You can change pronouns if preferred but otherwise please don't edit the script. My scripts are meant for adult audiences and all characters are 18 . For clarification on the format of the script, any place that says (Pause) is a place for the Listener's response. Anything in \asterisks and italics** isn't meant to be read aloud, it's there to either hint at the tone or provide context that might help the script make more sense.
Summary: Listener is an artist whose art is being displayed at a local museum. When they go up to the museum after hours to see their art on display, they find that their prized statue - Narrator - is sentient and in love with them.
Word Count: Approximately 1,181 words (Not including any actions or cues left in asterisks and italics)
Writerâs Notes: I'm not gonna lie, I don't like how this script turned out. When I first had this idea, I absolutely loved it, but it felt off every time I tried to work on it. But I've been working on it for about a month - probably longer - and I'm gonna have to call it done. I've done too much work to just delete it and I really liked the idea, so I'm just gonna post it and maybe I'll come back someday and redo it. Hopefully, by posting this, I'll truly banish the writer's block once a for all.
Also, If you want, you may feel free to change out any words like "beautiful" for any synonyms you may prefer, such as "handsome," "attractive," etc.
Script Below:
\Listener and the Museum Curator walk into one of the large, open rooms in the museum where Listenerâs art is being displayed. As Listener looks around the room, the Museum Curator talks to them.â*
âAs you can see, all of your art has arrived in perfect condition and will be displayed in this room, with your statue at the center as the focal point. Since not all of your paintings fit in here, some will be displayed in the room next to this one, if youâd like to look in there after youâre finished here. We figured that, since youâre a local artist and are here in time for it, we would take the opportunity to let you walk through the exhibit before itâs opened to the public.â
\Listener thanks the Museum Curator as they look around the room, excited at having their art exhibited at the museum theyâve enjoyed visiting for many years. They ask if they can look around for a while.**
âOf course. Feel free to take as much time as youâd like to look around. The doors will be locking soon, but thereâs security guards throughout the building, and there will be someone at the front desk that can let you out whenever youâre done, though we ask that the latest you stay is until the last call. You donât need to let me know before you leave, since I might be done before you leave. But Iâm sure Iâll be seeing you around more, if tonight goes well.â
(Pause)
\Mysterious** âHm? Oh, no, I didnât mean anything by it. I just hope that you enjoy your experience tonight and decide to work with us more in the future. But for now, I must be going. Iâve got some work I need to finish in my office before I leave, but in case I donât see you on my way out, have a good night.â
\The sound of the Museum Curatorâs shoes echoes off the walls before disappearing, leaving Listener in the silence of the museum. The silence lasts for a good while as Listener begins to walk around, looking at their art on display. After a few seconds, a grand clock chimes, announcing the top of a new hour. Another pause of silence, shorter this time, before someone new slowly walks towards Listener.**
\Curious, hopeful** âCreatorâŚ? Creator, is that you?â
\Confused, Listener turns around and is immediately shocked to see one of their statues - Narrator - is walking towards them. When they see Listener, their excitement grows.**
âIt is you! Oh, Creator, it feels like itâs been years since Iâve last seen you!â
(Pause)
\Confused, still happy** âWhat do you mean 'who am I?â Youâre the one who made me! Iâm the statue you made - Iâm your creation.â
\Mind still reeling, Listener doesnât know how to respond. Narrator laughs, slightly sheepish.**
âSorry, Iâm forgetting myself. This must be very strange for you, right?â
(Pause)
âUm. Youâre not saying anything, so I assume that must mean that yes, it is strange.â
\Narrator chuckles again, beginning to feel a bit awkward as Listener continues to stare at them.**
âSorry, Iâm so used to hearing you talk that itâs a bit odd to see you so⌠speechless. When you were working on me, you used to talk to yourself all the time. Sometimes, you even spoke to me, as if you wanted to have a real conversation with me. I always wanted to respond, to let you know that I was listening and that I was there for you, but I never could.â
âBut then I arrived here, at this museum, and my greatest dreams came true! Now I can move the same as you, and speak in the same tongue you do!â
\Baffled, Listener asks how thatâs possible.**
âIâm not sure the exact means which make it possible, but the other statues have told me that there is another side to this museum. Theyâve told me it is full of older artifacts, pieces of artwork from throughout history, and among those is an artifact with some sort of magic woven into it. From what I understand, it is this magic that allows us to gain a life similar to your own, though it is limited to certain hours. Specifically, to the hours where the sun is gone from the sky.â
\Slightly sad** âBut, despite my dreams coming true, I was missing the one reason I had such dreams in the first place. I had been separated from you, from my dearest Creator. I had been taken from my home in your workshop and brought to a place Iâd never seen before. I was alone, and it⌠It scared me.â
\Hurt, sad** âCreator, why did you send me away?"
