Anything in \asterisks and italics** isn't meant to be read aloud, it's there to either hint at the tone or provide context that might help the script make more sense.
Summary: After a long day of studying and homework, Listener decides to relax by watching a movie with Narrator. Since their studying has left them exhausted, Listener falls asleep while cuddling with Narrator, who takes the opportunity to talk about their feelings for Listener.
Word Count: Approximately 2,176 words (Not including any actions or cues left in asterisks and italics)
Writerâs Notes: I've been writing so many fantasy scripts and I love them sm, but a simple little script like this helps clear my head every once in a while so I can put a bit more thought into the longer scripts with more complicated plots. Hope you enjoy nonetheless!
Script Below:
\Narrator sits on the couch in their living room, idly scrolling through their phone, when they hear Listenerâs tired footsteps walking down the hall towards the living room. Smiling to themself, Narrator calls out to them.**
\Playful** âSounds like someoneâs done with studying. Câmere, hang out with me for a while and relax.â
\Listener flops onto the couch next to Narrator with a sigh. Narrator laughs, setting their phone down.**
âWow, all that studying really wore you out, huh?â
(Pause)
âWell, if it helps, itâs gonna pay off in the long run. It may be exhausting and frustrating and a pain in the ass for now, but itâll be worth it.â
(Pause)
âYeah, I promise.â
(Pause)
\Joking** âI mean, I promise, but only so long as spoken contracts arenât legally binding in a court of law.â
\Narrator laughs as Listener scoffs and nudges Narrator with their shoulder.**
âAw, câmon, you know Iâm just joking. Youâre working really hard and itâs all gonna pay off some day, and then youâll be able to get a good job and buy me a nice big mansion for being such a cool roommate.â
\Both laugh.**
âAlright, all jokes aside, someday, youâre gonna be happy you worked as hard as you are now, even if it is frustrating. But for tonight, youâre done dealing with all of that, you donât have to look at it again. Just put it all out of your head and watch this movie with me.â
(Pause)
âHonestly, I donât know. I just kinda turned it on and then started playing games on my phone because I have no attention span whatsoever.â
(Pause)
âHey, donât blame me! You know how I get after studying. My brain just doesn't want to work anymore, so I reward it with entertainment from the silly little glowy screens. You do the same thing!â
(Pause)
âYeah, yeah, whatever. Just watch this movie with me. Or just sit with me and pretend to watch it, whatever you want to do.â
(Pause)
âSure, do whatever you gotta do, but you better come back here to hang out with me. Donât need you trying to do any more studying tonight, you workaholic.â
\Narrator chuckles.**
âHey, while youâre up, would you mind grabbing me the ice cream from out of the freezer? I grabbed you some too, if you want it.â
(Pause)
âYeah, no problem. I thought you might want something sweet to reward yourself with. Toss them over here, would you?â
\Listener grabs the ice cream from the fridge and hands it to Narrator before beginning to walk back down the hall. After a few moments they return.**
âIs that a blanket? Are you cold?â
(Pause)
âOh, yeah, your desk is in that absolutely freezing corner of the room, isnât it? No wonder you always look so miserable after finishing your homework.â
\Playful** âYou know, if youâd have just told me that you were cold, Iâd have given you my hoodie. You didnât have to go back and grab your blanket.â
(Pause)
âPlanning to fall asleep out here then?â
(Pause)
âIâm not judging, I promise. I was actually gonna do the same thing, if you donât mind the company.â
(Pause)
âOh, true. The couch is pretty small. Hm⌠We can always cuddle, if you want? Thatâd probably help you warm up, too.â
(Pause)
âNo, Iâd be fine with it. I mean, weâve cuddled a few times, so I donât think itâs too weird.â
(Pause)
âYeah, sure. Move a bit closer, you can lay my head on my shoulder.â
\Listener scoots closer, leaning against Narrator. Narrator laughs.**
\Playful** âOh my god, even your face feels cold! Youâre just a little icicle. At this point, youâre gonna freeze if you try to eat any of that ice cream!â
(Pause)
âThen pull that blanket up here and wrap it around us. Letâs get you all warmed up.â
\Listener pulls the blanket around them and Narrator.**
âThere we go. Isnât that better? Now letâs eat some ice cream and watch this movie.â
\Thereâs a fairly long pause as both begin to eat their ice cream.**
âHey, youâre shaking. Are you sure youâre not still cold?â
(Pause)
âYou know, if you want to borrow my hoodie, that offer is still on the table.â
(Pause)
âOh come on, you know I wouldnât mind. I think weâve both accidentally switched hoodies more times than we can count and itâs never bothered me. If you want to borrow my hoodie, Iâm totally fine with it.â
(Pause)
âYes, I promise. Itâs all good.â
(Pause)
