John 20:23 and the Origin of Confessions, Are they Connected?
Post Body

Catholics have long argued. that John 20:23 shows how the institution of confession to a priest was instituted, but what do critical scholars say about what the author of John possibly meant by that passage? Did the author have something akin to confession to a priest in mind when they wrote that, or something else? If it's something else, then what are some theories as to how the practice emerged?