(Pause)
"But you did⌠You sent me here, so far from you. Why, Creator? Are you displeased with me?"
\Listener explains that they sent Narrator to be displayed at the museum because they were proud of Narrator and wanted to show them to the world.**
\Hopeful** âReally? You were so proud of me that you wanted to share me with the world? You truly mean that?â
(Pause)
\Bashful** âYou find me beautiful?â
(Pause)
âOh, Creator! I donât know what to say! Iâm so flattered that you think so highly of me. Though all the credit is owed to you; your mind and hands were what made me, and any beauty I possess is due to your craftsmanship.â
\Listener responds that they may have made Narrator, but Narratorâs personality is their own.**
âMy personality? I suppose youâre right in that you didnât create my personality, but what does that have to do with my beautyâ
(Pause)
\Flustered** âOh! You think that my personality is beautiful? ThatâsâŚâ
\Narrator laughs bashfully.**
âThank you, Creator. You have a beautiful personality, yourself. Itâs what first sparked my affections towards you, though it was your mind and heart that caused my feelings to grow into the adoring flame that engulfs me.â
(Pause)
âYes, Creator, I mean my words. I admire you greatly. I cherished every word and whisper I heard while you worked on me, and I would hear your voice even when you had gone for the night. Having your focus, your attention, made me feel dizzy in the most delightful of ways, and your every touch was what I imagined heaven to be. From when you were actually carving my form to when you would simply brush a hand over my cheek, being so close to you enchanted me. You still have me captured by merely being near me. Even now, I feel like we are trapped in a spell and if I were to only say the wrong thing, this illusion would shatter, and my heart along with it.â
âIn short, I love you.â
(Pause)
\Elated** âOh, Creator, Iâm so happy to hear that! To hear that you feel the same way towards me is making my chest hurt so oddly, but in such a pleasant way. Is this what Iâve heard you describe as feeling your heart race?â
(Pause)
âItâs a strange feeling, but I think that I like it, actually. To know that I can feel what you feel brings me such joy. I want to know everything you feel and to feel it in the same way you do.â
(Pause)
âEverything? Youâll help me feel everything you feel?â
(Pause)
âExcellent! Then, if I may, I have a suggestion as to where I would like to begin.â
(Pause)
âCould you perhaps kiss me, so I might know what it feels like?â
\Listener leans in and kisses Narrator. They kiss a few times.**
âThat feels⌠Creator, that felt amazing. You felt amazing. The way you kiss me so gently⌠Creator, it makes my heart hurt in that same lovely way. May I kiss you again?â
\Narrator and Listener kiss for a while longer.**
\Quiet, between kisses, feel free to improvise here** âI love you, Creator. I love you so much. You make me feel more alive than I thought was possible. You mean so much to me. I adore you.â
\Listener and Narrator continue to kiss until an announcement comes over the overhead system, announcing, âThis is the last call for all guests to leave the building. Please make your way to the front of the building.â This can be either a robotic announcement or from the Museum Curator.**
\Disappointed** âOh. I suppose that means that you must be leaving.â
(Pause)
âPromise youâll visit me tomorrow night? Just so I might see you again, even if only for a few minutes?â
\Listener agrees that they will, and they kiss a few more times.**
âThen I look forward to tomorrow, my beloved Creator. I can hardly wait to see you again, but I suppose that Iâll have to. In the meantime, I think Iâll explore the museum a bit more. You said you've been visiting this facility for years, correct?"
(Short Pause)
"Then I'm going to find just as many reasons to love it as you have. Though I can already think of a good few."
\Narrator chuckles.**
"But before you leave, a final kiss to remember me by.â
\Narrator and Listener kiss one more time.**
"Goodbye for now, my beloved Creator. I'll look forward to the moment when I get to see you next."
