casual diction and rhetoric. My boyfriend (who is a philosophy major) said that my writing style is different from what is expected in philosophy, because in philosophy you're supposed to get straight to the point.

I'm wondering, are there any guides out there or advice you could give me on how to change my writing style to better suit philosophy assignments? I am so used to my current writing style and am not sure how to go about changing it.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)
