Haudagain Bypass - huh?
Post Body

I'm afraid I've never visited Aberdeen, but can anyone explain to me how this bypass every got enough support to get built? I thought Scotland was supposed to be progressive compared to England, but this seems very regressive. Do the people in this subreddit support it? Almost £50m spent for 500 metres of road, 129 council homes demolished, and what homes are left are hemmed in by dual carriageways on all sides. The community that has been displaced will have been broken up. Meanwhile Shelter Scotland produced a damning report on Aberdeen's ongoing housing crisis.

To me this stinks of dumping on the poorest in Aberdeen for the sake of a few minutes saved on the daily commute from the middle class suburbs.

Anyone care to explain what's going on here? It seems like a building project from the 70's. Encouraging driving isn't what we should be doing in the midst of a climate crisis. Meanwhile in Glasgow there's a campaign to shut down the M8.
