[Scene opens in the villain hall]

[SFX: General chatter/games/office nonsense]

[You accompany your father and little brother to the villain hall on this fine day. He’s already looking about for the one thing he always enjoys: arguing with his nemesis]

[F] “Alright, kids… Bring your kid to work day! Remember our deal. Damien, if you want to go fight with the other villain kids, do so, but don’t get fucked up enough that your mother tears my head off.”

[D] “Yup.”

[Pause?]

[Your father jumps with a shriek]

[F] “Gah! Fade! I forgot you were here!”

[Pause…]

[F] “Erm, yes… do whatever. OOH! There’s that smug bastard! Victor! Oh, yoohoo!”

[D, with a sigh] “Here we go…”

[SFX: Them moving through the crowd]

[The other gentleman, Victor, smiles his normal, smug smile]

[V] “Oh, Henry… How unpleasant it is to see you. It seems your son is growing into something resembling a useful member of society, at least?”

[F] “HA! Damien is exceptional, my old friend. Where’s Rory at, by the way? I’m sure the two of them could put our boasts to the test.”

[Victor nods silently to a giant of a wild-haired boy, about your age, absolutely decimating what appears to be a T-Rex in the arena]

[ANNOUNCEMENT: THE T-REX KID HAS LOST]

[V] “Just over there, beating up a t-rex, dear boy.”

[Pause…]

[F] “Oh, ehm… Hit a growth spurt, did he?”

[You exchange looks with your little brother]

[D] “He’s going to make me fight that gorilla of a teenager, isn’t he…”

[Pause]

[Victor jumps]

[V] “GAH! When did the goth girl get here?!”

[F] “Goth g-?... GAH! THAT’S MY DAUGHTER! A-Ahem! Your son might be… erm, is, admittedly, a tank, but he’ll never land a hit!”

[The other villain smirks politely, eyes meeting yours briefly]

[V] “Mmh… Shouldn’t your daughter be prepared to step in? She is his backup in case Rory gets carried away, I assume?…”

[F] “What? Oh! Fade, you’re here! Erm, I don’t think that’s necessary. Damien can handle himself.”

[. . .]

[Your little brother shoots you a look]

[D] “Please tell me you have my back… I think Dad’s forgotten that I’m an elemental hero aka ‘no combat training allowed’ because I’m already ‘too OP’... If that mammoth gets a hit on me, I’m done for…”

[SFX: Pat pat]

[F] “Go on, son! Get in there and show Rory that you’ve been putting in your training!”

[D] “Ugghhhh… OK, Dad…”

[Your brother trudges off as you wish him a rather sardonic ‘Good luck’]

[SFX: The crowd roaring/the arena reacting to his presence]

[ANNOUNCEMENT: CLASS THREE VILLAIN. SHADOWMANCER, HAS ENTERED THE ARENA!]

[R, turning to face him] “Well, well, well! The simpering Shadowmancer has come to face the mighty Nighthowl once more, hm??”

[D, sighing] “Shut up, Rory, geeze. We have fourth-period algebra together…”

[SFX: The crowd laughing]

[Rory turns scarlet and stances up, his massive fists balled up]

[R] “Square up, small goth!”

[D] “Whatever…”

[Note: Damien can command shadows, to an extent and Rory is a massive, Barbarian tank that can blitz most damage. Feel free to interpret their fight as you see fit]

[They go for a bit, your brother managing to keep distance and confusion over Rory. He’s wearing him down… slowly… but, as he mentioned before… one hit and-]

[SFX: An arena-shaking hit/the crowd going “Ooooh’!]

[Rory stands over your brother, victorious but perplexed]

[R] “The mighty Nighthowl is… perplexed that you went down in one hit… Ehm… Dad??”

[. . .]

[V] “The rules are until one person taps out, son. Make him tap out.”

[R] “Ohh, ‘Uncle John owes us money’ strat, got it!”

[SFX: The crowd roaring with bloodlust]

[F, antsy] “Ha ha, very good villain performance skills, son! Indeed! Heh… GET UP OFF YOUR LEATHER-CLAD ASS, BOY!”

[ANNOUNCEMENT: A CLASS FIVE UNIDENTIFIED VILLAIN HAS ENTERED THE ARENA]

[SFX: The crowd stirring with interest/Fade approaching Rory rapidly via shadow flight]

[R] “Who-?”

