Context: You've found an incredible deal on an apartment and just moved in! It's so exciting to have your own place, and you're just getting settled in on this night. Sure, it's not the best neighborhood. Sure, the landlord mentioned some crime, but you're not too bothered. After all, what's the worst that could happen? A werewolf mob boss is what happened. You saved the pureblood werewolf known as Fane and he thanked you. You thought that was the last time you'd see him. You were wrong. And wrong again. And now he's invited you to a mobster gala as his date tonight. And, again... you were wrong.

[Scene opens in the Listener’s apartment]

[SFX: A phone ringing]

[You’re woken early by your phone buzzing and quickly check: not work, don’t care]

[Pause…]

[Not your work because the ID clearly reads: ‘Asshole Suit Wolf’]

[Pause!]

[SFX: The call being answered]

[Pause???]

[F] “...ah… Hey, Doll… It’s… Yeah, it’s Fane.”

[Pause…]

[F, with a sigh] “I know it’s been six months since we last spoke… Look, I fucked up. I fucked up bad, and… I don’t know who else I trust to talk to about this… if you’ll have me?”

[...]

[F] “I know! I know. I’m a giant, hairy butthole. The biggest! But this ain’t about me, right now, this is about Xavier…”

[...]

[F] “...Yeah. The kid that tried to shoot up our meeting. Turns out, he was set up. We all were… I finally got the whole truth out of him a few weeks ago and we realized. Now, I have a broken kid on my hands with a missing sibling, a missing best friend, no support system, and benching an impressive drug problem… And I don’t know how to help him.”

[...]

[F] “Yeah, I got him in rehab to get the drugs out already… But they’re not going to be able to help him…”

[Pause…?]

[He hesitates before quietly admitting:]

[F] “I know because they’re the same drugs I take. They’re meant to help control aggression and mania for folks like me that are basically bred to be pissed off constantly. I don’t know who got this poor bastard hooked on them, but humans ain’t meant to take ‘em. Not ever! It does the polar opposite and makes you folks as aggressive as feral dogs!”

[...Pause?]

[Fane sighs]

[F] “I’ve tried to get him to open up… He won’t do it. Not for me. I don’t know what it is, but men freak Xavier out for one reason or another. He don’t trust his own gender unless they talk soft, and, unfortunately, we’re both massive dicks, figuratively and literally. The only people he really trusts are gentle people with gentle voices like you, man or not…”

[. . .]

[F, actually sounding remorseful] “...I know I have no right to ask after what I did… How I just dumped you without any further explanation.”

[Pause???]

[He laughs that smug fucking laugh. You missed it]

[F] “Oh, we so WERE dating, like it or not~. I wouldn’t bring anyone less to meet the mobsters ruling over America…”

[Pause~]

[F] “Eheh, yeah… I missed you, too, Doll… Can I send the limo over to get you?”

[Pause?]

[F] “You may absolutely punch me in the gut the second you see my dumb, stupid, handsome wolf face, hehe! Enh… I missed you so much.”

[... Pause <3]

[He hesitates for a moment before he quietly says:]

[F] “...I ain’t gonna say I love you over the phone… cause I ain’t said it to your face yet.”

[Pause???]

[For the first time in forever, you can hear him pouting over the phone]

[F] “HEY! Moaning it in Portuguese don’t count! And you weren’t complaining while I was making you whimper, so shut your mouth…”

[Pause~]

[F] “You can ‘doth protest too much’ my knot, biscuit-ass! The limo will be over in an hour, fuck you! I love you!”

[Pause <3]

[F] “FUCK YOU, I DIDN’T MEAN-!”

[Your call with Fane drops there. An hour will give him time to think about it]

Scene Change - Fane’s Manor

[Two hours later, you are delivered to the manor. Fane is already out on the porch, arms folded across his broad chest]

[SFX: The limo delivering Doll]

[F] “Hey… Waited on the porch for you.”

[Pause.]

[You look at each other for a moment before embracing. It’s incredibly odd to feel Fane being so gentle, but it’s nice]

[F] “Hey…”

[Pause…]

[F] “...When the fuck did we fall in love…?”

[Pause~]

[Fane chuckles]

[F] “When we started ‘dating’. Yeah, alright, fair, hmhm… Come on in… and mentally brace yourself, the kid don’t look great…”

[Pause…]

[F] “Yeah, I’m surprised I’m trying to help him, too, sweetheart…”

[He side-eyes you, though it is playful]

[F] “Almost like some goody-goody got into my head and mixed me up, isn’t it?”

