Anything in \asterisks and italics** isn't meant to be read aloud, it's there to either hint at the tone or provide context that might help the script make more sense.
Summary: Listener is a witch who lives in a cabin in the woods near the mountains. Just as they've returned from gathering supplies, they see a harpy - Narrator - flying out of the cabin window with Listener's wand. After following them to their nest, Listener confronts Narrator about their wand. But instead of admitting that Narrator stole Listener's wand, Narrator begins to accidentally flirt with Listener.
Word Count: Approximately 1,076 words (Not including any actions or cues left in asterisks and italics)
Writerâs Notes: Holy shit, I haven't had writer's block this bad in a while! Hopefully I'm over the worst of it, but it may be a while before I get my next script done! I honestly thought this script would be garbage since I used it to sort of work out the writer's block, but I'm actually pretty happy with it! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this nice Halloween-ish script!
Script Below:
\Itâs a cool autumn day, with the wounds blowing through the trees and leaves crunching under Linstenerâs feet as they approach the cave in the woods They step inside to find who theyâve been looking for - Narrator, a harpy who Listener saw steal their wand. Narrator is humming to themself happily as they look over their new treasure. However, this humming abruptly stops when they realize Listener is there.**
\Surprised** âHuh? Whoâs there?â
\Listener steps forward, announcing themself.**
\Quiet, to themself** âOh, wow⌠So beautiful, just like the gems I found in that chest on the pirateâs shipâŚâ
(Pause)
âWait, hold on. Who are you?!â
(Pause
âA-A witch? Why is a witch here?â
(Pause)
âWhat? âStole from you?!â But I havenât stolen anything! I-I would never steal anything!â
\Mumbling** âWell, except for a few timesâŚâ
âBut Iâve never stolen anything from you! Iâm sure Iâd remember stealing from someone soâŚâ
\Narrator trails off. Listener asks what they were about to say.**
âHuh? Nothing! I didnât say anything- I mean, I wasnât going to say anything!â
(Pause)
âNo, I wasnât! There was nothing else I was going to say! I was just saying that I didnât steal from you!â
(Pause)
âNo, I wasnât going to say anything about you, or how you look like you're worth more than the necklace I stole last week!â
\Realizing what they said, Narrator makes a noise of panicked embarrassment before covering their mouth. Listener asks them what they mean by that.**
\Embarrassed, obviously lying** âWhat did I mean by what? I didnât say anything about how attractive you are!â
(Pause)
âN-No, I didnât⌠I didnât say that! It would be weird to call someone who just invaded my nest âattractive!â E-Even if you areâŚâ
(Pause)
âWell I canât help it! You are! Your eyes are justâŚâ
\Narrator trails off as they see Listener watching them.**
\Distracted** âOh, wow⌠Your eyes⌠â
(Pause)
\Flustered again** âUh, sorry, I-I didnât mean to sound weird! You just have really pretty eyes and I like looking at them because they look like the shiny rocks I pick up on the beach. Oh gods, now the person whoâs invading my nest thinks Iâm weird!â
\Thereâs a short pause before Narrator, upon realizing what theyâve said, points at Listener in an accusatory manner.**
\Indignant** âHey, wait! Youâre invading my nest! I already told you that I didnât steal your wand, so youâŚâ
\Growing uncertain** âYou, uh⌠you should⌠leave, I guess? Oh, but I donât want you to leave. Youâre so nice to look at, and I want to see you more. You look even prettier than the crystals that the nice fairy gave me when I gave her that weird glowy paper with all those big words.â
\Listener pauses, asking Narrator if they were the one who stole a scroll with forbidden spells on it from a nearby wizard.**
\Confused** âHuh? âScroll of Forbidden Magic?â Iâve never heard of it. And I didnât steal it from a mage, I just found it in this really tall tower that the fairy pointed out to me. It was all alone on this weird table with all these old books and funny-looking jars. So, I just took it and gave it to the fairy, and she gave me the cool crystals, and then I took them back here to put with the rest of my things!â
\Listener asks if Narrator does that a lot.**
