Notes: This script is okay for monetization. Can be used on Patreon, just let me know if you do. If you use it, please give credit. You can change pronouns if preferred but otherwise please don't edit the script. My scripts are meant for adult audiences and all characters are 18 . For clarification on the format of the script, any place that says (Pause) is a place for the Listener's response. Anything in \asterisks and italics** isn't meant to be read aloud, it's there to either hint at the tone or provide context that might help the script make more sense.
Summary: Narrator is resting at home after being diagnosed with a concussion and Listener comes over to take care of them.
Word Count: Approximately 1,219 words (Not including any actions or cues left in asterisks and italics)
Writerâs Notes: Was trying to practice writing more convincing injuries (and the effects of injuries), so I did a bit of research on concussions. I'm not sure how accurate my interpretation is, but one of the symptoms I saw was sensitivity to sound/light, so I'd recommend speaking very quietly for this one!
Script Below:
\Narratorâs bedroom is impossibly quiet as Listener pushes the door open. The door creaks before Listener steps in and carefully closes the door behind them. The small noise wakes Narrator, who groans quietly.**
\Quiet, groggy** âHello? Is someone there?"
(Pause)
\Happy, still groggy** âOh, hey. Whatâre you doing here?â
(Pause)
âThatâs nice of you, though you didnât need to come all the way over here to check on me. Iâve just been sleeping, for the most part.â
(Pause)
âYeah, they told me that itâs pretty normal to be tired after, yâknow, a brain injury. They did all the testing and scanning stuff, and itâs definitely a concussion, but the doctor said it wasnât too bad. They just told me to rest as much as possible, no strenuous activities, and to check up with my regular doctor as soon as I can.â
(Pause)
âMhm, and drink a lot of water, too. They said that I should try to stick to water and foods that are lighter on the stomach, especially while Iâm still nauseous.â
(Pause)
âOh, itâs awful. I knew nausea could be a symptom of concussion, but this is something else. Seriously, it feels like someone is using my stomach as a stress ball. And somehow, the headache is even worse. I swear, my ears are ringing so loud I can hardly think and keeping my eyes open hurts like hell.â
(Pause)
âTalking quietly like this is a lot better, but itâs kinda hard to block out the noise from outside. Especially the cars - from the sound of it, traffic is hellish today. Iâm telling you, if I never hear a car horn again, it would be too soon.â
(Pause)
âDonât worry, youâre talking quiet enough that it doesnât hurt. Actually, youâre almost too quiet. Iâm kinda straining myself a bit to hear you. You mind coming a bit closer?â
(Short Pause)
âJust go ahead and sit on the edge of the bed, I donât mind.â
(Pause)
âReally. Come on, sit down."
\Narrator laughs quietly, trying to avoid causing themself a headache.**
âYou know, youâre being unusually polite today. Youâre acting like we just met and itâs your first time coming over to my place. Standing by the door, waiting until I say you can do something before you do it - it feels so weird. Just make yourself at home; hell, you're here often enough that it might as well be."
(Pause)
âOh come on, just sit down. It's not like Iâm going to break if someone else gets on the bed with me.â
\Playful/sarcastic** âI promise the bed isnât made of toothpicks, itâll hold us. Now would you come here so I can actually hear you?â
\Listener sits on the bed next to Narrator, the bed creaking under them.**
âThere we go. See? Now weâre both on the bed, and Iâm not even injured or anything.â
\Narrator laughs.**
âI mean, not more than I already am.â
âThat being said, thanks for coming to help me. I hate to admit it, but Iâm really down for the count. I tried getting up earlier but my head started spinning so bad that I fell right back on the bed. I know it wonât exactly be fun to watch over me, but I still appreciate it.â
(Pause)
âCâmon, you donât have to lie to me. Iâm sure that you have something else that youâd rather be doing. Didnât you have plans to go out to eat somewhere?â
(Pause)
\Concerned** âFor a work thing? That sounds like something important. If you need to go to it, I can always call someone else, it wouldnât be any trouble-â
(Pause)
âReally? Are you sure?â
(Pause)
âWell, if itâs a lazy night with me that youâre wanting, then Iâm more than happy to provide. If you wanna order some food and have it brought here, Iâm all good with that. Like I said, Iâll have to eat light so Iâll just grab something from the fridge. I think I have⌠Oh fuck, when was the last time I went shopping? I think there might be some⌠Maybe frozen shrimp? And some cookie dough?"
