Context: Dating a hero is always hard since they always come with a villain. You were lucky in getting Aeon as your cute, himbo hero and Jinn as his stoic, serious enemy. Now that Aeon has broken up with you, you figure Jinn will go with him, as it goes. But...?

[Scene opens in your bedroom, early in the morning]

[SFX: Birds chirping]

[You turn under the bliss of a warm blanket, arms around a sturdy but slender figure]

[J, whispering] “Lily…?”

[Pause]

[J] “Are you awake, sweetheart…?”

[Pause]

[He chuckles quietly and kisses the top of your head]

[J] “Alright, sleepy head. I’m going to get a shower, you sleep in. You deserve a nice break, after everything… I just hope I wasn’t too much…”

[SFX: Jinn standing, crossing the wooden floor, and shutting the bathroom door behind him]

[Pause…]

[SFX: The shower coming on]

[You finally decide to drag yourself up to get some coffee on. You need it before processing the night you just had]

[SFX: Coffee being made]

[J, muffled] “Lily? Are you up?”

[Pause!]

[J, still a little muffled] “Good, I’ll be out in a second.”

[...]

[SFX: Jinn walking into the kitchen]

[You look at one another for a moment. You expect he’s waiting for things to become awkward, but…]

[J] “...Good morning, Lily.”

[Pause]

[J] “I’d love some coffee, yes. Thank you… for that and… last night.”

[SFX: Coffee being poured]

[J] “Mmh… You always get it perfect. Coffee, breakfast, gifts… Will you join me in the reading room? I think we could both use some peace before trying to… process our new predicament.”

[Pause?]

[J] “Well, you said you set it up so Aeon would hold your hand while you read together ages ago, right? And then he said, ‘Books aren’t, like, really my thing’? You were so sad… so disappointed… like any time you tried to get him to try something you were interested in…”

[...]

[J] “I’m sorry, I’m not trying to speak ill of him… He’s a good man, but… he never took your feelings into account in a meaningful way, and you… you deserve someone that wants to consider you, always. So… can we sit and read together, for a bit? Please?”

[Pause]

[SFX: Them shuffling around together/a door opening]

[J] “Here we are… One armchair for you, and one for me, hm?”

[SFX: The armchairs indenting/quiet, calm music]

[You sit with him in the early morning, sipping your coffee and holding his hand while he does the same]

[Long Pause]

[...?]

[J] “Hm? Can you ask me for something? Of course, Lily. Anything you desire, I just want you to feel safe.”

[SFX: The Listener standing and approaching Jinn]

[Pause?]

[J] “Can you… sit in my lap?”

[He tries to contain his excitement and joy but it bubbles up, just a bit]

[J] “Of course, you can! O-Of… of course you can, Lily. Ah… apologies. You have no idea how long I’d dreamed… Last night was wonderful, but cherishing the calm like this is… everything. Come here. Let me cherish you.”

[You climb into his arms and are thrown by how right everything feels]

[SFX: Non-lewd lap sitting]

[He pulls you close, lips on your hair as he runs his knuckles down your spine]

[J] “...This feels… so right. Like… It feels as if I should be fucking infuriated that this didn’t happen sooner, but… Aeon loved you and you loved him. Even if you weren’t always on the same page, that was clear to everyone. You were his little Peace Lily… For the life of me, I can’t understand why he’d leave you… None of the villains do, not even the psychic ones!”

[Pause…]

[J] “Don’t feel guilty, my sweet. You deserve to be happy and to feel loved and desired. You aren’t betraying him by seeking my comfort and, for what it’s worth… I trust that you wouldn’t use me as a vengeance rebound.”

[...<3]

[He purrs and rumbles as you reach up to under his pointed ears and trace your fingers down his nape to his spine]

[J] ‘Mmh… Oh, your touch feels so nice… Just under my ears, down the nape… What is sweet little Lily looking for, hmm? Still trying to see my wings after all this time?”

[Pause]

[J] “...I wish I could show you, my sweet, I do. But the effect they have on humans is… not a positive one, and I never want to hurt you, if I can help it.”

[Pause…?]

[J] “What do they look like? Well, I suppose they look rather similar to-”.

[SFX: A key jiggling and the front door opening]

[Pause!]

[J] “Seems someone has come knocking… and, from the stompy, sulky footsteps, I’m going to guess Aeon decided to show up.”

[...?]

