You’ve been having the same dream over and over again for the past week, nearly forgetting them each time you wake, but the part you can’t forget is seeing their face. (short ~850 words) (Inspired by a script ask post by u/crackm1lf)(yes this is a repost I really wanted to change the title it's been itching my brain for hours)

(slightly panicked)

It's you again. I know this is a dream. It's the same thing over and over, we talk a little, the location keeps changing, and before I can figure out what's going on I wake up. But now, I'm ready. Why do you keep coming here?

​

MYSTERY PERSON

No, this is my dream. I don't even know who you are.

(pause)

Hmm, you don't look like a sleep-paralysis demon, but I've never had repetitive dreams like this before.

INT. A QUIET CAFE.

​

MYSTERY PERSON

Huh? Jeez, I'll never get used to it when this happens. Well, it looks like we are at a cafe right now. Should we sit down?

​

They take a seat across one another at a table.

​

MYSTERY PERSON

This cafe looks super similar to the one near my apartment… and the drink I usually get is already on the table. So, who are you?

MYSTERY PERSON

I want to be sure you're real, or as real as you can be in a dream. I know I'm real. Just answer the question. What's your name and where are you from?

​

MYSTERY PERSON

Hmm. So we're from the same area.

​

[...]

​

MYSTERY PERSON

Oh, my name's -insert name here-. It must be some coincidence. Maybe I subconsciously remember seeing you around or… well, I don't know. But why is this happening? I tend to forget my dreams as soon as I wake up, or they're usually about work or about being stressed. But I've been getting the feeling they've been about you recently, for the past week actually. Uhm… do you happen to remember anything?

MYSTERY PERSON

(awkwardly clearing throat)

I do remember some stuff. I just- want to make sure I'm remembering the same thing as you.

MYSTERY PERSON

Why do I have to be the one to… fine. This all probably doesn't mean anything anyways. We… I think we would be on… dates?

(nervously fast, awkward)

It was too quick to actually tell. It was the typical stuff like walking along the beach or staying in and binge-watching shows. Of course, I could be interpreting it completely wrong.

MYSTERY PERSON

That's a relief at least. Anything else you remember?

MYSTERY PERSON

A-ah. We did? It's kind of foggy to me so I wanted to make sure you remembered that too just so I don't embarrass myself. I've… never kissed someone in a dream before.

MYSTERY PERSON

(chuckling)

Well, what did you want me to say? Did you just want me to start off by saying “Hey, you don’t know me but we kissed in my dream the other night.” And for the record, you were the one who kissed me.

MYSTERY PERSON

(laughing)

Yes, you were. Are you choosing to forget? How convenient. When I woke up I was so embarrassed and kept thinking about it for the rest of the day, it just felt so real. It was the only thing out of all my dreams that I remember clearly.

(pause, normal)

But, we still don’t know why this is happening. Do you have any ideas?

MYSTERY PERSON

Hmm. Well… do you believe in deja vu? Or more specifically, do you believe dreams can predict the future? I know it's hard to believe they do and if anything it's usually just a self-fulfilled prophecy. But maybe… we are supposed to meet. But maybe I’m making too big of a deal about all of this and it’s all just a coincidence or maybe neither of us is real or…

MYSTERY PERSON

Well, I'm glad to hear you don't think I'm crazy. But do you think that really means that we… that we could… oh no. You see it too, right? Everything is fading away, I think the dream is ending!

[...]

MYSTERY PERSON

But what if I don’t remember? What if we both forget all of this, I don't want to forget-

The listener pulls them into a kiss.

MYSTERY PERSON

(softly chuckling)

I think I’ll remember that. I’ll see you soon.

INT. A QUIET CAFE- MORNING.

Making their usual stop, the mystery person walks over to the barista.

MYSTERY PERSON

Good morning.

MYSTERY PERSON

I’m doing alright, just a bit tired. How are you?

MYSTERY PERSON

Yeah, I’ve been getting some weird dreams too. Can I get the-

​

[...]

​

MYSTERY PERSON

Oh wow, how did you know? I usually order the same thing from here every time but… I don’t think I’ve ever seen you working here before.

[...]

MYSTERY PERSON

Well, props to you for settling into a new area so quickly. I know moving can really take a toll on you. So, did one of your coworkers tell you what I always order or something?

MYSTERY PERSON

We do? I mean- I’m glad you brought it up first. If you'd like, we could catch up after your shift.

Alright, I’ll wait for you.

(pause, chuckling)