\Listener scolds Narratorâs food choices. Narrator sighs, pretending to be annoyed.**
\Playful, sarcastic** âAlrighty then, smartypants. If youâre so good with knowing what I should eat, what do you have in mind, huh?â
(Pause)
\Slightly surprised** âYou made me soup? Like, you actually made it yourself?â
(Pause)
\Admiring, slightly teasing** âWow, look at you, you little cook! Iâm impressed! What kind is it?â
(Pause)
âThatâs my favorite! Howâd you know?â
(Pause)
\Touched** âOh. You remembered that? That was so long ago. Thatâs⌠really sweet. Thank you.â
(Pause)
âHuh? Oh, Iâm actually not too hungry yet. My stomach is still pretty upset, and Iâm not sure Iâd be able to keep it down. If you want, you can go ahead and eat without me. I wouldnât mind.â
(Pause)
âSeriously, I donât mind. If youâre hungry, you should go grab something, or order it. Iâm fine with it, really.â
(Pause)
âI mean, Iâm not going to be going anywhere, and Iâll probably fall asleep soon. Itâs gonna be pretty boring if you want to stay here with me the whole time.â
(Pause)
âYou wanna take a nap with me?â
\Joking** âListen, I know you need to watch over me to make sure I donât pass out or puke blood or something, but you donât need to watch me that closely. You donât have to lay next to me and watch me sleep if you arenât tired.â
(Pause)
âAh, long day at work then? You do seem a bit worn out.â
(Pause)
âWell if youâre tired, then yeah, of course you can sleep with me. You wanna get under the blankets?â
(Pause)
âSure. Here, let me scoot over a bit so you can get in next to me.â
\Narrator moves over, the blankets rustling as Listener gets under them.**
âThere we go, nice and comfy. And⌠really, really close together.â
\Narrator laughs quietly.**
âHope you donât mind some cuddling because it doesnât look like thereâs any way around it.â
(Pause)
âGood, because Iâd love some cuddles right now. Câmere, let me wrap my arm around you and snuggle you like youâre that stuffed giraffe you won for me at the fair when we were, what, 13? Maybe 14?â
(Pause)
âThat day is one of the best memories I have. It was so much fun - just us, going on the ferris wheel, eating all the unhealthiest food ever made, and spending money playing games that were rigged for us to lose. We spent the whole day just running around, causing mayhem and being stupid.â
\Narrator laughs quietly.**
âGod, I miss doing things like that. Just going out and spending the day having fun with you. We need to do something like that soon."
(Pause)
âHm. Well, let me thinkâŚâ
(Pause)
âWait.Itâs coming up again soon, isnât it? The fair?â
(Pause)
âNext month? Hm. How about we both ask off that Saturday and we go enjoy it? All the rides and unhealthy food and everything? Then we can just come back here and drink and watch all those old movies we used to love before we knew what a good movie was?"
(Pause)
\Amused, tired** âAlright, itâs getting too hard to keep my eyes open and Iâm starting to get tired, so Iâm gonna fall asleep again. You mind if I lay my head on your shoulder?â
(Pause)
\Quiet, increasingly drowsy** âThanks. For everything, I mean. Youâre always here for me and I canât tell you how much it means to me. I hope you know that Iâm here for you, too. Anything you need, I want to help you with. Or even anything you want. If you ever want or need something, even if itâs just to talk, Iâm here for you. Just say the word, and Iâll be right there.â
(Pause)
\Very drowsy/groggy** âI mean it. You mean so much to me, and I would do anything for you. Really. You are everything to me. I donât know where Iâd be without you, especially on days like these. Whoever you end up with is a really lucky person.â
\Narrator yawns.**
\Tired, nonchalant** âAlright, sleep well. See you when I wake up.â
\The audio can either end here or be continued as a sleep aid with ambience/breathing sounds/etc.**