âYeah, here, let me just take it off real quick. You mind sitting up for just a second?â
(Pause)
âPerfect, thank you.â
\Narrator takes their hoodie off and hands it to Listener, who puts it on.**
âAlright, howâs that? Feeling any warmer?â
(Pause)
\Joking** âGood, Iâm glad. Iâd hate for you to miss out on your ice cream just because you were too cold to handle it. That wouldâve left me to finish it all, and though that would be a perilous task, I would have gladly endured it for you, my chilly little icicle friend.â
(Pause)
âMe? Selfish? Nonsense! I would be doing you a favor by getting rid of some of the coldness from you! If anything, it would be a burden to eat that much ice cream.â
(Pause)
âYeah, well, you look like youâre going to fall asleep face-first in your ice cream anyway. Why donât you just give it to me so you donât have to worry about that?â
(Pause)
âCâmon, just give me your ice cream, you know you want to~â
\Narrator laughs when Listener refuses.**
âUgh, fine, keep your ice cream. I guess Iâll just have to settle for eating my own and watching this movie.â
\Thereâs a few moments of silence as they turn back to the screen.**
âOh. And itâs already over. I guess we missed the entire thing.â
\Narrator chuckles.**
âHere, toss me the remote. Iâll turn on something else that we actually want to watch.â
(Pause)
âUp to you, you can choose whatever you want.â
(Pause)
âAlright, sounds good. Let me just turn it on.â
\Narrator clicks a few buttons on the remote, turning on a different show/movie.**
âThere we go. Now why donât we justâŚâ
\Looking at Listener, Narrator chuckles.**
âOh my god, are you actually asleep? You still have your spoon in your mouth!â
\Narrator sighs softly before gently nudging Listener with their shoulder.**
\Gentle** âHey. Hey. Sleepyhead, wake up for me.â
(Pause)
âHey there. You awake now?â
(Pause)
âYeah, you really fell asleep. I told you that you looked tired.â
(Pause)
âIâm not making fun of you. Not right now, anyway. Iâm just saying that if youâre tired, you should go to bed. No point in forcing yourself to stay awake just for my sake.â
(Pause)
âWell we can spend more time together tomorrow, okay? For now, just get some sleep, alright?â
(Pause)
âNo, itâs fine, you can still sleep out here. Letâs just move around a bit so itâll be more comfortable.â
(Pause)
âFirst though, let me go put the ice cream back. We donât need that melting all over the place while we sleep.â
\Listener stands up to put the ice cream away. Listener complains about the lack of warmth. Narrator laughs softly**
âNo need to complain, Iâll be right back, I promise. Then you can go back to using me as a big, snuggly pillow.â
(Pause)
âJust be patient, Iâll be back in less than a minute, alright?â
\Narrator walks to the kitchen to put the ice cream away, returning soon after.**
\Amused** âAre you already drifting off again? God, you really wore yourself out with all that studying.â
(Pause)
âOkay, so how do you want to do this? Whatâs gonna be the most comfortable for you?â
(Pause)
ââToo tired to think,â huh? Well, letâs try this. I'm gonna put a pillow over on this end of the couch and sit over here. Why donât you sit between my legs and lean back against my chest? That way you can use me as a pillow and weâll both be comfortable.â
(Pause)
âI think itâll be comfortable. And, honestly, it might be the only way weâll both be able to fit on this couch.â
(Pause)
âYeah, I wonât really be laying down exactly, but I donât mind. I donât plan on sleeping too much anyway. Iâm not tired yet, so Iâm just gonna watch TV for a bit.â
(Pause)
âThen come here. And bring the blanket, too. Itâs getting kinda cold.â
\Listener lays against Narratorâs chest, wrapping the blanket around both of them.**
âSee? Comfortable, right?â
(Pause)
\Playfully bragging** âYeah, Iâve been told Iâm very comfy. Some may even say that Iâm the comfiest pillow theyâve ever had.â
(Pause)
âAw, is someone jealous? Donât worry, Iâm your pillow first and foremost.â
\Narrator laughs.**
âCome on, you know you love my jokes. Thatâs why youâve lived with me for this long. Well, that and my incredible cuddle abilities. And the fact I buy you food. And my amazing puns. And my insanely good looks. And my smokinâ hot body. God, I just really am the full package, arenât I? Absolutely (hubby/wifey/spouse) material.â
\Listener rolls their eyes. Narrator laughs.**
âHey, you know I am! Iâm like, a ten out of ten. Marriage material for sure.â
(Pause)
\Playful** âYouâre so mean to me! And here I am, being so incredibly nice and cute and letting you sleep on me. So, so rude!â
(Pause)
âWell at least admit that Iâm a good cuddler. You gotta give me that.â
(Pause)
âHa! Iâll count that as a win. Now hurry up and go to bed because apparently you get super snarky when youâre tired.â
(Pause)
âOh, right, how could I forget? Youâre always snarky.â
(Pause)
âYeah, yeah, just shut up and go to bed.â
(Pause)
\Playful** âHey! Rude! Go to bed before I decide that I donât wanna cuddle with you anymore.â
(Pause)
