Context: When Sylvanius invaded your kingdom, it was a brief conflict and the war quickly went to them. As with any war, many expected Prince Zerif to choose a noble or royal for a partner to cement the union. Instead, he chose you, a simple servant girl. On the voyage back, you both would find an assassin unconscious in the ocean waters and would nurse him back to health. He'd impart a story of the mythical Black Dagger and his efforts to cure the curse, which states that the dagger must drink from the blood of a beloved. You've all been together for some time now, and the search for answers remains ahead.

[Scene opens within a royal hall in a foreign land, almost alien]

[SFX: Court chatter and soft music]

[You stand in the royal hall, newlywed to the Sylvanian King. He guides you gently on learning your royal duties]

[Z] “Here is where we will spend time hearing the complaints of our people and assisting where we can. I had your throne done in the way of your people, so you might feel a bit more at home here in Sylvanius. So you can feel safe in displaying some pride in your homeland.”

[Pause]

[He smiles warmly]

[Z] “You’re most welcome, love. You still seem as though something troubles you, however… You can speak to me honestly, love, I am your husband, now.”

[...]

[Z] “Ah. Azure missed our wedding… Yes, I am upset as well. I am sure he just got swept up in one misadventure or another and is perfectly safe. In fact-”.

[SFX: A mango being tossed]

[A] “Catch!”

[Your husband turns and catches what looks like a mango]

[Z] “Aha, someone trying to brain me with a mango. Ooh, a ripe one, as well! That must mean-!”

[Pause!]

[A man in a white mask swoops over and picks your husband up in a hug]

[A] “Zerif! Ooh, you’ve put on a few pounds, my friend! Eating better now that the wedding is over?”

[SFX: General royal court ambiance filling in the warmth of the reunion]

[Z] “Put me down! People will realize your dark, dangerous mystique is a façade if you keep acting so silly in public.”

[Pause <3]

[Azure smiles and picks you up in a hug as well]

[A] “Ahh, and here is my Sapphire. Might I have a sweet little kiss on the lips of my mask?”

[Pause…]

[Z] “Sweetheart, you do not need to look to me for permission. I know this sort of arrangement is a bit unusual, where you hail from, but our species work a different way. We get a lot of our energy from feeding off of emotions. The downside, you’ll want naps pretty often. But the benefits are having two husbands to tend to you constantly. That is something, yes?”

[Pause]

[A] “So brave, hmhm. What he’s trying to say is that I could have my tongue down your throat and no one would bat an eye. Allow me to demonstrate.”

[He does, dipping you down and pulling his mask up enough so your lips can meet. You reach up to cup his face but pause]

[Pause]

[A] “Mmh… the burns and scars on my face don’t hurt as bad now. If you wish to touch my face, I won’t complain.”

[SFX: Some sweet smooches]

[Z] “I feel oh so left out! Perhaps I should have you both publicly for the sheer audacity!”

[A] “Oh, come here, you massive drama lord.”

[They kiss for a bit before parting]

[SFX: Some more aggressive smooches, if desired]

[Z] “Come, let’s catch up in our quarters. Have you news on the Black Dagger?”

[A] “Unfortunately, no…”

[SFX: Him drawing a dagger that hums with dark magic]

[Z] “Careful with that thing, Azurael… It hurt you badly enough the first time you grasped it, and I… Our Queen does not wish to see you harmed once more.”

[...]

[Azure sighs and tucks it away]

[A] “I was the arrogant thief and assassin that stole it from Malferath’s tomb. I paid the price.”

[Pause?]

[Z] “That is true… Though the translated insignia stated that the dagger forces the punishment to the beloved of the thief…”

[A] “Well, maybe I was in love with myself, then, who knows. I certainly wasn’t expecting to find myself adrift at sea, nor was I expecting a freshly-acquired princess to dive into such dangerous waters to retrieve my body. Hmhm… Still hate me for kissing them while they were giving me mouth-to-mouth, Zeri?”

[Pause!]

[Z] “Are you serious? Why do I think I kissed you three days later?”

[A] “The alcohol, I assume?”

[Z] “And spite, thank you.”

