[window opens]

“Hello, my dear. I apologize for stopping by to meet you so late at night…”

“But tonight is a special night, and I want to take you somewhere.”

[pause]

“No, I’m not kidnapping you! I’m just asking for your company tonight, my rose. After all, I could hardly leave my beloved alone on a night like this.”

[pause]

“Yes, the Festival of Hearts might be tomorrow… but I want to be the first person you see when the clock strikes twelve.”

“So… will you let me whisk you away tonight? I promise, I’ll keep you safe.”

[pause]

“Heh, I knew you wouldn’t turn me down.”

“Alright, I’ll stay outside while you get ready!”

[clothes rustling]

“Wow, that was fast. Far faster than it takes for any of my father’s mistresses to dress up for him.”

[pause]

“Wha– no, I’m not comparing you to them! You look amazing no matter what you wear. On the other hand, they need to dress themselves to the nines in order to even hold a candle to you!”

[you take his hand]

“Hup! There we go. Watch your step.”

[pause]

“Don’t pretend to be afraid of heights! I know that you sneak out of the house this way all the time.”

“Oooor… is this just a ploy to get me to sweep you off your feet?”

“Pfft– ahahaha! Look at your face! There’s no need to be so embarrassed, I was just teasing you!”

“Huh?”

“You… wouldn’t mind?”

[rustling]

“What do you think? I’ve been sparring with the Captain of the Royal Guard every day. I’ve gotten even stronger, right?”

[he jumps down from the balcony]

[rustling]

“Only you would have the guts to do such a thing to the Crown Prince, hm?”

“The streets are quiet indeed.”

“Everyone’s excited for the Festival of Hearts tomorrow, so of course they’re getting a good night’s sleep.”

“You should have heard my father’s mistresses fighting over who my father would take out on a date tomorrow; I heard it all the way from my study!”

“Why, I was almost hit by a flying piece of dirt that Marchioness Pricilla threw at Duchess Veronica! Honestly…”

[pause]

“You always seem to find the stories about the things I see in the palace so fascinating, my rose.”

[pause]

“Hmmm… it really is a matter of perspective. When I first snuck out of the palace, I was entranced by all the things I’d never seen before. If you hadn’t rescued me back then, I would have been scammed out of a lot of money, haha!”

“Hey! I was a lot younger back then! I’ve learned my lesson now!”

“Why, I even learned the art of haggling from you!”

“I mean… I’m planning on running away with you, after all… so I might as well learn while I can.”

“Erk– p-please don’t bring up my cooking skills…”

“I’ll get better, I promise…”

“Yes, we have been walking for a while, but this place is worth it, I promise.”

“I found it when I snuck out of the approved grounds for the Royal Hunt last summer!”

“Hey, I still came home with the biggest elk you’ve ever seen! And it was caught well within the hunting ground too!”

“... I still regret that I couldn’t gift the Elk to you and name you the Queen of the Hunt.”

[pause]

“No, you’re right. That would have invited far too much trouble.”

“But if you did attend… I’m certain that you would have been the most beautiful among anyone there.”

“You may not be a noble, my rose, but since when did I ever care about that?”

“All I ever wanted was to be able to cherish you, without having to worry about my status as a prince.”

[he kisses your hand]

[foliage rustles]
