[Scene opens at home]

[SFX: Party music/a door opening and closing]

[Long Pause - Fill with rain kicking up outside]

[You curl up in bed while a party rages downstairs. It takes a bit, but with the rain outside, you start to wind down…]

[SFX: The door opening/closing and locking. Footsteps crossing the room and the bed creaking]

[It takes you a moment before you realize someone has cuddled up to you]

[Pause?!]

“Relax, sweetheart, it’s Leo.”

[Pause????]

[Your brother’s oldest friend throws an arm around you, half under the covers]

“Why did I crawl into bed with you? You didn’t stay hi downstairs, so I figured I’d do the polite thing and come to say hi.”

[...]

[He leans in a little and whispers a very wry:]

“Hi.”

[Pause.]

“Now leave? Aww, c’mon, sweetheart… You’ve been avoiding me for ages. Which I was kind of curious about since, you know, I’m really not fucking sure why you’re mad at me?”

[...]

“You’re not? Bullshit. You’ve barely talked to me in months.”

[Pause!]

“Yeah, I’ve got an arm around you. And it’s staying there until you actually talk to me.”

[Pause!!]

“If you’re not mad at me, then why have you started avoiding me? You don’t… You don’t get how fucking hurtful and confusing it is to have your two best friends suddenly start being weird around you, so could you try to stop squirming away for two seconds so we can talk?!”

[...]

“You could try to crawl over me, but, ah… I’m kind of a mountain to your molehill in terms of body types.”

[Pause!]

“You could shout for your bro, yeah, that is true. He’d barge right on it and probably try to kick my ass in front of everyone.”

[...]

[SFX: The covers shifting]

[At your silence, he snuggles further in under the comforter]

“That’s what I kind of thought. I figured you’d be happy to feel my arms around you again.”

[Pause…]

“Sweetie, if your brother thinks that I’m just being friends with him to try and get to you, the man’s lost it. We were friends before you were even born so if that were my reasoning, I think I deserve a medal for being the long con champion.”

[Pause]

[Leo sighs]

“I know a former friend did it to him… I’m not trying to hurt Olly, sweetheart. But he shouldn’t hold it against you, it’s not like you’re self-aware enough to know when men are ogling you.”

[Pause.]

[His tone turns playful, a touch mocking]

“Aww, Leo mean boy?”

[Pause.]

“Leo big mean asshole to poor, innocent Sweetie?”

[Pause!]

“Awww… Would some little kisses help?”

[Pause…]

“Just some little kisses on your head, Sweetie. Friends can kiss there, right?”

[You suppose so. He drops little, lingering kisses around the crown of your head]

[Rec. improv the smooches]

“Mmwah. There’s a little bit of a smile… Will you tell me why, now?”

[Pause?]

[His voice turns earnest]

“Why you started hating me all of a sudden…? We used to hang out all of the time, then we had that tiny spat at the arcade and you went all Ice Queen on me. I’m not just Olly’s best friend, you know? I’m your friend too, and I’d be a Hell of a lot more if you weren’t who you were… and if it wouldn’t hurt your brother.”

[...]

“...Please just tell me why I’ve lost one of my best friends. Then I’ll fuck off and leave you alone.”

[...]

[You take a breath and explain, as best you can]

[Long Pause - Fill w/ ambient rain from outside]

“...I was getting too mean, huh? And Olly noticed and realized what it meant…”

[Pause]

“...So, he either knows how I feel about you and is being really, eerily chill about it, or he interpreted it as me being a dick for no reason.”

[...]

[Leo sighs again]

“...I am… sorry for that, by the way. Frustrated or not, me acting that way wasn’t right of me. I just… I knew there was a problem but no one was speaking up or doing anything! Fucking drove me crazy! I just… Even if I had to drag it out, I just wanted to deal with the problem and move on…”

[Pause…]

“Don’t… apologize for being hush-hush about it. You care about your brother, and I care about my friend, and that really fucking sucks, being head over heels for his kid sibling.”

[...?]

[His voice is still nonchalant, a little indignant, but gentle]

“Yeah, I am…”

[...]

[He snorts]

“Damn, that cuss must mean I’ve further complicated things. Either by being a big idiot SEVERELY pushing his luck…”

[...]

[He pauses as you roll over and embrace him back, snuggling your face into his big ol’ pecs]

“...or you’re gonna around and embrace me back because you just realized you’re in love with me, too…?”

[Pause]

“Heh. Nice.”

[SFX: The covers shifting again]

[Pause…]

“I mean, it’s nice that you love me. Everything else about this is pretty shit…”

[...]

[Long Pause - Fill w/ ambient rain again]

“...Think we would’ve made a good couple? Theoretically?”

[...Pause]

“Well, of course, we’d drive each other crazy… but that’s part of the fun, right? You’d see me coming and think, ‘Oh God, what is this handsome asshole gonna get me into today?’, and I’d see you and think, ‘Oh God, what am I going to get this beautiful partner of mine into today’.”

[Pause <3]

[He smiles. A little]

“Oh, Olly would be miserable for a good bit, but I like to think he’d get used to it… In this theoretical world where it wouldn’t be shitty to do this…”

[...]

[Leo sighs, pulling you closer]

“...What do we do? We go back to being friends and… hope it stops fucking hurting one day. I’m gonna have to restrain myself if you find a partner, but… I’ll do it, for you.”

[Pause]

“...Love you, too, sweetheart. Go back to sleep, OK? I’ll be gone when you wake up.”

[...]

[He gives your forehead a little smooch and settles, breathing a little labored as he holds you]

“...Night, cutie.”

[...Night]
