The end of it all?

Well, the end of everything else. Not us.

The world is crumbling. Everything is literally falling apart. Something we can’t see is careening toward us with an intent to demolish, and we can’t do a thing about it.

So here we are. Spectators to the end of the world.

Got your popcorn?

Haha, yeah, me too.

And I’ve got you.

You’re really all I need - you’re everything I’d want to hold onto as we go hurtling into space, thrust out into nothing after the earth explodes.

As long as I had you to hold as we’re tossed about among the rocks and the debris of the life we once knew, then it would be ok. I’d be ok.

It’s a strange feeling knowing that we’re at a point where nothing really matters except the smallest things that matter the most.

Does it matter tomorrow if I have my job where I’ve toiled away and sweat for someone else while I can barely scrape by for myself? No.

Will it matter tomorrow all the work I’ve put in to make a name for myself if there’s no one else around to even say that name anymore? No.

All that matters is you. Your smile. Your laugh. Having you close enough to feel your chest heave as you breathe in deep and then release those contented sighs against me, me knowing that you know you’re safe.

All that matters is knowing that I’ve made you even that much happier, that much more ok, that much more calm in the midst of all we’ve had to endure.

Knowing that I could be your peace brings me fulfillment, it lets me know I’ve done something good and right.

And even if that won’t be everlasting, even if my impact has only been on you and my legacy dies when you do, then it has still all been so very worth it.

So come here.

Rest against me, and let me hold you again while we watch the world end.