[J] “What do we tell him? The truth. C’mon. It’ll be OK.”

[A, slightly muffled] “Lily? Lily, are you home? Cause being here without you feels super weird and I don’t like it!”

[Pause!]

[A, elated] “Oh, you are home! And in your little book room thingy, from the sounds of it. Oh man! I saw the fattest pigeon on the way here. I’m talking Thanksgiving turkey-sized pigeon!”

[SFX: The door opening]

[A] “And man, he had an attitude, haha. You’d have loved… him…?”

[...]

[Aeon freezes as he sees the two of you]

[A] “Jinn…? What are you doing over here, man? Oh, wait! Did you come to help me move my stuff?”

[J] “I came here to comfort Lily after you broke up with them, A.”

[...]

[Aeon deflates a little, looking away]

[A] “I, um… I’m sorry it took me a few months to come back for my stuff, I just… I don’t know, I was destroyed after it happened… Thanks for not burning any of it.”

[Pause]

[A] “Yeah, I promise I’ll get out of your way soon… and life… I’m so sorry, I just… I don’t know what I want anymore and I don’t want you caught up in that, you know?”

[Pause]

[He deflates further]

[A] “...I know you hope I’ll be OK. You’re too nice, Lily, you know?”

[...]

[Jinn lets out a sigh, pinches the bridge of his nose, and simply states:]

[J] “We slept together.”

[Pause!]

[Aeon freezes again and, this time, you see something new in his eyes. Mostly, murderous rage]

[A] “...You put hands on my Lily…?”

[Pause!]

[J] “They’re right, Aeon. It wasn’t malicious or to spite you… You two have been broken up for months, I just found out, and I came to make sure they were holding up OK.”

[A] “And then you slept with them.”

[J] “Yes.”

[A] “...I’m going to fucking kill you.”

[Pause!]

[You get between the two of them as your ex storms over]

[A] “Move, Lily. This bastard has crossed a line and I’m going to hold him accountable for it!”

[J] “I slept with someone I LOVE! What accountability do I need to take?!”

[A] “Excuse me, you LOVE?!”

[J] “You heard me.”

[How steeled Jinn’s voice seems to make Aeon pause]

[J] “...I love them. I’ve loved them for years, now, and you never even noticed because I never once considered trying to break you two up. This person, this sweet, funny, kind, gentle, LOYAL person who gave every single day to a hero that had no idea how to treat them… They never even entertained the idea of doublecrossing you.”

[Pause]

[J] “Shh, Lily… We’re not going to hurt each other.”

[A] “...If they weren’t in the apartment, you’d be a deadman, Jinn. Meaning, the next time we’re scheduled to fight, no more playing. I’m taking your head off.”

[Pause!]

[J] “Lily! You’re giving them a panic attack, A!”

[A] “O-Oh shit, I’m sorry! Wait, hang on, you steady their breathing and I’ll get the comfy blankie!”

[SFX: Them scrambling around the apartment]

[A] “H-Here… Here, nice and snuggly. Shhh, breathe, it’s OK…”

[J] “You’re doing great… See? We just lost our cool a little bit, we’re not going to harm each other. Just hero and villain posturing, OK?”

[...?]

[J, soothing] “We promise.”

[A, uncertain] “Uh… yeah. Promise.”

[Pause]

[J & A, at the same time] “I love you, too.”

[They shoot each other a look but remain amicable… mostly]

[A] “So, um… gonna be leaving any time soon, buddy?”

[J] “If Lily wants me to, I will. This is their home.”

[A] “Can’t you at least leave until I finish collecting my stuff, bro?”

[J] “...I will take Lily out for a few hours and then bring them back. I wouldn’t feel right leaving them here after that display. Come, dear, get your coat. We’ll find something fun to do, I’m sure.”

[Jinn offers his arm and you take it, still somewhat overwhelmed as your ex looks at you both like the world’s saddest, murderous puppy]

[A] “...Fine. Just… You know how to call for me still, Lily. Do that when he hurts you.”

[He shoots one last glare at Jinn]

[A] “...because he will, eventually.”

[...]

[J] “...Come on, Lily… You deserve a nice day after this morning, so let us see what trouble we can get into, hm? And no, I won’t dignify his remarks with a response. You trust me, and that means everything. Now… what are we thinking? Bookstore?”

[SFX: Them heading out together while Aeon stews and throws his stuff into boxes]
