Context: In the timeless forest, you have long since stood. A maiden who rules the forest in a leaf-like hood. The forest is yours, you are predator and prey. Yet, you are sorely missing one thing, even to this day. You want one thing but must await... The old wolf, no young, that would bring about your Fate.

[E] = The werewolf Elder

[W] = Angus, the old wolf now young

*Any italics is Angus speaking from memory*

[Scene opens in a forest, lost to time and isolation]

[SFX: The general goings about of werewolf villagers]

[On a werewolf village ravaged by war, the Elder surveys those still in the fields. His ancient voice calls out to those nearby:]

[E] “Where is Angus, then? He wandered out into the forest days ago…”

[No one has an answer for him]

[E, swearing under his breath] “...Well… He was damned near as old as I am… Perhaps he went out to finally meet his end.”

[W] “Actually… I would say I ventured out to find a new beginning.”

[The Elder jumps and whips around, fury fading to disbelief immediately]

[E] “Angus, you old f-... What in the name of the celestials?! You’re…”

[Angus smiles peacefully]

[W] “Young! Haha, I know! Told you I was fairly handsome back in my younger years, eh, Elder?”

[The Elder stares at him in confusion]

[E] “...What sorcery have you embraced for such a boon…? You know we aren’t to engage with non-werewolves! No one has magic here!”

[Angus smiles at him mysteriously and simply says:]

[W] “The being that gave me this boon is no human, elf, or even Fae. She has been here for as long as the trees have grown, and one may know her only by completing her three trials. The Trial of the Predator, the Trial of the Prey, the Trial of my Aspect, and an answer to a riddle as old as time.”

[Pause…]

[SFX: A foreboding wind, if desired]

[E, scared] “...The Lady of the Forest…”

[Angus taps his snout]

[W] “Correct.”

[E] “B-But no one has ever completed those trials! To conquer the greatest beast in the forest, to catch the toughest prey, then to face your own internal, ravenous wolf??? How in the moon did you survive, Angus?!”

[The now young wolf shrugs his shoulders]

[W] “Exceptional luck and a lot of stupidity and elbow grease… The riddle was the hardest bit, even though the whole question was: ‘What is it I want most’?”

[His voice echoes from memory]

Hear me, my Lady! I have done your trials, and I have thought on the final riddle you left: what is it you truly want? I believe I know! No… I am certain that I know what your innermost desire is…

[SFX: The Lady creeping closer]

[...]

…If you hear me, my Lady, my answer is this: you desire love!

[SFX: The forest stirring]

[The old wolf pauses but shows no fear]

… In each trial, you revealed different sides of yourself. Your playfulness in the first, your cruelty in the second, and your intellect in the last. You want someone to know you before they ever even entertain the thought of looking at you… Am I right?

[SFX: The forest quieting ominously]

[In the present, the village elder looks at him in horror]

[E] “...That… You are insane! The Lady of the Forest is not to be trifled with nor disturbed! Even if she gave you your youth back, who knows what she has taken in exchange!”

[W] “You’ll be pleased to know that we came to a mutually beneficial agreement.”

[SFX: The forest stirring]

[E] “...What in the gods’ name did you do?!”

[Once more, the memories of the now young wolf speak from the past:]

…It’s alright… I understand, now… Heh, it’s so cute that you’re so shy…. You are the most powerful being there is, and you are shy…”

[...]

[He smiles and you don’t know whether to kill him or…]

…You do not need to feel embarrassed, my Lady! Your trials showed me everything and, now, just feeling your presence… I know I love you. Even if you strike me down, I’d be honored to see any form you would show me… But, I must ask one last time… was I correct…? Was the answer ‘love’?

[SFX: The forest waking up in an ominous flurry as the Lady makes her entrance]

[You clear the brush around you and step before the insolent werewolf. Your wide horns pass through the trees, blossoming rapidly in different flowers as you stop, staring him down]

[W] “...She appeared after that little taunt, hehe. Near pissed myself, not going to lie…”

[E, concerned] “What… what did it… look like?”