[The three of you chuckle together as you enter the royal quarters and the doors are shut behind you]

[SFX: Heavy doors opening and closing]

[A] “Ahh, good to be home. I’m afraid I’ll have to skip supper to finish up my last contract for the month.”

[...]

[Z] “He is the royal assassin, love… Nasty but necessary business. Who is the unfortunate target this time, hm?”

[SFX: Paper rustling]

[Azure retrieves some paper from his satchel]

[A] “Here we are… Gods, I wish I could just enjoy the beautiful sapphire sands and warm waters for a touch but, alas. Not a lot of details on the target, just that she is trying to escape a lord and has information that could ruin him. The mistress, if I had to guess.”

[Pause!]

[Z, gentle] “Shh, it’s alright, love. Azure, if you can help her fake her death in exchange for that information-”.

[A] “Consider it done. Can’t have our Sapphire upset, can we. I’ll have to find someone more worthy to cut down, if that’s what you want, Zeri… The dagger has to drink…”

[SFX: Muffled dark magic in an uncomfortable silence]

[A] “... If she attacks me, I’ll have no choice, Sapphire. Do you understand?”

[Pause]

[A] “That’s my good girl, mmh. A little kiss for your forehead, just above your right eye. I remembered. I promise the moment I’m done, I’ll come home to you two, crawl under the sheets, and then annoy you both until I get to remind you both how well I contend in the sheets.”

[Pause!]

[Even though he’s masked, you can practically sense him waggling his eyebrows]

[A] “Oh, I’m still full of myself, alright. And in a few hours, you both will be full of me, too.”

[Pause!!!]

[Z] “Azure! You’re not going to just get to swagger on in after missing the wedding!”

[...]

[A] “The ship had a run-in with a Livyatan while we were crossing the Straight! I’m sorry, alright? I really am… I want to make it up to you both but, right now, I need to prepare for tonight’s little adventure. You both trust that I want to be with you both more than anything, don’t you?”

[Z, with a sigh] “Of course. I trust you, Azure.”

[Pause]

[A] “Good. Kisses for you both, mwah and mwaaah! Right, to the shadows.”

[He winks at you both and vanishes into a spell of shadow]

[SFX: More dark magic]

[...]

[Z, with another sigh] “No, I can’t stay mad at him either. Come, let’s have a bit of a rest before supper. The wedding is over and we can finally relax a bit. Besides… from the sounds of it, we’re going to need all the rest we can get before he appears under the sheets, hmhm.”

[SFX: Bed sheets shifting]

[Z] “Rest well, my love. I look forward to some quiet.”

[Pause]

[Fade Out - Time passes into the early evening/scene transitions to a path winding into the forest]

[SFX: Nighttime forest ambiance]

[Perspective shift to Azure]

[The assassin perches silently in a tree, thinking to himself]

[A] So good to be home. Zeri is mad, though… Nngh, I knew I should have left earlier, but no, I had to be dramatic… How am I going to smooth things over with him and Sapphire…?

[SFX: Hurried footsteps]

[A] Worry about that later, target is in sight. Alright, you accursed, horrid dagger… You’ll be fed soon enough. Let’s try this the diplomatic way first…

[Pause]

[SFX: A rush of air to denote how quickly he’s moved]

[A] “Ah! Shhh… it’s alright, my dear… Listen carefully to me, alright? I don’t want to have to cut you down here, but someone has requested you die… So, I suggest you allow me to escort you somewhere safely in exchange for the information they seem so convinced you are hoarding.”

[...]

[SFX: A blade slashing]

[The mysterious woman grabs a blade from her coat and attempts to swing at Azure. He ducks back easily and sighs]

[A] “Swinging a blade on an assassin… Brave, but foolish. Forgive me, my Sapphire, I tried.”

[SFX: A brief scuffle and a stabbing/blood splattering]

[A] “And there! Nnh… I’m sorry, my lady… I was given my orders. I will try and track the Lord that ordered this so he may suffer the same fate. Shh… just lie down and rest. Death will come soon with that blow to your heart.”

[...?]

[He freezes for a moment]

[A] “Your voice… No. No!”

[SFX: The hood of your coat being yanked back]

[A] “Sapphire!!”