âLook at that, youâre yawning! All that sass must be making you even more tired.â
(Pause)
\Quieter** âYouâre just lucky that youâre cute when you yawn.â
(Pause)
âHuh? I didnât say anything. Besides that you need to sleep, that is.â
(Pause)
âShhh. Just go to bed, you grumpy little icicle. You need to rest up.â
(Pause)
âNope, câmon. Just lay your head on my shoulder so you can drift off into dreamland.â
(Pause)
âSee, thatâs better, isnât it? So comfy~â
(Pause)
âMhm. You alright if I wrap my arms around you? That way you donât fall off the couch while you sleep.â
(Pause)
âSweet. Now just lift your arms a bit.â
\Narrator wraps their arms around Listener, both of them snuggling closer together.**
âThere. Now this is perfect. You comfortable?â
(Pause)
\Teasing**âYouâre kinda mumbling. Was that a yes?â
(Pause)
âHm. I guess Iâll take that as a yes, since youâre just snuggling into my neck at this point.â
(Pause)
âWhat, too tired to respond? I guess being sassy really did wear you out.â
\Narrator chuckles.**
âSleep well, sleepyhead.â
\Thereâs a long pause as the movie continues to play, Listener drifting off as Narrator holds them close. After a while, Narrator softly whispers into Listenerâs ear.**
\Soft, gentle (from here through the rest of the script)** âHey, you asleep yet?â
\Thereâs a pause as Narrator waits for a response. When they donât get a response, Narrator sighs softly.**
âDamn, you really were tired.â
\Narrator laughs quietly.**
âIâm kinda sad, you know. I really wanted to hang out with you tonight. Then again, this is pretty nice too. Cuddling with you is something Iâll never get tired of. Especially when youâre all relaxed like this, just leaning into me and letting me hold you close. Feeling how warm and relaxed you are against me, feeling your chest rise and fall as your breathing evens out. I canât tell you how happy it makes me.â
(Short Pause)
âYou know, I thought that you wouldâve figured out that I have a huge crush on you by now. Iâm not exactly the best at hiding my feelings, and I know I have a tendency to kinda flirty with you. I thought it was inevitable that youâd put two and two together, and that youâd realize that Iâm a bit head-over-heels for you. Kinda have been since we first started rooming together, really. Just hanging out with you always makes my day, I love talking to you.â
âAnd I love being your friend, I really do. But I still want to be more with you, yâknow? Do all that romantic stuff and make you feel loved and happy and⌠I dunno, I just want you to feel everything good. Especially when you think about me. That might be kinda selfish, but I mean, thatâs kinda part of having a crush, right? That jealousy when you call someone else cute, always trying to get your attention, trying everything I can to get you to like me more - all that kind of stuff. Like, thereâs selfless parts of it too, but I guess I just feel like itâs selfish, I guess? Because I donât wanna distract you from your work, or your school stuff. And even if you do want to date someone, I donât wanna make you feel awkward that I, your roommate, want to date you. I donât wanna make you feel guilty or anything. And I feel like, well, youâre so sweet and such a good friend that if I did tell you that I had a crush on you, youâd feel weird about it because you wouldnât want to hurt my feelings. Because that would be selfish of me, wouldnât it? Making you deal with my feelings?â
\Narrator groans, troubled.**
âBut, on the other hand, there are times that I feel like you might have feelings for me too? I dunno, it just seems like you look at me a lot sometimes, and you do a ton of the same stuff that I do for you, too. Getting me snacks, lending me your jacket, watching my favorite shows even when you hate them. Sometimes you even kinda flirt with me too. It all just feels like stuff that you wouldnât really do for just a normal friend. I mean, I think Iâm right⌠Right?â
\Narrator sighs.**
âI donât even know any more. Why is all of this so hard? One second, I think I know what we are and what our relationship is - The next, I have no idea. I just wish I knew how to ask you about it without making it weird between us. I'm just too scared of losing you.â
\Thereâs a long pause as Narrator looks down at Listener.**
âMaybe someday Iâll finally find the nerve to tell you. Or, if Iâm lucky, you might tell me. I can dream, right?â
\Narrator chuckles before sighing.**
âI guess for now, Iâll just enjoy⌠this. Whatever we have. Because honestly, I could spend the rest of my life like this and still be happy. So long as I have you, Iâd be happy. Itâd just be nice to be able to kiss you, too. Itâd be really, really nice.â
âBut at least for now, I get to hold you like this. I get to have you this close to me, sleeping against me. I can feel your heartbeat against my chest, and that alone is one of the greatest gifts I could ask for. For right now, itâs perfect. Whatever we have - itâs perfect.â
\The audio can either end here or continue with TV sounds/breathing sounds/heartbeat sounds/etc.**
