[Scene opens in the Quandry]

[SFX: Mopping sounds and muffled chatter]

[You’re mopping one of the outer hallways in the Quandry when you hear a familiar voice. Excited, bright, and vibrant]

“And if you’ll follow me this way, you’ll be privy to our wonderful Deep Sea project. Oh! And look who it is!”

[The scientist stops with his little tour and waves to you from within the safety of the building]

“Students, this is Blobby. Blobby is a jellyfish-humanoid hybrid and is very friendly. Say hello to Blobby.”

[The little ones wave at you and you swim a little closer, lighting up and blowing bubbles for them]

“Haha, thank you, dear. Blobby has been a dear friend since we breached their home dimension. Now, bear in mind, Blobby is non-verbal but has little cards to help us understand how they are feeling. Would you demonstrate my friend?”

[SFX: Water-muffled swimming]

“Ah, there. A sun! Blobby is very happy to see you all in their own special way. This here is our first field trip to see the Deep Sea project. Now, because you’re all part of a special program, you’re getting to see some very neat things, just like Blobby.”

[Pause]

“Hm? Why are they out there mopping up the pipes in the deep sea? Well, Blobby is our janitor! Don’t worry, we pay them and they’re treated as well as any staff member on my team. We’ve become very good friends thanks to the integration efforts! Which I believe is a remarkable step for us growing to know this new dimension better. They hardly could have sent a better ambassador, ey Blobby?”

[You hold up a card: :D]

“They can be a little sassy though, can’t they? Hmm? Especially when they think they’ve outdanced yours truly!”

[You switch the card: >;3]

[He laughs, good-natured]

“Thank you for introducing yourself, my bioluminescent bestie! We’ll try not to interrupt your work too much. I just wanted the little ones to see the good work we’re doing.”

[Card swap: <3]

[SFX: The Listener swimming a bit away and something of a heavy groaning noise]

“Now, here you can see the portal that was made to this new dimension. We have to keep it active, for now, but it is very heavily monitored to prevent any breaches. This submarine here we’ve dubbed “First Encounter”, and it will soon set off on its maiden voyage. We’ve sent drones in with high success, as it seems that most of the lifeforms are rudimentary. Really, Blobby is the most advanced lifeform we’ve met thus far.”

[SFX: The groaning noises growing and some shaking]

[Card swap::/]

“Hold on, kids… Something is making the glass rattle a bit.”

[You peer into the darkness, willing your little light blooblies to shine as bright as possible. You wish you hadn’t]

“Jesus Christ-!”

[The beast coils upward, so big the spotlights can’t even try to reveal it]

“Sea beast!! Blobby, swim!”

[You’re, instead, smacked against the dome by its tail (you think). The kids scream as you’re splayed on the glass, and scream harder as you pop back together, perfectly fine]

[SFX: The massive creature shifting and muffled screaming]

“By the gods, what is that thing?! Run, children! Run for the exit!”

[Pause!]

“No no no, Blobby is OK! They can be reduced to a single cell before taking sustained damage. They’re being very heroic and we need to appreciate them by worrying about our safety! Come, while the monster is distracted!”

[SFX: The creature bringing its immense body down on the tunnel. More screaming]

“Q-Quickly, into the submarine, before the tunnel floods!”

[SFX: Warning alarms and the lab collapsing]

[They hurry into the sub and it manages to seal itself before the ocean crashes down and shatters the dome. It’s eerily quiet aside from the creature shifting and howling in the depths]

[Note: For the creature “howling”, I’m using the “Julia” sound recorded by the NOAA at normal speed]

“B-Blobby, can you hear me?”

[Pause!]

“I’m taking those blown bubbles as a yes… Listen to me, you need to get to the rest of the Quandry staff, to the security official, and get them to send help! Hold up your card for 9, OK?!”

[You start to swim off when you realize that the sub is slowly being dragged into the portal]

[Pause!!!]

“Blobby, what are you doing swimming closer?! That thing is going to keep tearing you to bits!”

[SFX: Metal creaking]

[You’re just a simple jellyfish person, but you know that the little metal can going into the big, scary hole is not going to be good for your friend]

“N-No, Blobby, you can’t heft the submarine by yourself! If it gets dragged through the portal, at least we’ll be safe!”

[The creature turns on you again, infinite white eyes burning in the abyss]

[Card swap: :(]

[SFX: The howling becoming unbearably loud]

“Blobby! Let us go, go and get help! I promise it will be OK!”

[You tug in vain at the submarine but it keeps on its rickety path]

“Blobby!”

[Card swap: D:]

[With one more shudder, the machine lurches into the portal seconds before the creature slams its tail down on the little laboratory, and it disintegrates. You do as well, but you’re not concerned with that now. Only on the arduous swim ahead. Until a familiar, scratchy sound hits your ear:]

Deep Sea, we’ve detected catastrophic failure at entry point, come in?!

[SFX: Frantic card swapping]

Deep Sea, we can hear static but no vocalizations, come in!

[Pause!!]

Eugh, I’m not getting any response. I’m willing to bet that the censors just failed again. That part of the Quandry is locked down more tightly than any other. Send a dispatch team that way, Class 4, if they can spare a Cape or something

[Pause…]

Wait, isn’t that weird janitor down there? They’re nonverbal, right? We have a camera on their neck, too. Switch over to that

[Pause!]

[You wriggle around and tilt your head back at the big meanie still trying to chomp down on you]

There we goOOOHHH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!

[SFX: More howling in the deep]

CLASS 9, THAT IS A CLASS 9 MEMETIC AGENT, SOUND ALL ALARMS AND LOCK DOWN QUADRANT 4 IMMEDIATELY! I REPEAT, ANY IN THAT LAB SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IRRECOVERABLE AT THIS POINT

[Pause!]

Light it up! No one can find out about this and if you can understand me, jellyfish, you’d be wise to go back to your dimension or swim far enough that we never find you!

[...]

[You swim doggedly for the portal]
