1. Gavroche has met Valjean and has recieved Cosettes letter. Do you think he will give it to Cosette or hide it away?
   
2. We are at the precipice of change within Valjean. What do you think he will do now that his happiness with Cosette is being unknowingly threatened?
   
3. Gavroche is quite the formidable scamp. I would prefer him to Marius anyday. This brings us to the end of book 4 as well. Do you have anything you would like to share about your reading expierence so far?
   
4. This is another chapter where Hugo puts himself and us the reader in the action. How do you feel about that? Does it work with the story or does it distract you?
   
5. The revolutionaries are down to 37 – does it sound like they have any expectation of ultimately surviving? Does it seem like they’re handling their situation well?
   
6. This chapter seems to make it clear that there is a larger movement and a bigger barricade elsewhere. Does this change your opinions or expectations of the Friends' actions?
   
7. Jean Valjean appears with a 5th uniform to save the 5th man!
