Ah, they’re probably out getting a last-minute gift. I’ll just get our room ready for tonight.

Alright! Rose petals from Holland, authentic French wine, and Swedish chocolates. We should be set! I’ll just wait for-.

*small pause*

A note? Ooh, maybe we’re doing some scavenger hunt thing! Let’s see.

*small pause*

Attention, |Superhero Name|. Your love life is about to meet a ~steep~ end unless you ~drop~ the hero gig, and ~fall~ into obscurity.

Ugh, probably MindSweeper. No one else would actually highlight the murder threats in the ransom note. I’m going to have to give that chump a piece of my mind once this is over.

Okay, MindSweeper’s last twelve crimes have happened within a forty-seven-mile radius of his first hideout, so if my love is dangling off a cliff, then there are only three options. Blackpeak is gang territory. Tri-Head would be a little too cold for spandex. So they’re probably atop RidgeFall. Plus, that one has “fall” in the name. Stay strong honey! I’ll be there soon!

Just as I suspected. You know, for all your riddles, you aren’t very smart, MindSweeper.

*MindSweeper speaks*

Spare me the speech. I usually let things like this slide, but tonight is very important to me. Let the hostage go, and I’ll take you to GreyTide with minimal bruising.

*MindSweeper speaks*

Don’t try it! You know that you can’t beat me. And I can definitely catch the hostage and stop you before you could ever hope to escape.

*MindSweeper alludes*

That’s okay. A little confusion is to be expected. MindSweeper took you hostage, and when I threatened them, they shot you and dropped you off a cliff. I caught you and brought you here so |Healer Superhero| could help you. Sadly, they were in Antarctica when I came, so it took a while for them to come to see you. I’m sorry to say it but, the shot did serious damage to your spine. You’re paralyzed from the waist down, and you probably will be for the rest of your life.

It’s going to be okay! I’ve got an in with quite a few world leaders. We’ll get you the best help money can buy. Full spinal reconstruction if that’s necessary. Anything for you.

*listener questions*

What happened to MindSweeper? Oh, they got away, but I think you won’t have to worry about them anymore. I doubt they’d dare to hurt you again. They know how angry that’d make me.

*small pause*

Let’s think about something more fun! You’ve only been out for a few hours, so it’s still our anniversary! You aren’t mobile, but I brought some stuff here. We aren’t going to miss today because of something as minor as an irreparable spinal injury!

(dry chuckle)

I brought the movies we were going to watch. And some sweets from various candy capitals of the world. We could sample them together.

*listener denies*

It’s alright if you’re not up for food yet. I imagine you’re still in some pain. Can I just, lay in the bed next to you? We can try to snuggle up and watch the movies.

*listener agrees*

What? On my cape? Oh, I’m so sorry. I’ve been in such a rush, I didn’t realize I still had it on. I know you’re not too squeamish about blood, but it’s still kinda gross.

Yeah, it’s blood. I carried you while you basically bled out, remember? Oh wait, do you remember that? |Superhero Name| was actually really worried when they saw me. My whole outfit was stained red.

I’m sorry if I seem too calm about this. I’m really scared hun. I was even more terrified when I got here and |Healer Superhero| wasn’t here yet. I was worried that I’d lose you. But now you’re stable, so I feel a lot better, and I know that if I was panicked, it’d make you uncomfortable, so I’m trying to be your rock for a while. Just until you’re back on you’re feet.

I can handle it, honey! I stop the world from being blown up every other Tuesday. I think I can hold a little bit of emotional tension. And when you’re recovered, we can head to a mind spa or something. Fix any problems this little encounter caused.

Hey, it’s going to be okay. I’m going to take some time off superhero-ing. I’m not letting you out of my sight until we both feel perfectly safe. I spoke to |Mechanic Hero| about getting our home some defenses. And I think I have something to keep you safe while you’re out. You won’t have to worry about any villain ever again.