[You check him in the gut, and dart away before he can swing back belligerently]

[R] “RRGH-! WHO?!”

[SFX: Another hit, this one sending Rory through a cement wall/the cement wall reacting]

[V] “Identify that anomaly! NOW!”

[SFX: Tremendous impact]

[SCANNING: CLASS FIVE UNRANKED VILLAIN - FADE]

[SFX: Confused murmurs]

[The behemoth boy lurches up from the rubble, wiping blood from the corner of his lips]

[R] “...Who are you to challenge the MIGHTY- oh… Oh, wait… Um…”

[He glances over at his father uncertainly]

[R] “Dad?! I’m conflicted on the idea of punching a woman!”

[V] “She put you through a wall of cement, boy! You remember the family motto!”

[R] “‘Yes!”

[He slams his bloodied fists together and the shockwave rattles the arena]

[SFX: The shockwave]

[R] “EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL FIGHTS!’!”

[SFX: The crowd roaring]

[R] “To whom do I have the honor of beating?!”

[He points dramatically at you as he asks this. You sigh and strike your ‘pose’]

[Pause.]

[R] “Aha! I have never heard of you, Miss ‘Fade’, but I shall battle you with all of my fury regardless!”

[...]

[SFX: Power raising and the two charging each other]

[Note: They would be rapidly exchanging blows between dialogue but feel free to interpret them throwing hands as you see fit]

[R] “I… I can’t pin her down!”

[V] “What… It’s like she’s teleporting about while still maintaining repeated strikes to his gut… What is this?! How did a memetic hero learn martial combat without you getting bombed from orbit for it?!”

[F] “...W-What…? What are we discussing-?”

[SFX: An impact of some sort from the fight, enough to startle their fathers briefly]

[F] “HER POWER IS MAKING PEOPLE FORGET! She’s not teleporting, he just can’t remember where she is! It doesn’t work on her mother or brother, but no one knows why! I don’t know how she learned that kind of martial combat!”

[V] “Shit, we have to-... to…”

[SFX: The crowd roaring]

[He has you in a bear hug at the moment, form significant]

[R] “Huh… uh… Wow, you… Nngh… broke a few ribs… but I have you now, pretty lady!”

[Pause…]

[He turns scarlet]

[R] “No! NO!! NUH-UH! Nighthowl did not call you a pretty lady in front of a crowd!”

[ANNOUNCEMENT: EXPOSE HIM]

[SFX: Laughter, if desired. If desired, it must be villainous]

[The poor mountain of a man stares at you in abject panic while you just… let him have a cuddle]

[R] “...I have no idea what to do right now and I think I’m dying.”

[Pause?]

[R] “...Yes. I will put you down… We will shake hands like MEN! U-Uh… fuck. Oh my God, why is this so… Jesus this is harder than fucking algebra!”

[Pause?]

[R] “Oh, you tutor algebra? Ohh! That would be amazing! I mean I’d have to try REALLY hard not to stare at you the whole time because, I mean no disrespect, but goth girls are just…”

[He makes an expression you equate to that phenomenon of biting into a meal you expect to be mediocre at the end of a hard day but finding it’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever tasted]

[...?]

[He cocks his head, full himbo]

[R] “...Your villain name is Fade… I’m not the smartest guy but sheesh… I didn't forget in two minutes.”

[...Interesting]

[R] “I-I, um… I apologize for beating your brother’s ass.”

[Damien groans from the ground]

[Pause]

[R] “Your grace is noted, as well as your beautiful eyes- FUCK. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. I AM SETTING YOU DOWN NOW. THANK YOU FOR A GREAT FIGHT. I WILL GET YOUR NUMBER LATER SO MAYBE WE CAN - GODAMNIT, I SHOULDN’T BE SHOUTING THIS PART BUT I CAN’T TURN IT OFF. OK… BYE.”

[He hurries off, even the tips of his ears red]

[VICTOR: ‘FADE’!]

[SFX: The crowd cheering]

[You help your brother up and he groans weakly]

[D] “Ow… Please tell me you aren’t thinking of flirting with the guy who made me see all seventy-four of our villainous ancestors briefly?”

[Pause…]

[D, curious] “He remembered you…? Interesting…”

[SFX: Fade out on the crowd cheering]
