1. Do the clues about Father Mabeuf's earlier life indicate he was part of the earlier revolutions, or is Courfeyrac right that he was never a regicide?
   
2. What do you think of Gavroche's gun not going off at such a critical moment? Do you think he's far too young to be holding a gun at all and being part of this?
   
3. What are your thoughts about the author's craft (and/or translator's craft) in this chapter? Which line did you enjoy the most and which the least and why did you like/dislike this specific line? Were there any literary devices that stood out to you or descriptions of people, clothing, scenery etc. that were of interest to you?
   
4. After the barricade has been reclailmed they find that Jean Prouvaire was captured by the police on their way out. He is promptly shot and killed but not before declaring his love for France.
   
5. The chapter name is “Agony of Death after the Agony of Life.” What do you think of this title? What do you think of the way Éponine died? Was her death in vain?
   
6. Marius keeps Gavroche out of danger. What do you think of the sense of indebtedness that Marius still has for the Thénardiers despite everything they’ve done to him, most of which he is aware of?
   
7. The chapter details and explains Valjean's love for Cosette. It has been established before that Cosette introduced love and meaning to Valjean's life. What do you think of this love and their relationship?
