Summary: You're secretly into witchcraft, and you live with a roommate who bullies you constantly. When she finds your book of spells, she jokingly uses a hypnosis spell on you, leaving you under her control, much to her surprise. She begins giving you commands, but her plans slowly turn from sinister to slightly wholesome as she confesses that she has a crush on you.

[pause]

[mischievously] Oh nothing, just catching up on some reading.

[pause]

[sarcastically, like she’s taunting the listener] Oh this book? Is this yours? I just saw it on the coffee table and thought I’d give it a little skim. [chuckles] Now that you mention it, it does look exactly like the kind of thing a freak like you would read.

[pause]

You want this back? Sorry, I’m not done reading it.

[pause]

Geez, why are you so serious about this? Do you actually believe in this witchy stuff?

[pause]

[sarcastically] Oh, this is a *real* spellbook? [chuckles] So if I flip to a random page and say one of these spells out loud, is the furniture gonna start floating or something?

[flips the pages]

I think I like the one on this page. Let’s see what happens when I say…

[echo effect applied] SOMNOLENTUS.

[pause]

See? Nothing happened.

[pause]

Why are you just staring at me like that?

[pause]

[snaps fingers a few times in front of the listener’s face] Hello? Anyone home?

[pause]

What was that spell even supposed to do? [sound of page turning. She begins reading the book quietly to herself] “The somnolentus spell when uttered will place the target in a deep hypnotic trance, leaving him or her under the control of the spellcaster…”

So… what? Are you supposed to be hypnotized or something?

[pause]

[Still skeptical] Fine then. If you’re really hypnotized, then take off your clothes.

[pause]

[taken aback] Woah, woah, woah, are you actually doing it?

[pause]

Okay, um. Either you’re really dedicated to the bit, or you’re actually hypnotized.

[pause]

What am I saying? There’s no way you’re *actually* hypnotized. This stupid spellbook doesn’t work. Let me find another spell to test.

[flipping through pages]

Here. This one’s supposed to make it storm outside. PROFER TONITRUUM.

[She yelps as thunder immediately crashes outside and startles her. The sound of rain hitting the window outside slowly fades in]

[In disbelief] No way. There… there wasn’t a cloud in the sky all day today.

[pause]

Does this mean… you’re actually hypnotized?

[pause]

[starts laughing] No way! [devilish tone] Looks like I can make you do anything…

[pause]

Okay, roomie. From now on, call me “master.” [casually-overthinking tone] Or… wait. Would “mistress” be the feminine version of that? Or is “master,” like, gender neutral? Let’s just stick with “mistress” for now.

So anytime I tell you to do something, you’ll respond with “yes mistress.” Got it?

[pause]

[laughs] That’s so creepy… and a little kinky.

[pause]

[whispering to herself, coming to a realization] Wait. This is *your* book. You’ve had it on your shelf for a few weeks already… [slightly angry] Tell the truth. Have you ever hypnotized me before?

[pause]

[angry] You scumbag! You’ve been hypnotizing me without me knowing? How often do you do that?

[pause]

Every night?! What do you hypnotize me into doing?

[pause]

You’ll have to be more specific than just saying “lots of things.”

[pause]

[calm and surprised] You… made me quit smoking? That’s why I was finally able to stop after all those years of trying to quit?

[pause]

What else did you hypnotize me for?

[pause]

And you got me to start going to the gym?

[pause]

So you’re telling me that you just hypnotized me to help me out? Is that it?

[pause]

[bewildered] Well… I mean… Thank you, I guess. [Trying to still be angry] Still, I didn’t give you permission to do any of that. I don’t want you messing with my head.

[pause]

[sighs] This is why no one likes you. You’re too nice to everyone, and you’re all weird about it. [begrudgingly admitting this next part] And you’re probably the prettiest person I’ve ever met. It’s like you’re everything I’m insecure about. Your hair… your clothes… your body… everything. It’s like you don’t even try to be so cool and yet you’re… you’re so much more put together than me.

[pause]

To tell you the truth… I think I…

[tone suddenly shifts to something less heartfelt and much more casual] Wait. You’re not going to remember any of this, right? I don’t wanna just let you know about my inner feelings or whatever.

[pause]

Okay, good. [Back to the previous heartfelt tone] I was just saying that… I think I like you. I didn’t want to admit that I like girls, and I normally don’t, but… for some reason, I like you a lot.

[pause]

[groans] It sucks. I have a boyfriend and everything. Why’d you have to be so beautiful and ruin everything?

[pause]

Stop. That was a rhetorical question, idiot.

[pause]

I don’t know how long this hypnotic trance of yours is supposed to last. Maybe you’ll wake up soon, but… until then… I already have you naked, so… can we just take it a step further and… make out?

[pause]

[whispering] Come on. Kiss me.

[kissing noises]

[whispering] Let’s get on your bed.

[more kissing sounds as they lay down on the listener’s bed]

[speaking between kisses] You know, I’m starting to realize that hypnosis is kinda hot. There’s a kind of intimacy in being under someone’s control, or being in control of someone. So… if you ever want to play with my mind a little bit, you have my permission. [chuckles] We can try some of the other spells in that book of yours to spice things up a bit. I think I saw a spell in there that ties someone up. [giggles] But anyway…

[pause]

Do you mind if I ask you something?

[pause]

Do you… have a crush on me, too?

[pause]

[sighs happily] No way. I thought for sure I screwed up my chances with how I’ve treated you these past few months.

[pause]

Wait. Are you into being bullied or something?

[pause]

[chuckles] Okay then. Maybe I won’t be so nice to you.

[pause]

Well… in the morning, I’ll tell you how I feel… for *real* this time, and not while you’re hypnotized or anything. Then… maybe we can actually make out.

[pause]

Until then… we can kiss and cuddle until we fall asleep together. Okay?

[chuckles] Then let’s keep going.

[kissing sounds continue, gradually slowing down and being replaced by rhythmic, sleepy breathing]
