“Anyways.”

[he leans in close]

“... What are you doing here?”

“Ah, being the librarian. Of course. Quiet little mouse like you? It’s the perfect fit.”

“Well… I was here to look for a book, but now that you’re here… I’d like to chat for a while.”

“Oh, come on. You sure you don’t have anything to talk to me about? It’s been a year, hasn’t it? Isn’t it about time that we talked?”

“And for your information, I do go to my classes! The book I want has to do with one of them!”

“Look, I know I skipped a lot of classes in highschool, but I’ve turned over a new leaf!”

“Is that so hard to believe?”

“Yes, I know you don’t have the greatest opinion of me, but shouldn’t you at least help a fellow student?”

“I know you blocked me, but I’ve always wanted to… alleviate this… misunderstanding that caused us to break up.”

“But still… I’ve spent the last year regretting all the things I’ve said and done to you.”

“... I didn’t think you would show up.”

“No, I won’t waste your time.”

“The reason I called you over today… is to say…”

“Hey! It– it’s taking a lot for me to say this, okay?! Give me a second or two to prepare myself, alright?!”

[deep breath]

“I’m… I’m sorry.”

“Don’t look so shocked! I– I know it’s a miracle that I said this at all, but let me finish telling you everything I’ve wanted to say all this time!”

“Jeez… okay, look. We– we broke up because I accused you of cheating on me. And it came to my attention after you changed schools that… that my accusation was false.”

“No, the pictures weren’t taken by me. They were… they were taken by Angela.”

[pause]

“... You don’t look very surprised about that.”

[pause]

“You– you always suspected that she was jealous of you?”

“Then why didn’t you tell me?!”

“Oh… you’re right… in the state I was in back then, I wouldn’t have believed you.”

“But… after you left… I– I got to thinking.”

(sarcastic) “Shocking, I know. But here’s the thing.”

“Angela was the one who presented the photos to me… and she was also the one who encouraged me to confront you in front of the whole school.”

“I’m… not trying to use her as an excuse. It was… my own superiority complex that… caused me to be unsure about myself.”

“I was always scared back when we were dating… I was scared that you didn’t really love me, and that you were just using me… It– it was always a problem that I didn’t want you knowing about, because I thought you would think less of me if you knew.”

“Yes! I know I should have just talked to you! But I’m bad at communicating, okay?! You were my first relationship, and I… I didn’t know how to deal with these feelings.”

“So when Angela showed me those photos… I- I thought the worst…”

“Well… after I started to put together the pieces, I started to observe Angela more carefully. And… I caught her gossiping to her girlfriends. I.. I heard her say that she was glad you were gone.”

“Because now she had me all to herself.”

“Yeah… I was too wrapped up in my own stupid problems that I didn’t notice the way she looked at me… or pick up on her advances...”

“I thought… I just… now that I know, I feel like even more of an idiot.”

“I… paid one of the girls who Angela considered “popular enough” to find out where Angela got those pictures.”

“... They were pictures of your cousin and you doing errands. Just like you said. I… I feel really, really disgusting for believing it now…”

“No, it– it was my fault. No one believed you because I was more popular than you. Your life became a living hell because of me. I was the one who was coerced into doing all those horrible things to you. The blame should fall to me.”

“After today, we don’t even have to see each other again. And if we do, it’ll only be in passing. If that’s what makes you more comfortable.”

“... But now that you know, it feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest.”

[he stands up]

“... What do you mean I should take responsibility?”

“... You missed me too?”

“Why?! After all that I’ve done to you?!”

“You should be angry at me! You– you didn’t even have to come here today at all!”

“But… why…? All I did was say what needed to be said…”
