I have paused reading for a while thinking that in a world where God is dead, imagine yourself being Winston why would you sacrifice everything for freedom for an uncertain future that might comes after 1000 years. especially when you realize the shortness and suffering of life. Â
âShort and sorrowful is our life, and there is no remedy when a man comes to his end, and no one has been known to return from Hades. Â
Come, therefore, let us enjoy the good things that exist, and make use of the creation to the full as in youth.
Let us take our fill of costly wine and perfumes, and let no flower of spring pass by us.â Excerpt From: (Wisdom 2:1-11, RSV)â
Why would you just be expedient to climb the ladder of pleasure and power There is no escape from the suffering of life so pleasure and power can be the perfect remedy for or it's a moral obligation to seek truth and freedom? or it's just a matter of consciousness and seeking for meaning? and if it's a matter of meaning why would you accept voluntarily accept extra suffering, you could simply build a meaning life (family, work) and have a fairly amount of pleasure (possibly a good life )in a system controlled by totalitarianism? unless there are different levels of meaning and certainly suffering can be the deepest meaning possible as Viktor Frankl claims.
hopefully, someone can shed the lights on my questions.
