New AUG owner, charging handle question.

Recently got my AUG (love it!). Yes, I’ve already sheared my knuckles (even with underhand charging).
That said I’ve noticed something, when trying to lock the charging handle to the rear, it’s truly a difficult process in the sense that it doesn’t always catch that tiny lip. Which is a concern for myself. I’ve looked at some aftermarket handles (CD, ARID, Manticore) and I’m not sure if that’s a quirk of the AUG but it seems quite finicky.
Curious to see how others around here deal with it.
