[K] = King Markus, your father

[L] = Lucretius the Lich

[Scene opens at a royal celebration]

[SFX: Fanfare/music/and cheering]

[Your father, the King of Glimmerial, stands before an adoring crowd, smiling at your subjects]

[K] “It is my greatest honor to present the heir to my throne, a face and name beloved by all, my eldest.”

[Pause]

[You wave and the crowd cheers again]

[K] “Today, they have officially come of an age where they may marry and bring further prosperity to our beautiful land. We are proud to welcome a new part of the monarchy, and look forward to seeing what suitors might come forward for their hand.”

[Pause…]

[K, hesitating] “Please, enjoy the festivities and celebration, our good people. I must attend the star of the show.”

[Your father hurriedly guides you to sit as the crowd cheers from outside]

[K] “What is it? Do you need water?”

[Pause…]

[K] “Your… heart hurts?”

[Pause…]

[Your father sighs]

[K] “It has been years since you lost your memory, my dear… And still, you get these melancholy moods and headaches…”

[Pause…?]

[K, darkly] “I assure you, again, that I know nothing of what happened… If I did, the person responsible for your pain would suffer immensely for it.”

[...]

[Your father rests a hand on your shoulder]

[K] “...I know you feel as though part of you is missing, my dear. I know… but I assure you, that pain will fade once you are wed. You will have the company of a wonderful new companion, trained to be a ruler, same as you! You will feel better then…”

[A haunting voice calls from outside, loud enough you can hear it clearly:]

[L] “When will your lies cease, King Markus?! It has taken me years, but I will see your name unmade for the crimes you committed against me!”

[SFX: People screaming/panicking and swirling dark magic]

[K] “What in the Seven Hells?!”

[SFX: The King and Listener rushing to the balcony]

[You race to the balcony and see your people panicking with a very evident reason why. A hooded-man floats above the crowd, dark magic emanating from him]

[K] “It’s… It’s a damned Lich! Archers!”

[L] “No, I think not.”

[SFX: More dark magic]

[Before you can blink, the Lich is before you in a flash of dark magic. Painful stitches cross his mottled flesh and his eyes burn with unholy light]

[P-Pause!]

[L, surprisingly gentle] “I mean you no harm, your highness… Gods, look at how you’ve grown in the years I’ve been away…”

[K, furious] “Back away from them, you undead monstrosity!”

[Pause?!]

[K] “N-No, I don’t know this monster! You think I keep time with something as disgusting as a Lich?!”

[Pause!]

[The strange man’s voice breaks, laced with malice and pain]

[L, agonized] “Tell your child the truth, Markus! Or must I shame you again, hm?!”

[..Pause?]

[You turn to your father, to the King of this great kingdom, and he can’t meet your gaze]

[Pause…?]

[K] “...Do not listen to him. He is a crazy man spewing lies.”

[L, with a snarl] “Confound your pride! If you haven’t the spine to do it yourself, then I will tell them. I respect them enough to do that.”

[K, furious] “You will not take one step nearer-!”

[SFX: A spell being cast - the outside noise being muted]

[The stranger flicks his hand and an orb of energy surrounds you both. You are trapped with him…]

[...]

[L, taking a step toward you] “I would see no harm done to you, your highness. Not then, and not now.”

[SFX: Him moving closer/the Listener moving away]

[L, practically pleading] “Please… Please don’t run from me… I can’t stand it, the sight of you looking at me as if I could ever wish you harm! I…”

[He stops and takes a breath, steadying himself]

[L] “...Before you forgot everything… we were lovers. I hope the thought doesn’t repulse you too much, now… My new form leaves much to be desired, I know. I looked much different before I was banished to Az’terin…”

[...Pause?]

[He smiles sadly, acrid tears rolling down his face]

[L] “Yes, very good… It is the seventh Hell. Your father banished me there because he learned I was training you to use your own magical gift. When he realized that we were together, he decided a public beheading was too good and had another wizard send me to a place of eternal suffering. I wager he had the same man wipe your memories of me…”

[...]

[He sighs and bows his head]

[L] “...I can prove it. You know enough about true names to know how much power they hold, yes?”

[Pause]

[SFX: [K] rallying other guards to try and break the orb]

[L] “Good. I gave you my true name long ago when we first kissed in the form of a ring. My ring.”

[...?]

[SFX: The Listener’s necklace jingling]

[L] “Yes. The very ring you wear on a chain around your neck. Your father, no doubt, invented some lie about it… but it is mine. When in my presence and the presence of someone I cherish, you will see my name reflected on the inside of the band. Speak it… and you will know the truth in your heart, even if you can’t remember…”

[...]

[SFX: Dark magic whispers]

[You read the name in the band without hesitation, despite your father and the guards trying to get to you]

[SFX: Dark magic crackling gently]

[L, with a slight groan] “I bid your call, my love, as Lucretius the Pure.”

[...]

[A wave of emotion hits you that makes no sense and perfect sense at the same time]

[L, bowing] “...I apologize for my appearance now… I was gone for so long… Time is so different there… I…Ah…?”

[He freezes as you tilt his head up to look at you]

[L] “My love… You tilt my head up so I may look upon you…?”

[...Pause <3]

[L] “...You truly wish to keep your vows to me, even though you don’t remember our life before?”

[Pause…<3]

[His eyes light up]

[L] “Who else could love you more than a man that came back from Hell for you? Oh, love…”

[He draws you into an embrace, desperate and grateful for your touch]

[L] “I knew… I knew there was a chance… but I shouldn’t blather on while your father is trying to murder me. If you are certain, my salvation… Then I will take you from this place to your new home where you may live as you please, so long as you are mine.”

[Pause <3]

[L] “You make me a happy Lich, my dearest, kindest love. Wave farewell to your father, dearest. We shan’t be seeing him again.”

[You don’t bother]

[SFX: Dark magic - teleport]

[K] “Damnit, STOP HIM-!”

[You’re long gone]

[K] “Where…? WHERE HAS HE TAKEN THEM?!?”

[SFX: Fade out on panic/shouting melting into an encroaching thunderstorm]

Note: For those concerned, Lucretius doesn’t look super duper corpsy or anything. He is very pale, has some stitching in places, and has eyes with black sclera. If anything, the most uncomfortable-looking part of him is that he always has chapped-looking lips. Corpse-like, if you will.
