1. Mme. "Jondrette" has held onto a lot of hate for one girl. It might have been okay for another girl to have such a wardrobe, but not this one. Why do you think that is?
2. Marius is taking action, but going to the police could complicate things for "M. LeBlanc" as well as save him. What do you think of Marius's decision?
3. Alright, I think the gang's all here! Does anyone new to the story want to make a prediction?
4. Marius thinks he sees the heads of four men in a room that is supposed to be uninhabited. There are at least a couple of possibilities. Who might those men be?
5. My heart breaks for the two girls. This is such an awful way for kids to grow up.
6. Jondrette ignores and brushes off warnings that his plan may be compromised, such as at the end of this chapter. While Marius explicitly thinks of providence and we are privy to his viewpoint, do you think "Jondrette" also sees the reappearance of Valjean as an infallible act of providence? Do you think there is a comparison between the two?
7. M. "LeBlanc" brings what seems to be a fairly large amount of money and promises more in the future. From his own claims, that's all he ever wanted. In this case, why do you think money isn't enough for Jondrette?
