[SFX: A newscaster muttering on TV]

[N] “...and in recent news, powerhouse rockstar Kit Leland landed in hot water following his hospitalization due to an overdose. This is, of course, following several months of disturbing behavior after his long-time partner apparently broke off their engagement. Said ex-partner has refused to comment at this time aside from saying they “Hope Kit gets the help he needs”. Reporters are still-”.

[SFX: The TV turning off]

[...]

[SFX: A phone buzzing]

[...You shouldn’t]

[SFX: The phone continuing to buzz]

[... You answer]

[K] “B-Baby?”

[Pause]

[K] “No, no, no, I know! I know you dumped me, baby! I remember… I just…”

[There’s a pause before he whimpers quietly]

[K] “Baby, I can’t remember where I am… w-where I’m meant to be… I think I have a show but I got scared a-and… and I think I’m lost…”

[Pause?]

[K] “Hospital…?”

[Pause]

[K] “No… No, I think I’m… wait! Baby, I can see you! Hiii! Hi baby!”

[You turn toward your front windows and there he is, drenched in water and clutching a bouquet as he happily waves at you]

[Pause!]

[SFX: The front door opening and Kit stumbling in]

[K] “Baby… Oh, it’s so good to see you! It’s been… it’s been, ah…”

[Pause]

[K, quieter] “Six months…? Sorry, I… I guess I must have forgotten.”

[Pause]

[K] “N-No, I… I need you…”

[Pause!]

[K] “No! Not like the drugs! The drugs just keep me from getting too tired, baby! They keep me able to sing and dance and act, t-that’s all! Baby, please, please, I swear I can do better this time… Please, I just… I just need you to… I need you with me, O-OK? Life doesn’t make any sense without you!”

[...]

[K] “Please… please, just one more chance… Baby, I will spoil you rotten, I’ll spend more time with you, a-and we can even visit the town we grew up in to tell everyone to fuck off, right? R-Remember?”

[He sways a little and collapses to his knees, the roses scattering. He looks at the ground in a haze before his quiet crying turns to quiet sobs]

[...]

[K] “...Baby…? Please… Y-You still love me, right? R-Right? Even if we’re broke up, you don’t love anyone else, right? P-Please… I-I can’t…”

[...]

[He cries harder, shaking from the cold as he bows his head]

[K] “...I know… I know I make your life Hell… I-I know you don’t want to watch me die…”

[Pause]

[He’s quiet for a moment before he blinks and looks up at you, eyes lighting up. He smiles like he’s just seen you for the first time]

[K] “Baby! There you are! I was so worried, here, c’mere.”

[He hugs you happily]

[K] “I tried looking for you at the hospital and they were all “Mr. Leland, stop, you need to stay sedated!” and I was all “Please, Mr. Leland was my father, call me Kit”, and then they tried to tell me you weren’t there and I got so mad! Of COURSE you’d be there, you’re my baby!”

[He hums happily as he holds you, only pausing when you start to sob]

[K] “Baby…? Why are you crying, honey bunny? I-Is this about the groupies? You know I’d never, right? You’re my baby, not them, never ever them! I know I can act cold sometimes, b-but I just… separating my life as a rockstar from my life as your partner is hard sometimes. I have to stay a little numb, you know? But it’s hard… Please don’t cry, OK? I’m here…”

[Pause!]

[K] “Huh? I need to leave? Baby, I don’t u-understand…”

[Pause!!]

[He stares blankly at you as you try desperately to explain, eyes ringed in fatigue]

[K] “We… broke up…?”

[Pause]

[He sways for a moment, tears running down his cheeks]

[K] “... Can I use your bathroom, please?”

[Pause!]

[K] “Not for drugs! I’m going to throw uuurrk!”

[SFX: Kit sprinting for the bathroom and the door slamming shut]

[Pause]

[It takes a bit before he staggers out, looking pale]

[K] “... Ow.”

[Pause?]

[K] “Barfing sucks. Mostly the waiting for it to happen, you know? At least the after party is decent, hehe… I’m gonna pass out on your bed now.”

[SFX: A softened thud]

[...]

[K] “... My head’s a little clearer now, yeah. I took off all the wet clothes and tossed ‘em in the tub for right now. That’s why I’m mostly naked, by the way. I’m not trying to seduce you, woof, can you imagine? Eheh… enh…”

[Pause]

[K, quiet] “...Will you hold me for a bit? P-Please?”

[Pause]

[SFX: The bed creaking]

[You hold him. It’s all you can do]

[K] “T-Thank you, gods ...I need help.”

[His voice cracks and he somehow manages to cry even more]

[K] “P-Please help me… Please… I-I’ll go, I-I’ll leave you alone, I’ll… I’ll move on. B-But I need my best friend, I-I need the love of my life, I need… you.”

[Pause]

[K] “... I just wanted to feel… t-that’s all… I know it’s not right, I know it’s the depression talking, but it’s so loud… s-so strong… Feels like I’m drowning, dying, and I want it to be over, but I don’t want to leave you… but I don’t want to hurt you… I’m sorry. I-I’m sorry I’m ruining your life… please, just… please!”

[...]

[He tenses but calms as you run your fingers through his long hair, exhaling shakily]

[K] “... R-Rehab?”

[Pause]

[K] “Nngh… I-I don’t… it’s not that bad…”

[Pause]

[He exhales weakly]

[K] “Rehab or no deal… W-Will you… Would you visit me?”

[Pause]

[K] “...Pinkie promise?”

[Pause]

[He sighs again]

[K] “... I’ll try, baby. I’ll try… f-fuck, it’s so cold…”

[Pause…]

[K] “I can rest…? R-Really? You promise?”

[Pause]

[K] “Oh, baby… you make me so happy. Thank you…”

[He snuggles closer, out in no time flat and humming music under his breath. In all of that numbness and trauma, you can see he’s still there. That wild teen boy you fell in love with so many years ago]
