Context: Apparently, you were once married to the madman who keeps you prisoner in his home. The Alchemist, they call him, and he certainly does live up to that title, along with many more. 'Lunatic' might be the one that you would use, but... you're too weak to escape and he is pleading for a chance to help you remember. What can you do but obey?
Setting: A small, Medieval town

[A] = The Alchemist
[Scene opens in a small, Medieval town, outside of a closed shop]
[M2] āHoy, Michael! Been a while! Back in your fancy royal garb, too!ā
[M1] āHoy, Karlin! Aye, got sent over to deliver a decree to the Alchemist but, ahā¦ā
[M2, sympathetic] āHard man to find these days, I know.ā
[M1] āDamnā¦ The Alchemist hasnāt had his shop open in months, eitherā¦ā
[M2] āWaitā¦ Did you not hear what happened? Poor manās wife was murdered by a thief who came to rob the place in the dead of night!ā
[M1, sadly] āOh noā¦ He always called her his āDoveā, right? Poor manā¦ā
[M2] āAye, the townās made sure heās kept fed and all, butā¦ I think he lost his mind the moment he found her body. I wasnāt far behind him when it happened. I was helping him unload his carriage when I heard him screamā¦ You donātā¦ hear a man scream like that unless youāve taken everything from himā¦ā
[M1] āPerhaps Iāll catch him come morning, thenā¦ I hate to disturb his mourning but you know King Iridis can be.ā
[M2, annoyed] āA right fanny, aye.ā
[M1] āThe King has sent a bunch of other guards out this way but it seems like they all got sidetracked. No one in town has seen any of our men come through.ā
[M2] āNoā¦ Canāt say I have. If any come through, Iāll tell āem youāve already arrived to do their job for āem, eh?ā
[M1, with a laugh] āAppreciate it. Look, I know the Alchemist is said to be a wise, stoic man and all, so he might not be showing his grief outwardlyā¦ I hope heāll let me offer condolencesā¦ā
[M2] āAh, Iām sure he will, lad. Heās always been a good, honorable man, donāt you worry.ā

POV Transition: The Alchemist
ā----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Scene re-opens in the Achemistās home]
[SFX: Ominous dripping liquid/him adjusting the Listener]
[A] āThere we are, my bride, there we areā¦ Ohā¦ Look at you, standing on your own, even in that heavy wedding gown I had made for youā¦ā
[...]
[He stands and backs across the room]
[A] āAlright, let me back over to the other side of the room, alright? Then, I want you to try and walk to me, my Dove. Can you try for me, darling?ā
[...]
[He lets out a manic laugh at your silence]
[A] āBrilliant! Alrightā¦ Try, sweetheartā¦ My arms are open, just walk to me. No rush!ā
[SFX: Slow, labored steps - VAās discretion on length]
[A, breathless] āComeā¦ Come, nowā¦ You can do itā¦ā
[SFX: Another painful, laborious step]
[A, manic] āYes, yes-!ā ā
[SFX: The Listener falling]
[A] āNO!!!ā
[He bounds forward and manages to catch you]
āGhh!... Oh, thankā¦ thank heavens I caught youā¦ Oh, darlingā¦ā
[...]
[A] āShh, donāt apologizeā¦ Itās so hard, Dove, I know. Your soul was yanked from your body and I had to crystallize it to keep you from rotting, ohā¦ I knowā¦ You are in pain. Iām whipping up a potion now to help with that, alright?ā
[He holds you close, shaking]
[A] āHaā¦ hahaā¦ I thinkā¦ watching you fall gave me a heart attackā¦ Good thing I have a stolen spell or two to counter that little nuisance, hm?ā
[...]
[A] āOh, I knowā¦ I know it hurts, my love, but I will fix it, alright? Itās on top of my list, I swear! Even above dispose of those guardās bodiesā¦ā
[...]
[A] ā...Dove. They would have taken you away from me. Had you burned alive like youāre an abomination! You are NO kind of abomination! So you died for a few hours, WHO HASNāT?! Youāre still the love of my life, my bride, the one tether to my ever-distant humanityā¦ You are no kind of abomination to me.ā
[He kisses your forehead, shaking subtly]
[A] ā...I slipped once, yes. I lost you briefly, like two lovers cast into the sea, but I found your hand again, did I not? Same as when we metā¦ We were both at that festival, lost in the crowd, looking for the idiots that had dragged us thereā¦ and then you took my hand and said, āPerhaps we should shout for our idiots together?ā, haha! R-Remember?ā
[Pauseā¦]
[He pauses as you utter your first word in some time]
[A] āWhyā¦? Oh. The cannibalism, I assume?ā
[...]
[You manage a nod]
[A] āI am an Alchemist, my loveā¦ while alchemy can do many things, interacting with the dead is not one. That is necromancy and, wellā¦ one must prove themselves to those of the carrion. Eating your fallen enemies is, ehmā¦. Hazing, as they might put it.ā
[...]
[A] ā...You know, itās really not that bad. Somewhat like saltless beef, I would say.ā
[...]
[He lets out a manic giggle at your look]
[A] āSorry, sorryā¦ Same sense of macabre humorā¦ You did fall in love with it, though, hmhmā¦ with meā¦ā
[P-Pauseā¦?]
[A, gentle] āYou are not rotting. I promise. The pain you feel right now is from stiffness and reanimation, not decomposition.ā
[...]
[A] āWhatās that? Something about an āinteresting pastā?ā
[You nod]
[Your husband gives you a mischievous but tired smile]
[A] āI did tell you, when we met, Iām part Fae. I blame that for how often I used to get into trouble. Stealing pirate ships, planting royal gems on people, learning forbidden arts to spook the nunsā¦ and then I met you.ā
[...]
[A, quiet and definitely unhinged] āYouāll remember more fully soon. Alright? You love me just as much as I love you, if not more so. You are my life link andā¦ I donāt know what Iād do without you..ā
[Pauseā¦]
[A] āI knowā¦ My poor Doveā¦ I worked briefly as an assassin before, so Iād ended people with blades a good bit. I never left them alive, obviously. Despite it making me a hypocrite, I didnāt want them to sufferā¦ Coming home to you as you were in that stateā¦ hearing you weakly cry my name, apologizing with your last bit of strengthā¦ I will never forget that moment.ā
[Pause]
[He smiles sweetly]
[A] āIām fine, my Dove, hahaā¦ Iām fine. Here, the potion should be done settling now. You drink up while I go feed our intrusive friends here to Griffin. That was the deal after allā¦ Heāll be pleased to see you when youāre feeling better as well.ā
[...]
[A] āMmh, that sounds like a potion not being drunkā¦ā
[SFX: A potion shakily being drunk]
[A] āOh, good girl. It makes me happy to see you hold up the bottle. Right, off to do disposal. You like there and rest until I get back, OK? Iā¦ I donāt think I can see you on the floor againā¦ā
[...Pause]
[He smiles that terrifying smile once more]
[A] āWonderful, thank you, dearest. Rest well~ā.
[You have no choice. You can only lie still to try and sense if the pain is your rotting or something much worseā¦]
[SFX: Fade out on the Alchemist humming and/or a general alchemy lab]
[To be continued?]
