Context: There's a strange building that runs a strange program - said program is, largely, an effort to rehome and rehabilitate yanderes. Any who undertake the challenge are given monetary rewards, and that certainly makes it appealing. But you signed up for a different reason and, after rigorous training, the day came that you adopted your own yandere. The most extreme case at the center was your choice ala a seemingly nervous, wounded man named Desmond or "Dez". You've brought him home and it's time to see how he adjusts. It's been surprisingly good for a long while now, and you feel comfortable in the relationship. Dez does as well, it seems, and now you're engaged and enjoying your first Christmas together. Nothing can go wrong now.

[Scene opens at home]

[You stir as Dez excitedly wakes you]

“I-It’s Christmas!”

[You look at your phone: 5 AM]

“I-I know it’s early, but… but presents a-and Christmas specials a-and turkey! Mmh, turkey…”

[You get up, get your robe, and follow your fiance as he hurries into the living room]

“Aahhh, this i-is so exciting! I-I think I might have bought y-you too many gifts, though…”

[You glance at the pile set aside for you. It’s not too far off from reaching the ceiling]

“Y-You open yours first, OK? O-Or we’ll take turns! I just… w-want to see the happiness on your face… H-Hopefully it’ll be happiness, I-I went through your wishlist and got pretty much everything.”

[Pause?!]

“Y-Yeah, even the wishlist labeled “not naughty stuff”, w-why?”

[...]

[Your fiance giggles quietly]

“Baby, c’mon… I-I know what you’re into, I don’t care. T-Though I really wish they’d used a more d-discreet box, M-Ms. Johnson across the street kind of…s-sort of saw me carrying in said b-bright pink box w-with the pictures on it…I didn’t really know what to say s-so I just exclaimed “O-Oh good, more for my collection!”. H-Hey, don’t laugh! I-I took a bullet t-to protect your image!”

[You two laugh together and make your way through the presents]

“H-Here, Mrs. Whiskers, I g-got you some special cat treats.”

[The cat glares at him and growls as she noms her treats. Dez rolls his eyes and gets a few pets in before she swipes at him]

“S-See? Mrs. Whiskers i-is more than enough chaotic t-toddler energy, right?”

[Pause?]

“W-When is my brother coming over? A-About 2 PM, I think.”

[Pause]

“D-Don’t worry, sweetie, I’ll h-help get the kitchen cleaned up. I-It kind of looks like a zombie apocalypse happened in there at present, right? I, u-uh… s-sorry the mixer got away from me last night… a-and that the batter on the ceiling is t-too high to get with the ladder…”

[Time transitions to 2 PM]

[SFX: A knock/doorbell]

[Dez gets the door and you see his twin brother forcing a smile. It quickly turns to surprise as Dez hugs him]

“I-I’m so glad you could make it! S-Sweetie cooked plenty, so b-be sure and help yourself, OK?”

[K, confused] “You’re…wearing an engagement ring?”

“Y-Yeah. I told you, I-I proposed last night! A-And they said yes.”

[K] “W-Wow, I uh… Congrats, Dez! I’m really happy for you!”

“T-Thanks. Come on in, m-make yourself at home.”

[SFX: Dinner noises]

[The three of you, four with Mrs. Whiskers, eat together while Dez chats merrily with his twin. His brother gradually eases, joking and laughing, until:]

“D-Do you think I should call D-Dad and tell him h-how good I am?”

[K, hesitating] “Dez… You know that it’s just going to end poorly. This turkey is really good, by the way.”

“T-Thanks, Sweetie is a really good cook… B-But you really think there’s no chance…?”

[K] “I think that… it’s not worth taking the risk to find out, Desmond. You’re doing so well. Like… astoundingly well! Dad’s just going to knock the wind out of your sails… He’ll make you feel like you’ve accomplished nothing…”

[Dez looks away, clearly put out. You take his hand and gently squeeze it. He perks and smiles at you almost immediately]

[Pause]

“Y-Yeah… You’re right. I-I know it’s up to me, b-but… I don’t know if it’s worth the risk…”

[Pause]

“Thanks for trusting me, b-baby… I-I’ll think it over, OK?”

[K, with a smile] “You know… I had a really good feeling about you when you asked for Dez. I’m glad I wasn't wrong. This big idiot deserves to be loved.”

[Dez laughs and lightly pushes his brother’s arm]

“S-Shut up, you dick… C-C’mon, the sooner y-you finish your dinner, t-the sooner I can kick your ass o-on my new console.”

[K, with mock disgust] “Ugh, console peasant.”

“P-PC elitist! H-Huh? Oh! Y-Yeah, go get yourself a nap, sweetie. I-I’ll try to be quiet while I’m m-murdering his K/D.”

[They go off to engage in epic combat via controllers and you take some time to yourself, getting in a well-earned turkey nap]

[Time transitions to 7 PM]

[Hours later, you are woken by a faint noise of distress]

[SFX: The bed creaking and footsteps]

[You move into the hallway and pause as you hear what sounds like crying. From your vantage point in the hallway, you can see Dez’s shoulders shaking as he sobs quietly at the computer]

“S-Stupid, stupid… T-They were right… T-They were right, n-nothing will e-ever be good enough… I-I just…I just thought…”

[Pause]

[For once, he doesn’t acknowledge you as you approach. As you rest your hands on his shoulders, he puts his face in his hands and begins to sob]

“I-I-I-I’m sorry, baby… I-I called my D-Dad…”

[Pause]

[His voice hitches as he sobs]

“H-He didn’t c-care… T-Told me “Oh good job doing what any n-normal person can do”, I-I don’t-! W-What am I meant to do to even remotely make that man happy?!”

[Pause]

“...y-you’re right… I c-can’t. I guess I j-just wanted so badly…e-even if it was just for a second…”

[You stroke his hair and let him cry until his eyes are bloodshot, getting him some water]

“... I-I ruined my own first Christmas… G-Good job, Dez, y-you fucking idiot…”

[Pause?]

“Y-Yeah, the presents w-were fun a-and the food was delicious… H-Having my brother over was nice, too… I w-wish this one incident in all of that j-joy didn’t ruin it, I r-really do.”

[Pause]

“T-Thank you for holding me, sweetie… I-I’m sorry… I-I’m just so tired at t-this point…”

[You help him stand and get into bed, cuddling up with him as he sniffles and yawns]

“Y-You know… If I hadn’t b-been through all I have, I-I may have never met you… S-So that makes it all worth it, in the end. I couldn’t ask f-for anyone better than you, my love. A-And I’m so excited to be at y-your side forever… G-Geeze, that wiped me out… I can barely keep my eyes open…”

[Pause]

“You’re gonna take a little walk? Nnh… Breathe, Dez, it’s fine, they’ve done it a million times and always come back, it’s OK… J-Just stay safe, OK?”

[SFX: Footsteps moving about quietly and then a door opening and closing]

[You kiss his forehead and wait until his breathing eases before you get dressed for your walk, grab all you need to clear your head, and head out into the night]
