Context: At 2 AM last night, a powerful 'pulse' went through the oceans of the world. People on the surface vanished while the marine life underwent an odd evolution, becoming more humanoid and achieving sapience past their former capabilities. You were a simple Phantom Jellyfish, drifting alone before you woke up. Now that you are awake, your first encounter is with a Colossal Squid that doesn't seem to know if he wants to eat you... or simply meet you.

[Scene opens deep, deep in the ocean]

[SFX: Haunting BG music/ambiance - Ocean]

[Narrator:]

This is Quandry director Seth Ambros reporting in a new incident reported by my field agents. At present, it is only known that a ‘pulse’ rippled across the oceans worldwide at 2:00 AM last night, creating powerful tidal waves that have devastated the coasts of several major nations. Despite the loss of human and monster life, the Reapers have reported no loss of any marine life…

Reports have come in that, whatever spell or event took place, it appears to have altered some of the marine life to be more humanoid in certain ways, typically from the waist up. My love has been monitoring a rather large specimen of Carcharodon Megalodon that appears to be experiencing a sort of… sapient awakening. He can speak like a human. Think like one… though he seems to have no idea why.

Something else they noted is that our toothy friend has made no complaints of hunger or thirst. He seems content to simply explore and chat, for the time being. Transformation may have limited aggressive tendencies, but further study is needed.

…and we need to find out what happened to everyone on the surface.

[Deep, deep in the dark, you’re waking up]

[SFX: A musical sting indicating something of great importance happening/rumbling]

[You were doing… something]

[SFX: Water being displaced slightly]

[...It takes you a moment to realize you’re awake. You look down and see appendages that weren’t there, entirely alien]

[Pause!]

[SFX: Water being displaced harder from Phanty thrashing]

[You struggle for a moment, but you don’t know why. So many new things, it’s all overwhelming! You barely register that others have changed around you. Others are fleeing in a panic]

[Pause…]

[CS] “GOT YOU!”

[Before you can react, something slams into you. Tentacles seize your, well, lower tentacles and your attacker lunges for… what you want to call your neck?]

[Pause!!]

[Your lips part and you make something you had no concept of. Softer than what your attacker made]

[Pause!]

[He pauses, teeth beared over your… neck, you think the word is, yes. The creature is larger than you, which is quite upsetting]

[CS] “... Did… Did I hurt you?”

[...]

[CS] “O-Oh, I… I’m sorry… I don’t really want to eat you, I think…”

[...?]

[He swims back a little bit, looking sheepish]

[CS] “...You know, pouncing on something you intended to eat… when you don’t really feel like eating… It feels kind of dumb. Like pouncing on a rock you swore was a damned meal.”

[... <3]

[You make another sound. A laugh]

[CS] “Heh… I don’t know what that fluttery noise was you made, but I like it.”

[Pause?]

[He goes cross-eyed for a moment before shaking his head in annoyance]

[CS] “My eyes…? Guh! Why… Why did I try and look at my own eyes… You like them?”

[Pause]

[He smiles]

[CS] “Can I see yours? Is it under this funny little hat on your head?”

[Pause]

[CS] “Oh! That is your-! Same!!”

[He gently bumps his head to yours and you laugh again at his excitement]

[Pause!!]

[CS] “Incredible! Wow…”

[You look at him. He looks at you]

[CS] “...What… are you?”

[You ponder this with your new consciousness]

[Pause]

[He cocks his head to the side, marveling]

[CS] “A Phantom jelly… These… things in our… face hole… They taste odd, don’t they? Alien but… familiar.”

[Pause]

[CS] “Did… You say you find me… Beautiful?”

[Pause]

[You swim around him in the abyss. Like you, he is humanoid from the waist up, but massive tentacles stretch down further than you can see]

[Pause…]

[CS, flustered] “I-I… Like how you’re… b-big. Your tentacles! Long! L-Like mine… I hate this hole in my face.”