âDo I do âwhatâ a lot?â
(Pause)
ââTrading?â Oh, you mean get things for people so they give me cool, shiny things! Yeah, I do that a lot. If they have something they need me to get and they promise to give me something in return, then Iâll get them whatever they need. My wings make it really easy, since I can get to a lot of places that other people canât. You know, since I can use them to fly. And Iâm really good at flying too! I get chased a lot when Iâm getting things for people, so I have to fly away, which gives me a lot of practice. I donât know why those people chase me, but Iâm faster than them, so itâs okay.â
\Narrator laughs, feeling happy. Listener asks Narrator if they get a lot of treasure for their trouble.**
âYeah, people give me a lot of cool things for getting them what they want! I have a whole stash of stuff people have given me.â
\Shy** âUm, you-you seem pretty cool, so I could show you⌠If you want, I mean.â
(Pause)
âGreat! Here, come with me.â
\Excitedly, Narrator pulls Listener further into the cave, leading them to a huge pile of shiny items ranging vastly in actual monetary value.**
âThis is all the treasure Iâve gotten paid with!â
\Rummaging through the pile, Narrator excitedly throws stuff into Listenerâs hands.**
âLook at this! The mermaids said that itâs called âsea glass,â and they give me some every time I bring them fruit! They told me that they really like fruit, but it doesnât grow underwater, so they have to pay people to bring it to them. And this! This is a bell! I got it from a vampire because he wanted some blood! I donât know why he seemed confused when I brought him some blood I found in a flask, but he gave me the bell anyway, so I donât think it matters. Ooh, look at this one! Itâs the shiniest crown Iâve ever gotten. I got it from a guy with a long cape! He said Iâd just have to bring him someoneâs head, so I took it off their neck and brought it to the man with the cape and he gave me the crown! Itâs got a lot of rubies - which are my favorite - but it also has diamonds, and I like those a lot too. Oh! And look at this! I found this one today, all on my own!â
\Suddenly, Narrator hands Listener their own wand, which theyâd stolen earlier in the day.**
âI donât know what it is or why itâs just a long stick with those swirly designs carved into it, but look at the shiny rock at the end! I asked one of the fairies that I saw when I was flying, and she told me that itâs called a âwand!â I donât know what that means, but look at the rock! Itâs so shiny and smooth! The fairy told me itâs called âquartz,âand that a lot of magic users like it! Oh! Youâre a witch, do you like quartz?â
(Pause)
âHm? You have a strange look on your face, is something wrong?â
\Listener tells Narrator that itâs their wand.**
âYour wand? But I found it earlier. How could it be your wand?â
(Pause)
âWell, yeah, I found it inside a cabin. A really cute little cabin with lots of quilts! But why does that matter?â
(Pause)
âYour cabin? But then that means that the wand is- Oh, itâs your wand!â
\Narrator laughs, amused by the whole situation.**
\Happy** âI didnât realize that the wand belonged to someone! Here, you can have it back. I didnât mean to steal from you, Iâm sorry about that. Well, actually, Iâm not too sorry, since I wouldnât have gotten to meet you if I hadnât stolen it.â
\Listener tells Narrator that theyâre glad they met Narrator, too.**
\Hopeful** âReally? Youâre glad you met me, too?â
\Narrator laughs again, giddy.**
âDoes that mean I can see you again?â
\Listener confirms that they can.**
âReally?! Then⌠can we maybe go for a walk tomorrow? Just through the forest? Maybe even down to the waterfall where the singing flowers grow?â
(Pause)
âPerfect! I still remember where your cabin is, so Iâll come by around noon. Does that work for you?â
(Pause)
âOh, I canât wait! This is going to be so fun! Here, you need to go home so tomorrow can get here faster!â
\Listener, amused, begins to walk towards the entrance of the cave.**
âOh, wait! Before you go, take this!â
(Pause)
\Shy** âItâs a dagger. Harpies always give gifts to the people that they⌠Well, to the people that they want to court.â
\Excited again** âAlright, now go! The sooner you get home, the sooner tomorrow comes and the sooner we can go on our date! Go on! Iâll see you tomorrow!â
