An average barista has a chance encounter with the masked hero they admire when they find them injured one rainy night. Although they help them and part ways, they meet again, the barista unknowing that the scientist theyāve met through a friend is the masked hero. (1650~ words)
(I simply poured my social anxiety into the speaker's character to write them LOL, this script is probably the closest to resembling my personality irl)

FADE IN
EXT. EMPTY STREET, RAINING- NIGHT.
The BARISTA walks home alone after work, their footsteps making small pattering sounds on the sidewalk from the trickling rain. Suddenly, the LISTENER appears out of nowhere and is dashing in their direction, their shoes slipping against the pavement. They crash hard into each other, both stumbling.
BARISTA
Ahh, sorry! Crap, are you okay? W-wait. Youāre that one heroā¦ that explains why thereās a lot of police cars on the other street.
They look at the listener and see they are badly injured, the side of their torso bleeding.
BARISTA
Youāre hurtā¦ here, letās get into the alley and Iāll help you sit down.
They go to the alley and sit, the barista examines their wound.
BARISTA
You can keep your mask on, I donāt mind, I know you keep your identity a secret. Crap, thatās a lot of blood.
[...]
BARISTA
Okay, the pocket on your jacket? Iāll get it for you.
(pause)
You mean this serum? Here.
The barista takes a healing serum from the listenerās pocket and hands it to them. After the listener applies it to their wound it mildly heals up, stopping the bleeding.
BARISTA
Wow, Iām glad the bleeding stopped really quickly. It doesnāt look completely healed though, the gash wraps around your entire sideā¦ are you sure youāre alright?
[...]
BARISTA
I-itās no problem at all! Here, let me help you up.
They help them stand.
BARISTA
Y-you should get going before the news reporters tail you.
[...]
The listener then continues making their escape, the barista a little sad to see them go.
BARISTA
Goodbyeā¦
TIME JUMP: A FEW DAYS LATER.
INT. A LABORATORY ROOM WITHIN THE HERO GUILDāS HEADQUARTERS- MIDDAY.
Unknowing to the listener, the barista is watching them upgrade their technologically advanced gadgets. The barista figures they should sneak out of the lab before they notice. However, they clumsily misstep and slam onto one of the laboratoryās tables, scattering equipment all over the floor.
BARISTA
AGH! Iām so sorry! I didnāt mean to- uhm, youāre hard at work- I should go!
[...]
BARISTA
Ohā¦ uhm. Well, my name is -insert name here-. Whatās yours?
[...]
BARISTA
Itāsā¦ nice to meet you. You must be a hero as well, right? I mean- you are working in the Hero Guild's Headquarters lab after all.
They let out a loud awkward and nervous laugh, then they clear their throat.
BARISTA
I uhm, Iām friends with one of your hero coworkers, Esre. They've only been part of the Guild for a few months. Since they can teleport and all they were kind of- sneaking me around to see all of this cool stuff! But uhm- they were suddenly called for a meeting and told me to stay put and ahahā¦ I wandered off. Then I saw you andā¦ well. Uhm, I really should be going. This is all confidential, right? Soā¦ it was nice meeting you.
[...]
BARISTA
H-huh? They have? Why would Esre talk about me? I mean- weāve been friends since forever butā¦ Oh, you must have seen the photo of us they put as their wallpaper on their phone, haha that must be the reason.
[...]
BARISTA
You meanā¦ you wanted to know more about me? Am I getting that right? I just- donāt want to assume or anything, I just- am a little surprised I guess and-
They take a deep breath to collect themself.
BARISTA
Sorry, I get super awkward when meeting people for the first time.
[...]
BARISTA
Thank you, Iām alright. I appreciate you being so understanding.
[...]
BARISTA
Yeah, I can stay for a bit. Could Iā¦ see what youāre working on?
They both walk to the worktable the listener was tinkering on and showcase their work.
BARISTA
Woah, this is amazing! Waitā¦ I recognize these. Do you design them for that one masked hero?!
(chuckling)
They donāt even have a proper hero name since theyāre so secretive, so everyone just calls them āMasked,ā not the most creative but, you know.
(normal)
But you design these for them?
[...]
BARISTA
That is so awesome! My favorite gadget they use would have to be the shoes they wear that give them a bit of extra swiftness and increases their jump height. I think itās clever that they strategically maintain a distance from their enemies.
(normal)
If you design these, you two must be close then.
[...]
BARISTA
(chuckling)
Well, I like them because they just seem so cool!
