INT. THE LISTENERā€™S AND PARTNERā€™S SHARED APARTMENT- NIGHT.

Coming home from a hectic day at work, the PARTNER comes through the front door into the kitchen and calls out to the LISTENER. Their voice is muffled as the listener is in the bedroom.

PARTNER

(sing-song)

Babe, Iā€™m back!

(normal)

Huh? Where are you?

They walk into the bedroom and find the listener curled up under the sheets.

PARTNER

There you are!

(groaning)

I know I said Iā€™d be back home an hour ago, but my boss held me back again.

(upset)

My coworker literally gave her a heads-up that he was going to be leaving early but she gave him a hard time for it anyways. And then I had to pick up the slack of course which was what I was prepared for anyways but she made it so much more complicated than it needed to be and...

(normal)

But Iā€™ll tell you about that later. Are you okay? Did something happen? Hang on one second.

(chuckling)

I donā€™t just want to jump into bed with you with my work clothes still on.

They scramble to change as quickly as they can and then hop into bed with them.

PARTNER

(chuckling)

Hi. I think that was my record time. Come here.

They snuggle closer together.

PARTNER

(normal)

Iā€™ll put the clothes on hangers later. You are just too adorable when youā€™re all snuggled up under the covers. What can I say? Iā€™m impatient when it comes to wanting to spend time with you. But for real, is something wrong? I know it was your day off. Donā€™t tell me you spent all day stressing over being productive about using your free time.

[...]

PARTNER

Oh, that sounds nice! So you went out and had some ā€œme time.ā€

(teasing)

I think I can guess what outfit you wore based on the jumble of clothes thrown into the closet.

(pause, realizing)

Aw no, did that annoying thing happen where you dress in a cool outfit feeling all confident but then feel super icky after like ten minutes? But by then youā€™ve already left the house so youā€™re forced to just go about your day?

[...]

PARTNER

Hey, donā€™t worry, it happens to the best of us. But. Something tells me thatā€™s not allā€¦ what did you eat today?

[...]

PARTNER

Okay, and what time was that?

[...]

PARTNER

Alright. Well, I think we both can tell that it isnā€™t enough. Were you just stressed or is itā€¦?

[...]

PARTNER

Hey, hey, itā€™s okay. It fluctuates a lot, but Iā€™m glad we were able to catch the signs. Itā€™sā€¦ kind of like when you start catching a cold. Itā€™s likeā€¦

(rhetorically)

ā€œWhy is my nose so stuffy? Itā€™s probably allergies. Why do I feel so fatigued? Maybe I didnā€™t sleep enough.ā€

(normal)

And then it sneaks up on you and wonder how you didnā€™t realize sooner. But itā€™s complicated and hard to notice like when you slip back into bad habits, like biting your nails without even realizing it. Now it makes sense why you said youā€™ve been feeling so tired lately.

(softly)

Iā€™m sure seeing your reflection from the shop windows when you were out all day didnā€™t help, especially if you already didnā€™t feel comfortable with what you were wearing.

(normal)

Have you been drinking water?

[...]

PARTNER

Alright. Do you want me to make you something?

[...]

PARTNER

(chuckling)

I donā€™t mind how late it is!

(normal)

Weā€™ve had our fair share of late-night snacks, even full-on meals! But letā€™s take it slow for now with fruit or a snack so your stomach doesnā€™t get upset. Do we have any of your comfort foods left in the kitchen?

[...]

PARTNER

Then we can make a run to the market nearby.

(chuckling)

I always feel like late-night errands feel like secret missions in a way, you know?

(normal)

I can go on my own or you can come with me, whatever you want. I just have to make a list so I donā€™t forget anything.

(chuckling)

And make sure I donā€™t leave said list on the table again.

[...]

PARTNER

(chuckling)

If I have the list on my phone then Iā€™ll completely forget it exists!

(normal)

Out of sight, out of mind.

[...]

PARTNER

(satisfied sigh)

I love you too.

(normal)

Youā€™re always there for me so I want to always be here for you too. Now I donā€™t want to get out of bed if youā€™re hugging me so tightly.

(softly)

No matter how much these annoying thoughts come and go, even when sometimes they feel like theyā€™re gone for good but then reappear, you still persistently try to push through them. Thatā€™s what I admire about you.

(pause)

These thoughts can sneak up on you, but it doesnā€™t mean you canā€™t be prepared when itā€™s here. The first step is realizing that itā€™s back, and even that is a triumph. And you arenā€™t alone. I saw this one person on TikTok talking about their experience. They are recovering and in such a better place mentally that whenever those intrusive thoughts came about, they were able to full on make fun of them. Their thoughts would be like :

(stern)

ā€œOh my god, youā€™re going to get fat.ā€

(normal)

And they would respond with

(mocking)

ā€œOh noo, Iā€™m going to get fat, ooooooh big deal.ā€

(chuckling)

They would just straight-up mock those thoughts and laugh it off!

(normal)

It definitely makes it easier to see how stupid they are when you repeat it in that tone. But of course, some days it may be harder to that do than others.

(softly)

You are so supportive of how I look, how I dress, hell, youā€™re never judgemental about anyoneā€™s body. Why should you feel unsatisfied with yours? You are an amazing person.

(normal)

If we stay in bed any longer Iā€™ll keep gushing all about you until your face is completely red!

The listener tries to get away but their partner keeps them in place.

PARTNER

(pretending to be offended, teasing)

Stop squirming! You donā€™t want me to shower the love of my life with compliments? Canā€™t I tell the most kind and understanding person, the one person I will trudge all the way to the market that is only a five-minute walk away for, that I am utterly, hopelessly in love with them?

[...]

PARTNER

(laughing)

Alright, alright. Thatā€™s enough. For now.

They kiss.

PARTNER

Let the late-night mission to the market commence!
