Part 1

Context: They say a powerful vampire lord grew bitter and retreated from his own kind. He built a castle in the forest's heart and tried to be content with his own company. Alas, he found himself lonely. He'd spent much of his time cultivating a garden and the rose bushes were in blood. He plucked one and wished for one thing. "I wish to meet the love of my life, please". He thought it was just a silly fancy but, right before his eyes, the rose turned into a beautiful woman. She smiled at him and simply said "I wanted to see what you were like after you asked for me so sweetly". Their love became one of legends, a good way to scold lazy husbands who forget to show their love. Of course, it's just a silly story. After all, even the most beautiful roses wilt. Hm? Oh, I didn't mean anything by that at all. Not at all.

[R] = Rin, Seth's nephew

[L] = Lucien, a mysterious malefactor

[Scene opens back in the mysterious castle]

[SFX: Muffled talking and faint owl chatter]

[You lie bound to the bed, unable to move, only able to listen to the two men outside your room]

[R] “We’re just not sure what to do, Uncle… Our Crows have found no whispers, the guards' pockets have been well-lined to assure silence, and even Thok hasn’t been able to loosen anyone’s lips, no matter how hard he punches them. Whoever did this… They’re powerful and very well-connected.”

[The other man, the handsome man that talks to you so sweetly, sighs]

[S] “I see… Rose has never harmed a single soul, not even a bug if she could help it! No, this was for me. Someone wanted to hurt me as much as they humanly could. Though who, I… I do not know.”

[Pause]

[R] “You’ve been alive thousands of years, Uncle… Surely you’ve done some wrong?”

[A new voice whispers in your ear, sickly sweet and like hearing raw bliss]

[L] Oh he’s done plenty wrong… Such a bad man, isn’t he, little Rose? Listen to how he speaks so gently, so quietly… Do not believe any of his lies. No, no… It’s me you love, remember?

[Pause?]

[L] Oh, you may have loved him once… But he hurt you, remember? So badly… He threw you away and now he wants you back, now that I’ve fixed you… He has to pay…

[Pause]

[S] “Ah… In my younger years, I did fight in the Crusades, among other wars… I was… feral.”

[R, taken aback] “You were a feral vampire, Uncle?”

[S, with a sigh] “I was… I served under the banner of Lord Vaughn, a man known for his power and cruelty. He ‘encouraged’ his soldiers to ‘enjoy’ our conquest over the humans. I do not know what happened to him, though there were some rumors he fell madly in love with a Nun, heh. Can you imagine? He always did seem to love picking the most difficult challenges presented to him.”

[Pause]

[L] You see…? He admits to it. He admits to being a monster!

[R] “I see… Well, no matter your past, I believe you’ve redeemed yourself, Uncle.”

[Pause]

[S] “I was lost for ages, running on instinct alone, taking more blood than I could ever need… I was a monster, literally and figuratively… It was exhilarating and agonizing. I feel the closest comparison I can make is when a human becomes addicted to hard drugs. They feel as though they are unstoppable when all outside of them can see they are just… dying…”

[Pause]

[L] Shh… Not now. You’ll get a chance to strike his heart later. Just pretend you still love him. Be his sweet little Rose, for now. Once he’s dead, I swear I’ll come and bring you home, mi Ombra. I’ll make you feel so good, you’ll forget all of this…

[Pause?]

[L] … I did say still love him, yes. A slip of the tongue, I assure you. Now, focus. He approaches.

[SFX: The Listener struggling against their bonds and approaching footsteps]

[S] “Oh, my Rose…”

[His voice cracks and he quickly looks away]

[R] “Uncle, if this is too much…”

[S] “No, Rin. She is the love of my life, in sickness and in health! I will go to any lengths to help her heal, even if seeing her like this is… agony. Oh, darling… Please… I swear to you that I will not give up on you, no matter what.”

[Pause…]

[S] “I’m just glad you’ve eaten and rested a touch.”

[L] So you could gather the strength to kill him… Don’t forget.

[S] “I’m going to sit here, darling. Alright? I just want to hold your hand.”

[SFX: A bit of a struggle]

[He takes your hand and gently squeezes it]

[S] “P-Please, my angel. Please, I want to help you, more than anything, but I need you to talk to me. Let me in… Even if it’s just for a moment…”

[...Fight…]

[L] Yes, my love, fight it… Fight him

[S] “D-Darling? You said something, but I couldn’t hear…”

[Pause!]

[L] …do not fight me… you know what I can do to you if you fight me…

[S] “...Two…bricks… spiral… mist… well?”

[Pause!]

[S] “Darling, I… I don’t understand. Rin?”

[The boys looks just as perplexed]

[R] “I don’t… Two bricks… spiral mist…well? I don’t know of any wells nearby, and brick is rare…”

[Pause!!!]

[L] One last chance, darling… Don’t make me hurt you again, you know I hate it. It makes me weep to see you crumpled on the ground, tears in those beautiful eyes while you plead… “Oh, Lucien, please don’t-!”

[Got him]

[Pause!!!]

[S] “Lucien…?”

[R] “... I have heard of a Lucien in the nearby city, but only in passing. I will send our Crows out to listen, and I will investigate myself. Please, give me a week and-”.

[SFX: Electricity violently crackling]

[A surge of agonizing electricity whips through your veins. Your body convulses, and all you can do is scream and writhe]

[S] “ROSE! Hold on!”

[The man, your enemy, embraces you and the electricity surges through him as well as he groans and howls in pain]

[L] Rrrgh, that meddling…! FINE! Fine… Rest for now. It doesn’t matter. I’ll come to collect you shortly, alright…? Try and get something for those burns, hm? I love the marks I’ve left on you, but burns will make it harder for you to fulfill your purpose.

[...]

[S, coughing] “R-Rose, it’s… Rin, the healer! Please!”

[R] “Y-Yes, Uncle!”

[SFX: Rin hurrying off]

[The strange man lays atop you now, panting in pain]

[...]

[S] “Don’t be sorry… This isn’t your fault. I know you, Rose, I know you well enough to know that you’d never harm a living creature unless necessary. I will NOT give up on you, no matter what. Do you hear me?”

[You nod. It’s about all you can do]

[S] “Eheh… Do you… remember when we made up our silly little language that only we know? We talked in it for months until Rin called us both posteriors and stormed out because he thought we were talking about him, hehe. W-We were… we were technically talking about him… b-but more so what to get him for the holidays… You were so sad that he was sad so you gave him his gift early and then rushed out to get another…”

[His quiet chuckle turns into a bit of a pained whine]

[S] “...If you can remember our little language… maybe… maybe you can speak freely without whatever is hurting you…”

[Pause]

[S] “No no, you’re right… Just rest, for now. Feel my forehead on yours and rest… I will be here when you wake, no matter what happens. I promise.”

[The shock is wearing off and you can hear the Healer rushing in but all you can do now is pass out and pray for the pain to end soon]