(normal)
I've only seen short clips of them in action, usually by people posting them on social media butā¦ They just radiate thisā¦ confident energy. They seem so collected and have a bit of a smug attitude toward their enemies. But theyāre so humble too since they flee the scene before any media or news reporters can reach them. And of course, theyāre so quick-witted andā¦ I thinkā¦ itās nice to see a hero I can somewhat relate to. Iām not a veryā¦ well, not an extroverted person, so seeing them do what they do and then vanish makes me think that even behind the mask, theyāre a little shy too.
(shyly chuckling)
I could be reading too much into it of course.
[...]
BARISTA
Oh, Iām just a regular barista. Not a hero or have any abilities at all.
(chuckling)
Iām a little boring, I suppose.
(normal)
I just go to work, then straight home, and then chill with all the lights off until I fall asleep.
(chuckling)
Very antisocial if you will.
(normal)
I may be really socially anxious, but small and short conversations with customers are pretty okay since I really just say the same things over and over. But I mostly make the drinks in the back kitchen.
[...]
BARISTA
I see, it makes sense that youāre an introvert too. I imagine youād spend most of your time creating these helpful gadgets for your masked friend. By the way, did you design their mask too?
[...]
BARISTA
You did?! Wow, itās so creative! Itās a hologram, right? How did you make it look so intricate and geometrical?
[...]
BARISTA
Yes, Iād love to see it!
The listener presses a button that opens a secret compartment within the lab table, the mask being lifted up on its display.
BARISTA
Woah, itās even cooler up close.
(chuckling, sighing)
I would love the chance to meet them, just long enough to get an autograph at least.
(reminiscing)
I mean, I managed to run into them the other night while I was walking home from work, but they had to leave and I didn't want to keep them behind. When I checked the news later, it turned out they chased down one of the most notorious gang leaders because she escaped from prison. They single handily challenged her and the group of gang members that bailed her out, keeping them distracted long enough for the police to arrive. I saw a clip of them using their staff weapon to stay mostly on the defense, focusing on dodging their attacks and waiting for them to make a mistake so they can strike.
[...]
BARISTA
(chuckling)
Uhm, actually, I donāt know what Iād say!
(normal)
I'd at least say that I admire them so much and I think their ability to predict the future is amazing. At least- thatās what Iāve heard is their ability.
[...]
BARISTA
Woah, really? I wonāt tell a soul. So basically, their predictions arenāt always correct, they see percentages and choose the options that have the highest probability of success? Thatās a lot more intense than I thought.
[...]
BARISTA
They are? Well, Iām sure Iād be an overthinker too if I had that ability. Like, what if all of their options have low percentages and theyāre still forced to make a decision? Or if they have a short time to make a decision in the first place? The more I think about itā¦ the more I admire them. They are even more quick-witted than I thought!
Their phone buzzes and they look and see that Esre messaged them.
BARISTA
(chuckling)
Ah, it looks like Esre is wondering where I wandered off to.
(normal)
I should go look for them. Thank you... for letting me see all of this.
[...]
BARISTA
Hmm? Show me what?
The listener takes off their lab coat and reveals an injury on their side.
BARISTA
Woah, how did you get hurt? That's a pretty big scar. Waitā¦ no way. Youāre the masked hero?! And I helped you in the alley the other night when you got that gash- oh my god!
(softly)
No wonder I recognized your eyesā¦
(normal)
Why are you sharing this with me? Did you use your ability to predict Iād keep your identity a secret or something?
[...]
BARISTA
You really didnāt? You trust meā¦ that much? I mean- Esre must have talked about me a good amount in general butā¦
[...]
BARISTA
(flustered)
S-sweet? N-no, youāre so kind!
(normal)
Iāll keep my word and not tell a soul.
(pause)
Can I ask you something?
[...]
BARISTA
Iām wondering, are you shy? Becauseā¦ you run away from the news cameras and seem to hate the attention.
[...]
BARISTA
(chuckling)
I see. I donāt blame you.
(normal)
I think itās even cooler how many layers you have, it makes me like you even more-
They clear their throat.
BARISTA
(flustered)
I mean- I admire you!
(normal)
Andā¦ even before I knew you were the masked hero, you seemed so focused on your work and I just kind ofā¦ got drawn in.
(flustered)
I- I canāt really explain it, sorry if it sounds weird!
[...]
BARISTA
(relieved, softly sighing)
Well, Iām glad you feel the same.
[...]
BARISTA
I- I would love that! We donāt have to do anything specific, Iād just love to see you again. Wait do you meanā¦ I just want to make sure Iām getting this rightā¦ do you mean a date?
[...]
BARISTA
Yes! I mean- of course!
They both laugh at their awkwardness.
BARISTA
I have one last question if you donāt mind.
(chuckling)
Could I still get your autograph?
FADE OUT
Thank you for reading/ considering using my work!
