“Ugh! C-Captain! There’s too many of them! We’ve walked into an ambush!”

“I knew the Icy Tempest wasn’t to be trusted–!”

[swords clash]

“Ugh–!”

“D-Don’t you worry about me–! Just get on the lifeboat! The only thing we can do right now is retreat!”

[pause]

“Heh… don’t play the hero, huh? Don’t worry about me. I can handle this–! Just get on the lifeboat already!”

[clang]

“... I’m glad to have met you too, but now isn’t the time for–”

[he gets stabbed]

“... Ugh…!”

[cough]

(thinking) … Did… did I just get stabbed…? Me…? Get stabbed…?

I… I think I…

… The water… get to… the edge…

[he falls over the edge]

… Are you here…? My siren…?

… Are you here to catch me…?

[splash]

… The water is so cold…

… All that blood… it’s kind of beautiful, the way it moves in water…

The saltwater hurts, but…

[pause]

Oh… there you are.

Why are you crying? I’m okay. You’re with me.

I told you… you could turn me if this ever happened…

I… would love to experience what the ocean has to offer with you…

[quiet shimmering noise]

… You’re kissing me…?

Ah… so you love me after all…

What a strange feeling… it feels like all my senses are melting away…

It hurts, but it doesn’t hurt… I can feel my body changing…

But I’m not afraid… you’re with me…

My siren…

[long pause]

“... Ugh…”

“… What… happened?”

[he gets up]

“… My siren? Where…”

[he looks around]

“… We’re underwater…?”

“Oh… I’m…”

[he swishes his new tail]

“Ah… I remember now.”

[pause]

“I’m feeling just fine. Thank you, my siren. You saved me… just like you said you would…”

[he sighs]

“This is all so strange… it’s going to take some getting used to.”

[pause]

“Yes, it does feel odd… I’m breathing, but I’m not… and I don’t have my legs anymore, so it certainly feels strange…”

“And the scenery around me…”

“... Wow…”

[pause]

“Really? The place where you come from is even more beautiful than this?”

“I suppose I’m not surprised… even I could see the coral reefs from the shore…”

[pause]

“Um… what happened to the rest of my crew? Did they retreat safely?”

[pause]

“You sent them a small wave to help them along? … Thank you. I’m glad that they’re safe.”

[pause]

“Hey, that crew was like a family to me. Even if you weren’t around, I still would have done the same.”

[pause]

“Wha– I do NOT have a hero complex!”

[pause]

“... Okay, fine, when you put it like that.”

[pause]

“Yeah… what do we do from here…”

[long pause]

“... Well… how about we head home?”

[pause]

“No… I don’t want to tell my parents what happened… in fact, if they knew… I might get sold, knowing how greedy they are.”

[pause]

“I… want to see the ocean from your point of view. And you know the ocean you come from the best.”

“I know it’s really far, but… I do want to go there with you.”

[pause]

“Well– no. I’m sure learning how to live as a merperson is going to take a lot of practice, but I know you’ll be right here helping me. Like you always have.”

[pause]

“Yes… you’ve always been here, my siren.”

“Oh! I meant to ask…”

“... Was there a reason that you kissed me? Besides, I’m assuming, turning me?”

[pause]

“Haha! Look at you, all flustered!”

“I’m just teasing you, of course. I know– mmph!”

[you kiss him again]

“... I–?! You–?!”

[pause]

“... W-Wait… really…?”

“B-But I… I was just…”

[pause]

“No, I– I’m not…”

[pause]

“I… I do like you.”

“I have… for a very long time.”

[pause]

“Well… I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to ruin what we had… and it wouldn’t have worked out back then.”

“But well… now that I’m just like you…”

“I… don’t have to be scared anymore.”

[pause]

“... Did you know…? For a while… you were the reason that I stayed around.”

“The life of a nobleman is hard… I handled it the best I could… which was pretty darn good, if I do say so myself, but I was already starting to wear down.”

“But you… you were so free. I started to think about our meetings whenever things got rough… and you kept me sane throughout every plot I survived through.”

[pause]

“*laughter* Yes. You kept drawing me back to you. Just like a siren.”

“I’ve loved you for a very long time… I just wish I had the courage to tell you myself.”

[he kisses you again]

“... Can you… say something…? It– it took me a lot of courage to pour my heart out to you like this…”

[pause]

“Hahaha! Of course you would say that!”

“Don’t worry. I don’t regret a thing. Not running away from home, not protecting my crewmates, and certainly not turning into one of you.”

“It just makes me believe that all of this was meant to be.”

[pause]

“Oh, right! We– we still haven’t looked at the northern lights together! From the looks of it… it’ll be starting soon!”

[you reach your hand out to him]

“Huh?”

[pause]

“... You’ll help me swim?”

“Oh, I can get the hang of this easily! Watch!”

[proceeds to not get the hang of this]

“... Okay, help me please.”

[you grab his hand]

“Let’s see the lights. And then we can go on a journey together.”

“We’ll see things far and wide… maybe things no one of this planet has ever seen before.”

[pause]

“Yes… of course, my siren.”

“I can’t wait to make many more memories with you.”
