Just how walkable is ASU and Tempe

I'm gonna be a freshman this fall semester and really worrying if leaving my car at home was a bad decision. I live in Arizona so I know how hot it gets and how long it stays hot for, and am wondering if the campus and the surrounding area is walkable enough for it to be viable in the heat
I plan on bringing my skateboard just to make getting around a tad easier