[...]

[Curiosity sparks in you harder than it ever had. You reach out your odd new hand and take his]

[SFX: The water shifting, if desired]

[CS] “...You have… taken my hand in your hand.”

[Pause]

[CS] “...Why?”

[Pause]

[CS] “It seemed like something to… try?”

[Pause <3]

[SFX: If desired, BG music that is soothing but haunting]

[CS] “...How strange. What was it like for you?”

[Pause]

[You’re both adrift in that darkness, holding hands]

[CS] “It sounds like it was much like mine… Except I was in the middle of battling my mortal enemy when something just… flashed. I went from something I had known my entire life to that same life now seems entirely alien. I don’t feel hungry. I attacked you on raw instinct… I feel like I am meant to be doing something important but I have no idea what.”

[Pause?]

[CS] “Oh! I never… told you what I am. Ahm…”

[Pause]

[He ponders for a moment while you drift together]

[CS] “...Colossal Squid, I think. Hmph. Compared to one of those white demons, I don’t exactly feel ‘colossal’... Do you think you could call me ‘Sal’?”

[Pause]

[He smiles and you smile]

[CS] “Thank you. Should I call you… Phanty?”

[Pause!]

[CS] “Well, I think it is a nice nickname and I’m keeping it.”

[...]

[He makes a noise from his upper body, hidden slightly by the lips hiding his murderous teeth]

[CS] “Ksss hehehe…”

[Pause?]

[CS] “I’m making this noise because I think annoying you is fun~”.

[He laughs as you gently smack one of his tentacles]

[CS] “Hey! Don’t smack one of my tentacles… You might be nearly as big as I am, but I still think I could pin you down.”

[Pause~]

[His confidence immediately implodes]

[CS, stammering] “N-Not like-! Not for… W-What?!”

[You laugh again and he scowls. It’s cute]

[CS] “You hush… You’re just lucky that it was me that tried to eat you and not a… a…”

[Pause?]

[He freezes, letting out a choked noise]

[CS] “Phanty… There, not far away…”

[You look and freeze with him. A massive shadow looms in the blackness, giant eyes glinting with a rage that stirs the urge to panic in your form]

[P-Pause]

[SW] “...Do you think I can’t see you, Beaky?!”

[CS] “I was somewhat hoping so, yes.”

[The figure surges forward and you instinctively bristle in response. Your fears are confirmed]

[CS] “...Odd. I have a name for you now. Sperm Whale?”

[The massive man snarls ferally in response]

[SW] “BE SILENT!”

[...Pause?]

[He whips around toward you, near belligerent]

[SW] “WHAT DID YOU JUST ASK ME?!”

[...]

[CS] “Yes, they did ask if they could call you ‘Wally’. Actually, that’s a good point. You want to be Wally?”

[The whale lets out another roar, ringing out dangerously loud]

[SW] “ENOUGH! I don’t have any business with you, you… jelly… human… thing! My fight is with him!”

[Pause!]

[CS] “Wait… Are you even hungry?!”

[The whale bellows again, tail thrashing angrily]

[SW] “THIS ISN’T ABOUT HUNGER! THIS IS ABOUT KEEPING ORDER, SO PUT UP YOUR STUPID SUCTION CUPS AND FIGHT ME!”

[You exchange a look with your new friend and he exchanges one in return]

[CS] “...Swim?”

[Pause.]

[CS] “Swim. GO, GO, GO!!”

[You split apart and dart away as best you can while Sal darts the other. Wally, as you’ve decided to call him, bellows again and gives chase]

[SFX: An underwater chase/Sperm Whale bellowing, if desired]

[SW] “YOU WILL NOT GET AWAY, COLOSSUS! NEVER AGAIN!!!”

[CS, distantly] “I REALLY DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU’RE SO MAD BUT SWIM, PHANTY! SWIM!!!”

[You don’t really have much else to do. You just woke up, after all]
