It seems to have turned out quite nicely, and he has a nice night planned out for you both, despite the snowstorm raging outside. You're just looking forward to a drama-free night, for once.

[SFX: Your phone hitting the ground/the water going]

“Oh! Oh no, oh, honey… I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you… Aww, you dropped your phone…”

[He kneels down and starts gathering up the pieces, clucking his tongue]

“I’m sorry, hon… I… Ooh… Sorry, you left your robe open… Mmh…”

[His eyes search you without shame and familiarity that takes you aback]

[P-Pause]

[SFX: The shower going/him picking up the pieces slowly and carefully]

“...What were you doing with your phone out, honey?”

[Pause…]

“Wanted to find some nice music for us? Aww… You’re so sweet. But… you had the door locked, even though I asked you not to. Did you forget again…?”

[Pause]

[He sighs but gives you a warm smile]

“Don’t apologize, it’s OK. I know you get confused about a lot, sometimes. Sometimes, you get confused about who is OK to interact with and who isn’t, in these states. Locking the door behind you in the bathroom is smart, sweetheart, but if you fell and hit your head… I might not be able to get to you, in time. And we don’t even really get cell or wifi service out here, so…”

[...]

[He stands and sets what’s left of your phone in the sink]

“Here… I’m just gonna set this in the sink, for now. Come here, baby. Pretty please?”

[...]

[You approach him and he wraps you in his arms, drawing you flush to him]

“...God, you’re so beautiful when you tremble in my arms, baby… We should enjoy the hot shower for as long as it lasts, don’t you think? We could further enjoy ourselves in the hot tub… I just want you. I need you so badly right now, honey…”

[...Pause]

[Even if his presence isn’t as familiar, you recognize his body with great ease, and it calms you as you look into his eyes]

[In the weak moonlight, your boyfriend (?) gently examines your neck, shoulders, and nape]

“Mmh… I’m sorry, beautiful. I bit your neck and shoulders up quite a bit, this time. It’s OK, I’ve got them almost all cleaned and bandaged up…”

[Pause…]

“It’s been such a hard urge to resist… You have such beautiful skin, you know? I just love tasting you until you scream… I’m just sorry I drew blood, this time… Please don’t be too mad at me, OK?”

[He pouts a little against your nape, lips still tracing it]

“Aww, am I in the doghouse, now?”

[He eases up a little, genuinely seeming like a kind boyfriend]

“...I know you’ve been forgetting a lot lately, baby, I know. And I know that can be incredibly disorienting and scary. I don’t want to make it worse… I want to help you recover. I want to help you be able to live the life you want… I just wish you’d trust me, again…”

[Pause?]

“Why did we come out here? We were going through a rough patch, baby, and I thought coming out to the cabin for a bit would give us a chance to focus on each other.”

[...Pause?]

“We’ve been together eleven years, sweety-pie.”

[...]

“We held off on getting married because your sister kept trying to schedule her wedding on the same date and time we picked.”

[Pause!]

[He laughs]

“Oh, Jessie STAYS taking crazy pills, hmhm. I don’t know how Andre deals… He still hates me from when Jess tried coming on to me at YOUR birthday party that one year. And she mega hates me for sort of throwing her off the boat out of raw rage and confusion. But, in my defense, I had no idea that sunfish was there nor that headbutting a sunfish can be very painful!”

[...Pause <3]

[He laughs warmly]

“Hehe… That’s one of the reasons you agreed to date me, you know? I showed up for that first casual BBQ at your parent’s place, Jess was being a raging bitch to you when I got there and, me being me, the first words I said to your Dad was, ‘Nice to meet you, sir. I’m guessing that other lady making my date cry like a desperate brat is your other kid?’.”

[Pause <3]

“I wasn’t going to let your family shit talk you! Haven’t for over a decade, and I won’t start any time soon…”

[Pause]

[SFX: The winter storm to fill-in cuddling]

“...Maybe we should just have our wedding here at our cabin… Hell, maybe we should just move here. Have a garden, grow our own crops, I can hunt…”

[Pause?]

“Jobs…? Money…? Oh… Wow, you really have forgotten a lot, haven’t you…”

[He draws you close, despite your bewilderment]

[...???]

[His words hit like a slap in the face, no matter how gently he says them]

“Honey, almost everyone is dead… Don’t you remember the outbreak?”

[...]

“...About a year ago, there was an outbreak that turned people into… monsters. Focused on violently tearing apart anything they didn’t like, which normally meant more humans… No matter who they were. These creatures left the animals totally alone, but it wasn’t long before the populations dropped by nearly seventy-four percent. Emergency services fell… Everyone scattered from populated areas to avoid the monsters. Fortunately, this far North, it’s too cold for the beasties.”

[Pause…]

“...I’m not joking, honey.”

[He doesn’t need to convince you further. His voice says it all]

[...]

“...I brought you out here as soon as I could gather everything. I even went back to get our pets, you know? That’s how much I love you. The extent I would go to in order to protect the love of my life, the family that we have!”

[...]

[His tongue presses against your shoulder and you yelp]

[Pause!!]

“Sorry! You just… You taste so good…”

[...]

[He kisses and prods with his tongue, almost annoyed by the bandages as he continues the eerily nonchalant conversation]

“...You know, some of the people infected seem really normal. Sure, they’ll eat you if they’re starving, but what human wouldn’t?”

[...Pause?]

[He laughs]

“Hmm? I’m not hungry, no, but thank you for asking~”.

[...?]

[He laughs again, a bit darker]

“Infected…? Me? Sweetie… If I was, you’d be absolutely ruined from all of my bites. The worst you’ve suffered is memory loss, isn’t it?”

[...]

“Oh, you’re so cute… You’re already losing it again, aren’t you?”

[Pause…?]

“My name is Seren, honey. I’m your fiance.”

[...]

“I do love you! Very, very much, hmhm… Maybe a little too much. Maybe…”

[Pause…?]

“This is our cabin, sweetie. We’re going through a bit of a rough patch, so we came out here to get some time alone. I think it’s going quite well, don’t you?”

[You guess so… A fire crackles nearby, the bed is warm, and your fiance is seemingly obsessed with you]

[SFX: Fade out on the winter storm raging]
