[Scene opens up with the courts meeting with the king]

[SFX: Finger tapping]

"*Sigh* I know all of you are probably wanting me to go out there and meet someone. If it's all the same to you, would you mind if I at least properly mourn the loss of my parents first?"

[They mention why their doing it]

"I know, civic duties and all. I do however think my people will understand if I don't go to this "Ball" that you decided to set up for me."

[Pause]

"*Sigh* Maybe I should just call it off."

[The courts protest the decision]

"Would you prefer I end up as a balling mess in the middle of the ballroom floor? I mean seriously guys, I just said my final goodbyes to my parents two days ago."

[Pause]

"I just...I just need time to grieve is all."

[They talk amounts themselves]

"I'm not saying "No" Entirely to finding a suitor or to the ball. I just need time."

[Pause]

"Please, I beg of you. Just let me grieve in peace."

[They discuss an unanimously agree]

"Thank you. I do appreciate it."

[They leave the chambers as you enter the room]

[SFX: Armor clanking]

"*Sigh* If only I could just have a moment alone. Forgive me, Knight. I just don't want to have to deal with this. Not right now."

[The knight kneels]

"Please Knight, just leave me be."

[Pause]

"Are you deaf or something. I said, LEAVE ME ALONE!"

[He starts towing stuff at you in a feat of rage, missing every shot]

"*Heavy breathing* It's bad enough that my parents assigned you-"

[He starts to yell again]

"ON THEIR DEATHBEDS, to be my personal...bodyguard. I...I just can't right now."

[Pause]

"Ever the stoic one eh? Well, since I am your king now. Could you at least respond to me?"

[You look up and in your best male impression ask what does he want?]

"So, you do talk. Well for starters, it's really distracting to talk to you with that helmet on. Most knight who are in the presence of the king remove such armor. Please take it off."

[You state it's captain's orders not to remove it]

"The captain's orders?! I am your king, I outrank him."

[You state it was also a request from your parents]

"Of course they would request that. Is there any way you could reconsider?"

[You shake your head]

"Do you think it's wrong of me to cancel the ball?"

[You shake your head again]

"Now, are you saying that because you want to make me feel better or do you genuinely believe that?"

[You say that you genuinely believe that]

"Genuinely believe that. So, your not just another yes man. Could I be blunt and ask you a simple question?"

[You reply with a what?]

"What would it take for me to see your face?"

[You shrug]

"It's just...for once I want someone...anyone to look me in the eyes and tell me if everything will be all right?"

[You ask if that is what he want?]

"I mean, it doesn't have to be those words exactly. Just saying anything will work."

[You ask if he really is ok?]

"No, not really. It seems like everyone wants what's best for the kingdom. Yet, when I ask for a simple moment to mourn my family, it's too much."

[You ask if there is anything you could do?]

"I assume that my parent's provided a caveat for removing your helmet."

[You nod]

"Well, if that's is the case what is it?"

[You say he won't like it]

"*Sigh* Considering how today is going, how could it get any worse?"

[You say the condition]

"So, the only way that you will remove the helmet is if...and only if, I defeat you in a duel. Is that correct?"

[You nod]

"Right. Let's get started."

[You ask what is he talking about]

"Isn't it obvious? Let's do this. The duel."

[You ask him to reconsider]

"If this is the only way you'll look at me directly, than so be it. I assume you want some rules in this duel?"

[You nod]

"Very well, for starters; this isn't a duel to the death. The only way for the victor to be chosen is if the other party submits, or if their opponent can no longer stand on their own two feet."

[SFX: Pulls out sword]

"It's also clear that there will be no marking on the face. I know this is more of a condition on my part, but know if your helmet gets removed; I will honor this condition as well."

[You ask if there is anything else?]

"Indeed there is one other thing; The winning party can demand two things from the winning party. No exceptions."

[You blush a little as you feel really nervous]

"I, of course can only give you what I have. I will also not ask anything that you do not have."

[You say it's a deal]

"Very well. Knight, draw your sword."

[You draw your sword and start dueling with the king]

[SFX: Swords clashing]

"*Inner monologue* So, this guy really is good. I can see why my parent's entrusted him to protect me."

[SFX: Swords clashing]

"By any chance, who was your teacher for this kind of swordsmanship?"

[You say the captain]

"*Laughing* The captain?! Than this should be fun."

[You ask why as you continue to fight him]

"Why? Because I was the one who taught the captain his sword skills."

[You can't believe what you just heard]

"Would you like some proof?"

[Before you could respond he disarms you with a single lunge.]

[SFX: Whooshing sound and a metal sword hitting the floor]

"Do you submit Knight?"

[You shake your head]

"Why must you be so stubborn?"

[You pull a knife but he quickly disarms you]

"A hidden knife? Really? That's the oldest trick in the book. I mean come on."

[You admit defeat]

"Really? Your giving up now?"

