[SFX: muffled classical/jazz music, or something that would play in a ballroom]

[SFX: clothes rustling]

“... Are you nervous?”

[pause]

“Well, of course. My father insisted that you attend this party, so it’s no small wonder that you’re afraid.”

“Relax. I’ll protect you.”

[pause]

“I told you, I need you for my plan. There’s no way that I would let anything bad happen to you.”

“And hey, for what it’s worth… you look nice today.”

[pause]

“Pfft, don’t look so embarrassed. We’ve been putting on this act for what, a month now? Surely you should be used to this kind of thing by now.”

[pause]

“... It’s because you never know if I’m serious or not?”

“Well… I can tell you that I am serious about you looking nice.”

[pause]

“Oh, and now you’re calling me a flirt? How rude.”

“Have you forgotten how dangerous I can be, hm?”

[pause]

“I’m just teasing you. I need you, so you won’t be harmed. If anybody tries anything… there will be hell to pay.”

[pause]

“I told you, I don’t go back on my word.”

“So just… stay by my side and try to enjoy yourself tonight, okay? Just hang off my arm, act all lovey dovey with me, and we’ll get through this just fine.”

“And I’ll keep you away from my father as well. He may be busy tending to guests, but it would be best to play it safe. He won’t even be able to speak to you as long as I’m here, so don’t leave my side.”

[pause]

“Good.”

“Now come on, take my hand. The ballroom awaits.”

“Acting mode on, dear. Things will be just fine.”

[SFX: echoing footsteps]

[SFX: large door opens]

[music is no longer muffled]

“Never been in a ballroom this big, darling?”

[pause]

“Never been in a ballroom at all?”

“So this is your first time at such a fancy party, eh…? Then I’ll be sure to show you a great time tonight.”

“We have some time before the first dance… there’s some food set out over there. Why don’t we go sample some?”

[SFX: footsteps, a small clothes rustle]

(whispering) “Of course I have to put my hand around your waist. I’m just steering you away from my approaching father.”

[pause]

(whispering) “Why yes, he was trying to approach. Stay close, I’ll get us to the other side of the room.”

(louder, hiding that he's putting on an act) “Are you looking forward to the dance?”

[pause]

“You’re unsure? Don’t worry. If you want to dance, I’ll guide you. If you would rather stay by the buffet, I’ll accompany you. I’m happy as long as you’re by my side.”

[pause]

“I save only the sweetest words for you, my dear.”

[he kisses your hand]

[pause]

“Pfft… your reaction is always adorable no matter how many times I kiss your hand.”

[pause]

“Well, what kind of man would I be if I didn’t express my affections to my darling date for the evening? I believe I’d be a rather passionless prince if that were the case.”

[pause]

“Ha! I don’t care if the title those goons give me is the ‘Bloody Prince’. For you, I’ll always be this charming.”

[pause]

(chuckling) Yes, I believe the title “Prince Charming” fits perfectly.”

“Anyways, here. Grab anything you’d like on a plate, and then I can give you a little tour around this grand mansion.”

[pause]

“Well duh. This is my family’s mansion after all. I know this place inside out.”

(Whispering) “And I know where to go in order to escape from prying eyes.”

[SFX: silverware clinking]

“Here, don’t forget these. They’re quite the delicacy, you know.”

[pause]

“If you’d like, I can order them for you every day. You wouldn’t believe the influence my family has. Even the most exclusive restaurants bend to our will!”

“How do you think I booked us that date on such short notice?”

[pause]

“Only the finest for you.”

“Now come on, there’s this one part of the mansion that I’m sure you’ll—“

[SFX: large door opens]

[music doesn’t stop yet]

“… Actually, it’s a place we need to get to right now.”

[SFX: a small beat, running footsteps before an explosion]

[SFX: lots of screaming and chaos]

“This way! Keep your head down!”

[running mixed with gunshots]

“F*ck!”

[SFX: large table falling as he pulls it over with a grunt]

“Here! Behind this table!”

[SFX: screaming, running, gunfire, more chaos]

“Ha…! Never would have expected those Bloodhound cowards to launch an attack like this… and on my father’s birthday, at that!”

“You. Stay put and keep your head down. Do you have your pocket knife?”

[SFX: knife click]

“Good. Hold that tight. If anyone tries to hurt you, stab them. Screaming for help also works, because I’ll be over in an instant.”

[pause]

“What about me? Oh, you know…”

[SFX: clothes shuffle and a gun clicks]

“Just going out there to crack some skulls open.”

[SFX: running off]

[SFX: screaming, more chaos]

[distant throughout this section]

“HEY, YOU BASTARDS!”

[SFX: gunshot]

“I gotta admit, this is a gutsy move! Too bad it’s not gonna get you anything other than a pile of dead bodies!”

[SFX: gunshot, knife sounds, etc]

“Ha! Weak! Did your boss plan this little stunt, or were you idiots dumb enough to act on your own?!”

[SFX: running towards him]

“Why don’t you just surrender now and spare us all the trouble?”

[SFX: knife stabbing into flesh]

“Eh?”

[SFX: body falls to the floor]

“… Ha…! You just stabbed that guy.”

“I didn’t see him coming up behind me… good job.”

“Oh, would you look at that, he’s still alive.”

[he brings you into a hug]

“There there… good job, my love, you did fantastic.”

“Close your eyes and cover your ears, okay?”

[SFX: gun clicks followed by a gunshot]

“Shhh, shhh… it’s alright.”

“Oh goodness, your clothes are all ripped and bloodstained now…”

“But you’re unharmed, aren’t you?”

[pause]

“Good… good.”

[pause]

“Of course my old man is fine. He wouldn’t be the don if he wasn’t capable of taking care of himself.”

“But… I think that’s enough excitement for you tonight.”

[SFX: clothes rustling]

“Here, have my jacket. The night is cold, and we should hide those uhm… rather unsightly bloodstains.”

[pause]

“HAHAHA! I guess you’re right! My jacket is even more bloody than your outfit!”

“Still, you’ll accept the gesture, right?”

[pause]

“Good. Come on then, I’ll escort you home.”

[SFX: echoing footsteps through segment]

“It’s a shame that we didn’t get to dance together… but I’d say that the battle was a dance in and of itself.”

“I’ll admit I’m impressed… I didn’t think you had the guts to peek out of your hiding place at all.”

“So I’ll commend you for that.”

[pause]

“You don’t know if I’m being sincere?”

“Pfft… maybe it’s better that way.”

“Whether we’re acting or not… what matters is that you’re entangled with me now. And I don’t let someone like you go so easily,”

[pause]

“Oh don’t look so horrified, I’m just messing with you.”

[SFX: front door opens, footsteps into the night]

“Come on. I’ll take you home.”

“It’s been a long night, my dear.”
