As a professional loner, my word may be setting the wrong expectations but here it goes:

College is definitely different from highschool in the sense that you are more independent. Meaning that you’re more responsible in deciding which social event to go, and who you hang out with. If you’re like me and are more quiet then I recommend you go to the social event so you could meet people

I would also advise the OP to try becoming friends with their roommates as well as it’s great way to start the process of meeting people