[You nod]

"All right, I accept your submission. So, before I get to my request I must ask; do you think it is wrong of me to mourn my parents the way I see fit. and not someone else?"

[You shake your head]

"Now, are you saying no because I am your king and you fear the repercussions or because you genuinely believe it?"

[You say you genuinely believe it]

"I do not mind to help out my kingdom and my people when I know they are suffering. It's just when it comes to grievances it should be up to the individual."

[He walks towards his throne]

"Some choose to mourn the loss of loved one's by simply saying a prayer, others crying. For me...I just need a little time...to put the pieces back together."

[Pause]

"Now for the conditions. I will only ask for one now."

[He sits down]

"Remove your helmet and look me in the eyes."

[You ask in a confused manner "What?"]

"I wish to see the knight I defeated. Face-to-face."

[You agree but ask to not be disappointed]

"It all depends, if your hiding something like say; a battle scar, I won't probe to much into the situation. If however, your hiding your face because you find yourself...how do I say this politely? Ugly, I won't be upset."

[You remove your helmet and your hair flows out of it flowingly]

"*Inner monologue* Wait, my knight is a...girl? And a pretty one at that? Darn it, She probably think's I'm some sort of jerk or stuck up king. *Sigh* guess I have to apologize."

[SFX: Clearing throat]

"I...um...I'm sorry if it was too much for you."

[You say it's fine]

"Is it though? I mean, my parents assign you as my personal guard. I assume you were doing something more...productive with your time."

[You raise an eyebrow]

"I meant that you must of had another assignment lined up for you. No need to think I was going somewhere...dark."

[You say you had no other assignments at the time]

"I see, so you were free to *Clears throat* Volunteer to be my...bodyguard."

[You nod]

"If I may though, there must of been other knights...that could of taken the job. *Under his breath* Or other knights bribing you to switch. *Back to normal* So why did you?"

[Pause]

"...And please don't tell me it was "All in my duty" routine. I know quite well that any knight can back out of such duties if they feel they are not up to the challenge."

[You say you were]

"You say that your up to the challenge...and yet, I bested you."

[He facepalms rubbing his eyes]

"I'm...I'm sorry, if I seem a little rash. I just can't worry about my knights and my own skin at the same time."

[You say than let me protect you]

"Your really determined for this job aren't you?"

[You nod]

"Okay, I'll bite. Why?"

[You ask why what?]

"Why are you so determined to be my bodyguard?"

[You say that you know him]

"You...know me? How?"

[You say that the two of you use to play together]

"Us? Play together?..."

[She tells you a story when you were little]

"*Gasp* Wait, that was you? But...but...I thought you were a-"

[SFX: Sword being pulled from scabbard]

"What I mean to say is...*Sigh* You know what? Just do it. At this point, I am not worthy of being your friend. Let alone your king."

[You get close to him]

"I know it may seem like I'm just a complete mess...it's just."

[You ask if there was anything you could give him]

"Really? Anything?"

[You nod]

"Would it be too much trouble to hug a king?"

[Pause]

"I'm not joking, I could really use a hug."

[You come closer and give the king a hug]

"Thanks, I really needed this."

[You ask if he could promise not to tell anyone.]

"Tell anyone what? That your a girl or that your hugging a king?"

[You say both]

"Both? Well, I don't see any problem with this. If you don't mind delivering a message for me."

[You ask what the message is]

"Just to let both the courts and people that I'm putting a hiatus on the ball. Nothing too long. I only ask for a week."

[You nod]

"Thanks, It means a lot to me you taking the heat and all."

[She goes and walks away]

"Hey, just one more thing. All those times we played back then...and all those times we did...things that you shouldn't do with girls...you were ok with all of that."

[You look in confusion]

"Come on, all the bug catching, fishing, hunting, camping outside, sharing sleeping quarters, and need we forget...swimming by the lakes and little creeks."

[You said it was the happiest times of your life]

"The happiest times you say? Man, I thought I was sad as a prince. If I remember correctly, my parent's had to pay your family to be my friend."

[You say it was still an honor, money or not.]

"Still an honor with the money or not? *Blushes a little* Th-thank you."

[You ask if that is all]

"For now, that will be all."

[You say he still has to cash in those favors at some point]

"Wait, cash in those favors? You mean, you won't count the hug or the removing of the helmet?"

[You nod]

"*Inner monologue* Oh man, could I have actually have hit the jackpot? No. I mustn't think of that, after all. She's just a childhood friend. I wonder if I did anything embarrassing to her? Augh, this is really going to bug me."

[She turns around and walks to you]

"Huh? did...did you forget something?"

[You ask you look forward to serving him]

"Oh...um...I look forward to being protected by you, as well as you serving me."

[Pause]

"*Inner monologue* Ah, you moron! Why would you say that?"

[You start to blush]

"*Clears throat* I...I um...right then. Off you go to deliver that message."

[She leaves]

"*Sits down* Oh, that was a close one. Something tells me it's going to get a lot more hectic around here."

[Fades to black]