[W] “Gods, you can’t imagine… Imagine the most beautiful human or elf you’ve ever seen, multiply it by infinity, dressed in a floral robe with these wide horns… They passed through everything and bloomed constantly. Her hair was long and bloomed as well… Hmhm, my favorite was her expression. Her eyes glowed with such menace, but they were wide, as though she were baffled! Her eyebrows were raised so high and her lips were parted slightly… Either she couldn’t think of what to say or she was fighting the urge to eat me.”

[E] “W-What-?”

[W] “Oh, I nearly lost that gambit. That expression made me so dopey that I murmured, ‘You’re so cute’ and, heh, she let out this noise that was half crow caw and half bear roar. Knew I’d messed up, immediately dropped to the ground…”

[E] “You can’t do that! If you bow your head to a demon, it can do damn near anything with no repercussions! That’s why they tell you a demon asking for help finding their glasses is full of shit!”

[W, calm] “With respect, I had pushed too hard and I needed her to understand that I was being sincere.”

[He pauses, bitter]

[W] “Besides… It’s not like I had anything to lose… The war with the humans took… everything from me. But you knew that already.”

[Pause…]

[The Elder makes a few disgruntled noises but says nothing in response]

[W] “...To finish the story, I waited to see what she’d do… Seemed like an eternity as this cosmic being towered over me. Then, she just… put her hand on my head, and before I could even wince, well… I was young again.”

[E] “Good lord… How did it feel?”

[Pause]

[W] “Hmm… Like waking up from a bittersweet dream. I was grateful to her, of course. Immensely so. I sobbed like a child, long story short… Heh. She seemed so taken aback that someone was grateful for what, to her, must have been so simple and unremarkable. She never spoke with her mouth but we communicated through, I believe, thought. Her questions seemed innocent… ‘Who are you?’. ‘What do you want?’. I explained myself - old wolf trying one last time to make the world better before his time comes. ‘Why does the world need to be better?’ she asked.”

[E] “An interesting point…”

[W] “I explained how our kind has suffered for generations now and how everyone is too afraid to fight back.”

[E, mutely horrified] “...what did she say in return?”

[Pause]

[W] “... She said, ‘I see’.”

[The Elder pauses, as though waiting for more… but gets nothing]

[Pause]

[E] “...and then?”

[The now young wolf tilts his head back slightly, eyes almost dreamlike]

[W] “A song rose from her, though her lips never moved. The words were incomprehensible but… as she sang, the forest woke. Creatures emerged in formation, like they were prepared for war, and every so often a chant would ring out from them… She was offering them in exchange for one thing…”

[E] “That being…?!”

[SFX: The rising song and chant, if desired. Note: This character has a full suite of commercially licensed music! This is her song and this is her ‘Serene theme’ and this is the Song of the Forest]

[The song rises around the village. The other wolves stop in their tracks, glancing about as the quiet night is overtaken by the song of the forest]

[W] “Simple. She wanted a husband, and I was more than happy to oblige.”

[He tilts his head back over his right shoulder]

[W] “Wasn’t I, dearest?”

[You snake an arm under his and wrap it around his chest, peering over his shoulder. The old wolf in front of you gawps and panic breaks out all around the two of you]

[E] “You brought the Lady of the Forest here?!”

[SFX: Panic of an appropriate level]

[W] “Of course. Where else does one take their bride?”

[The Elder takes a few steps and then bolts away, howling in panic:]

[E] “TO YOUR HOMES! BOARD YOUR WINDOWS AND PROTECT THE PUPS!”

[SFX: Further chaos]

[Angus watches this, nonchalant, before he turns his head back toward you]

[W] “Don’t worry, they’ll warm up to you, in time. Shall we?”

[You take his arm as he leads you to his cozy little cabin. He opens the door for you - such a gentleman~]

[Pause <3]

[W] “You’re most welcome, love. Let’s get you settled in, hm?”

[SFX: Fade out on the cabin door shutting and the panic slowly fading out]

Note: The Lady of the Forest, for those interested, could hold her own against most Earth-based Listeners, even X, Mipsy, and the Lord of Lost. She could not fight anyone from Dimension X and she, surprisingly, would struggle with the Priestess. It is up to you to determine any theories from that.
