No, don't play dumb. You and I both saw what just happened. You . . . you saved me from some crazy guy in the parking lot. You, like, flew across the lot. And you knew exactly how to stop him.

No, he wasn't. Drugs don't give you fangs. He had fangs. And I may not believe in much, but I know what I saw.

No, I believe you. I just . . . [sighing] it's a lot. I mean, you spend your life thinking that this thing that goes bump in the night isn't real and then bam, you're almost turned into dinner.

I'm fine. He didn't touch me. You made sure of that. Which brings me to my next question, how did you do that?

I'm sure. I need to know.

No, I mean, give me a second. It's just a lot to process. But it makes sense. Why you would barely eat in front of me, why we never did hikes or picnics in the summer--you're a vampire. Just like the one that attacked me.

Wait! No, that's not what I meant. I don't think for a second that you would eat me.

Yeah, I'm serious. You think if I thought you'd kill me that I'd still be holding your hand right now? I'm not scared of you, baby. It's going to take a minute to adjust, but it makes sense really.

So, does this mean that you have powers and stuff?

Can you turn into a bat? Oh! Can you hypnotize people?

I mean it's different, yeah. But if you hadn't been a vampire, we'd both be dead, right? So, the way I see it, I'm pretty lucky my girlfriend is a badass vampire.

Should I?

I mean it. Should I be freaking out? Is there a reason?

If you think I'm going to freak out just because I found out you're not exactly human, I'm not. You're not like that . . . thing that attacked us. You don't feed off of people, right?

Yeah. Animal blood. That's what I figured.

I know that because I've cut myself in front of you before and you haven't even flinched. I've slept beside you before and not once have I woken up to find an odd bite anywhere. You can control yourself.

No. I'm not. You can ask me 1,000 times and my answer won't change. I'm not scared of you. I'm not freaking out. I'm not running. I'm here. With you.

Shouting at me still isn't going to change a thing. I'm not scared of you.

No. Not even when you look like that, fangs and all.

Fine. Then do it.

Yeah, I'm calling your bluff. If you think you'll hurt me, then do it. Prove it.

You can't. That's not who you are.

Do you want to break up? If we hadn't been attacked, would you even be saying this right now?

That's what I thought. Look, if I'm happy and you're happy, then what's the problem?

Yes. I'm aware. You've said that about ten times now. You're a vampire. I understand.

I'm not saying that. It is a big deal, yeah, but it doesn't have to be. We can figure something out.

Why are you trying to push me away?

You are. You keep giving me every reason to end this. Is that what you want?