[SFX: Doll lightly punching Fane in the gut]

[F] “Oof! Hey! Rrgh… You get ONE free hit on me. One. And that was it. Got it?”

[Pause <3]

[F] “Yeah, yeah… Here’s his room. Hang on…”

[SFX: A few knocks]

[Xavier lets out a weak grunt and Fane opens the door after taking a breath. The young man is borderline skeletal, eyes on nothing]

[Pause…]

[X] “...who are you?”

[F] “This is my partner, Xavier… They just wanted to say hi.”

[The young man looks at you and you offer a smile. His eyes linger on your lips and he looks pained]

[Pause…?]

[X] “...your smile… like my little one…”

[F] “You have a kid…?”

[X] “...my… my sibling…”

[Xavier stares at nothing in particular]

[Pause?]

[X] “Where are they…? I-I… I don’t…”

[His voice catches and tears spill down his cheeks]

[X] “...It’s my fault… It’s all my fault…”

[Pause…?]

[X] “...Little One got shot… They say that they died from it, but they never let me see the body! And now my best friend won’t even tell me anything… They’re still alive, I know it! But… if they don’t want to see me anymore… I must have done something awful, right…? I must have…”

[Pause…]

[X, sniffling] “I know there can be a lot of different reasons… but Little One and Wes are the only family I had… There’s nothing else… Someone has to know something but no one listens to you in this fucking unless you’re violent!”

[Pause…]

[Fane sighs, looking away with his arms folded]

[F] “...He’s not right but he ain’t wrong either… Is that all you want, kid? Just to know your sibling and buddy are alive?”

[Xavier freezes up but manages to nod]

[Pause]

[F] “...Yeah, OK. That’s a lead. I can work with that. Thanks, Xavi.”

[X] “...Can I go back to sleep now, please?”

[Pause]

[The young man nods in exhaustion and lies back down, curling in the fetal position as he trembles]

[SFX: Doll and Fane exiting the room]

[Fane lets out a long sigh as you shut the door behind him]

[F] “...All the kid wanted was his fucking family… Just to know they’re OK… And I nearly put him under…” ‘

[Pause…]

[F] “Enh, don’t treat me like I have any good in me, Doll… I don’t. I’m just another addict trying to help some kid not sink as low as he has…”

[...Pause?]

[F] Doll, I CAN’T stop taking it. If I do, it’ll take one bad interaction with a human before I’d start tearing innocents apart… I’m a royal-blooded wolf, sweetheart. Built to be the best werewolf... not the best werewolf trying to fit in with polite society…”

[...]

[F, gentle] “...There’s nothing you can do for me, sweetheart… Training yourself not to fucking murder indiscriminately is borderline impossible for someone like me…”

[Pause-!]

[F] “I know you want to help… I know… For right now, you’ve done more than enough by getting Xavier to open up enough to where I might be able to actually help him out.”

[Pause…]

[F] “...How’s about you stay the night, huh? I’ve…”

[He grumbles]

[F] “...I’ve missed you a lot…”

[...Pause <3]

[He smiles, though it’s bittersweet]

[F] “Glad to hear it! We’ll put on those silly reality shows you like, order in, and make a night of it! Maybe, ahm… a little quieter than our usual nights, hm? Not that I don’t appreciate getting blackout drunk with you and all, but you never finish any of your stories when we do that…”

[Pause???]

[He blushes. You think.]

[F] “Yes, I want actually to hear your stories! Any guy can have similar consideration when he’s not pining to get in your pants, ya know.”

[Pause <3]

[F] “Oh? Oh, well if it’s earning me brownie points, then I am the only man on Earth that listens. Mmhm, yep. Quite the catch!”

[Pause <3]

[He chuckles and puts a big ol’ arm around your shoulders]

[F] “Yeah, yeah… I’m fond of you, too, Doll… Best enjoy it while it lasts, too, cause I ain’t letting you settle for a drug addict… Understand?”

[...]

[F] “Yeah… I’m not arguing about it. C’mon, let’s go enjoy what we can while it lasts…”

[Pause…]

[You go to settle in for the night with him. It’s bittersweet, as are most things with Fane Sangrados]

[SFX: Fade out on the TV switching on to whatever royalty-free show of your choosing]
