“Oh goodness, please don’t be afraid. I’m your friend, I promise.”

“I know, I suddenly appeared in your home… but it’s okay. I’m here to help. I won’t hurt you.”

“So…”

(under breath) “... oh God, what did my professor in Human Studies say…? Um… I’m already speaking as softly as I possibly can, uh…”

“Hey, so… I know you’ve… been going through some rough times.”

[pause]

“Well… because I’m your assigned guardian angel!”

[pause]

“Okay, I know that’s hard to believe since I haven’t exactly been… involved in your life, but there were complications upstairs before I could come to you, I promise!”

[pause]

“Y-Yes, I’ve been watching over you, but not in a stalking sense, I promise.”

“Um… would it help if I showed you my wings?”

[pause]

“You’d like to see them?”

“... Alright. Here, watch.”

[chime sound]

“See? Do you believe me now?”

[pause]

“Y-You want to do what?! Touch them?”

“I-I mean… there’s nothing in the rulebook that says you can’t… so…”

[rustling sound]

“Here. Just… don’t pull any of the feathers out…”

[soft rustling noises]

“Mmm…”

[pause]

“Oh, I’m sorry… It’s just… I’ve never had anyone stroke my wings before.”

“It… feels kinda nice.”

[pause]

“You… believe me now?”

“... Thank you.”

“So… I’ve been watching over you for a few years. Because of some… heavenly rules and whatnot, I wasn’t allowed to directly enter your life before now.”

“I could influence little things… keep you safe, for example.”

“Remember how you stopped for a little too long at that traffic light which let you avoid getting hit? That was me, holding you back for a few seconds.”

[pause]

“Oh, no need to thank me, it’s just my job.”

[pause]

“So why am I here now?”

“Well… it’s a little complicated.”

[pause]

“N-No! Well… well yes, I was ordered to come down here but…! It wasn’t because of you nearly getting killed yesterday! W-Well it was but…”

“Um…”

[pause]

“Alright… it’s because there were some complications that… basically caused the scales of your karma to tip, through no fault of your own.”

“T-To put it simply, you’ve been having some bad luck because of issues upstairs.”

“So… I’m here to keep you safe for the time being. Directly, because otherwise I won’t be powerful enough to help you.”

[pause]

“H-Help you how? Well… keep you safe from accidents. Help you with some work so you can focus on more important tasks… make sure you remain healthy, stuff like that.”

[pause]

“What? I-I’m an angel, not a glorified babysitter!”

“I-In all honesty I don’t fully understand humans, I failed my Humanity Studies class– ok forget you heard that– but I just–!”

“... I want to do my best for you, alright?”

[pause]

“Y-You were teasing me?”

“Ugh… don’t… don’t be mean to me…”

[pause]

“N-No, it’s okay…”

[pause]

“So… I um…”

“... You look really exhausted right now.”

“Do you mind if… I help you sleep?”

“Well most of my magic is limited right now, since I just appeared here…”

“But I’ll… hum a lullaby for you, if you’d like.”
